I am relieved to read the rider only had minor injuries. You scoot riders be careful out there, summer is only starting. Highway 1 is not a good place to stretch your riding legs and skills after not riding for the winter. Vehicle driver’s please watch for motorcycles when you are on the road. Safety has to work both ways.

Agreed. When I drive that stretch of Hi 1 I worry about bicyclists even more since (1) they are traveling slow, (2) they must ride in the vehicle lane as there is no shoulder, and (3) one comes upon bicyclists quite quickly as there is little sight distance due to the curves. During the summer season I have recommended that bicyclists stay on 101 to Laytonville and then use Branscomb Rd to the coast. It is now completed paved and has far less vehicle traffic.

Branscomb Road would be pretty scenery along the way! I am glad to hear it is paved.

Plus the curves do not seem to be as sharp and the uphill portions seem to be less than on Hi 1. On Hi 1, one climbs immediately out of Leggett, then down to the coast, but then up again after Rockport, all the while worrying about cars, trucks and RVs.
