Lightning Has Struck the Shasta-Trinity National Forest Over 100 Times

Information from U.S. Forest Service – Shasta-Trinity National Forest:

Northern California is currently experiencing a significant lightning event, which began on May 13 and is continuing into this evening.

As of this afternoon, the Shasta-Trinity National Forest has received over 100 strikes.

As of 7pm on May 15, nine fires have been confirmed, the largest of which is 2 acres. Resources have responded, or are currently responding, to these fires.

More fires may be detected and updates will be posted here and at https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7486/.

No closures or evacuations are in place.

South Fork Management Unit (Hayfork)
Grassy Fire 1/10 acre

Trinity River Management Unit (Big Bar, Weaverville)
Waldorf Fire 1/4 acre
Logan Fire 1/10 acre
North Fire 1/10 acre
Linton Fire 1 acre
Corral Fire 1/4 acre

Shasta Lake District (Shasta Lake)
Brock Fire 1/10 acre
Yellow Jacket Fire 1/10 acre

Shasta McCloud Management Unit (Mt. Shasta)
Deer Fire 2 acres

So…if PG&E put lightning rods up all through the mountains and collected all that energy, would that be considered renewable?

Appeals to personal responsibility cannot fix systemic problems like climate change or poor forest management. That being said, put out your campfires and wait until at least December to commit arson, please!
