45 New Cases Reported Today; County Requests 1,170 Vaccine Doses for Next Week

Humboldt COunty COVID-19 InformationPress release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Forty-five new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Humboldt County today, the highest single-day report since January 28. One previously reported antigen-positive case was confirmed through PCR testing and has been reclassified as such to avoid duplication of cases. The total number of county residents who have tested positive now stands at 4,046.

Local health officials said that given the amount of virus circulating in the community, county residents should avoid large gatherings and get tested if they are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status. They emphasized that getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent serious illness from the virus.

County residents age 18 and older can receive the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at a clinic scheduled Friday at the Samoa Women’s Club. The facility is located at 115 Rideout Ave., and clinic hours are scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome, but making an appointment in advance is encouraged. Sign up at MyTurn.ca.gov.

With thousands of vaccine doses on hand, Humboldt County Public Health will not request any Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine this week from the State of California. Public Health will ask for an additional 1,170 Pfizer doses in preparation for the expansion of vaccination to 12- to 15-year-olds.

Both the Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices have authorized the Pfizer vaccine for anyone age 12 and up. The Western States Scientific Review Workgroup endorsed the move, and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended that “all eligible children, teens, family and household members be vaccinated as soon as possible.”

Public Health is planning to hold three Pfizer vaccination clinics over the next three weeks. Clinic hours and location will be posted to My Turn as soon as they’re finalized. County residents age 12 and older who would like to be vaccinated sooner can go to vaccines.gov to check availability of the Pfizer vaccine at local pharmacies.

The CDC today released “Interim Public Health Recommendations for Fully Vaccinated Individuals.” The new guidance states, in part, that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask in any setting, except “where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.” This exception applies to California, because, as of now, the state requires masks to be worn in crowded outdoor events and in all indoor public settings. Changes to these state requirements will be shared as they are updated.

There’s really no justification for Humboldt county to still be in the “Orange” level. Even the county map at the New York Times has us listed as “High Risk”.

Despite today’s news from the CDC that vaccinated folks can go without masks in most situations, I think I’m going to keep putting one on every time I set foot indoors anywhere but my house or a friend’s house that I know has everyone vaccinated.

I do wish the JIC would be more forthcoming about where the infections are coming from — it’s hard to make good decisions about where to go and where to avoid when they won’t even give hints.

So now it’s okay to ignore the experts and science? I kinda had a feeling this was gonna happen.

Not ignoring the science or the experts, unlike many of your previous comments seem to do.

I am saying the local risk level is much higher than the country as a whole and those conditions should supersede the general recommendations the CDC released.

Tim, where does ones responsibility end when it comes to other people’s choices?

Cigarette smoking is responsible for millions of deaths.

Alcohol related injury to self and others.

Where does it end?

I always ignore the science, and it is your right to take extra precautions with your health and safety, but it would seem, by the definition of words, that you are choosing to ignore CDC guidelines at this point? If that isn’t ignoring the expert and science what is? It’s a two way street bud, not just when the flow is going the way you perfer.

This is the one key point that many folks who haven’t been trained in science seem to miss — science is nuanced. While an organization like the CDC, which is responsible for messaging at the national level, often simplify and generalize science-based decisions because most folks can’t grasp the nuances. Not because people are dumb but because they lack the background to understand it sufficiently.

So the CDC can make a science-based generalization to apply to the country as a whole which should then be modified as local conditions change. That’s not ignoring the science, that’s recognizing the nuances. And most experts would likely agree.

When looking at the NY Times map of all the counties in the U.S. Humboldt, Del Norte and Siskiyou along with Josephine, Jackson and Klamath in Oregon all all shaded “high risk”. This area is in the same situation as most of Michigan. Most of the rest of California is in better shape.

Just more people that have been masking got covid, please continue to mask , otherwise numbers would be higher. But since we have no data on unmasked areas then we’re not sure it is helping, but we think its helping so take our word for it and follow the lack of data and mask . We have never in the history of mankind stopped the spread of any flu , but the mask is going to stop this one, and don’t forget about the vaccine, it protects the young that had zero chance of dying from the virus but doesn’t stop the elderly from dying from covid, but we THINK it will stop the spread of covid. That is alot of assuming lol. Peace out , what advice does ole Joe have lately, he is starting to be a lack of entertainment. Cnn and msnbs , all probably feeling the ratings going down.

I’m not even being sarcastic here but it would most likely help vaccination numbers if they had a map with close proximity of infections, I bet that area would get vaccinated more quickly, than people just thinking it can’t touch them.

With our past few weeks of being outside “the norm”, I’m wondering if we’re the tail end of the California spike or the leading edge into the next? Considering the nightmare situation in other parts of the world I’m fearing the latter. Regarding the latest CDC guidance … it is apparent that the country in not in a “one size fits all” situation

If you have been following regional trends, we are more aligned in case patterns with the Northwest, rather than the rest of California. Washington and Oregon have been experiencing a surge in cases over the last month or so while the large population areas of California are experiencing a decline. Like so many things we are lumped in with the rest of California, but maybe we are more similar to Washington/Oregons situation? Why is this the case? Is it Weather?, Geography?, demographics?, interstate travel? Hard to say…We are truly at the southern tip of the Northwest.

This is from a very positive, pro-pharma piece posted on statnews.com. Regarding how Moderna came to work on vaccines;

“Moderna had to pivot. If repeated doses of mRNA were too toxic to test in human beings, the company would have to rely on something that takes only one or two injections to show an effect. Gradually, biotech’s self-proclaimed disruptor became a vaccines company”

Why would anyone trust these people? These corporations do not serve the higher good, they serve the bottom line. Corporatism does not create cures, it creates customers. Stay aware and take responsibility for your well being.

That is true for anti vaxxers toob after all they too get just as suck as any other group but they have, because of their biases, rely on those who market their “natural cures” to them. Alternate media does not mean honest media. “He is one of many anti-vaccine advocates with a business on the side. They promote false claims about the dangers vaccines pose, while selling treatments, supplementals or other services. Their potential market is the roughly 20% of Americans say they do not want to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to recent polling.”

No one knows. I suspect you think whatever is convenient for your agenda but the reality is, no one knows. “Many outbreaks occurred in homeless shelters and unsheltered people have been infected as well. One study showed the mortality rate of homeless people in New York was 75% higher than the city’s rate. It’s just that an accounting of these deaths, like homeless people themselves, seems to have slipped through the cracks.” https://www.statnews.com/2021/03/11/the-uncounted-people-who-are-homeless-are-invisible-victims-of-covid-19/

But certainly lockdowns and regulations have been harder on that population than others, which are bad enough.

“Over the past year, they have tallied 22 deaths, a sevenfold increase.
“Only two of the deaths are suspected to be from COVID-19. But all occurred during the collapse of the safety net that in normal times addresses the complex mix of afflictions—trauma, medical conditions, addiction—that accompany homelessness, and worsened during the profound isolation of the pandemic.” https://time.com/5950759/homeless-deaths-rise-covid-19-west-virginia/

What agenda am I perpetuating? Seems like projection on your end. All I’m questioning is why the homeless, who have largely less sanitary practices in their lives haven’t been dropping like flies during this pandemic. Their lack of masks and hand washing, combined with sharing cigarettes and needles don’t seem to be affecting their health in a negative way. Does that jive with you? Maybe the recommendations we’ve been given aren’t as effective as advertised. I’m just questioning the narrative. The interpretation is up to the individual to decide.

Think for yourself. Question authority.

And you DO know the role those foundations play in this mess?

Also, Auntie, maybe drop the overly-used “anti-vaxxer” shite? Many who recognize the dangers of the jab are not and it is not a vaccine. See?

Auntie Ovine

Ah such bland words for deliberately misleading people. “Would you trust them?” Indeed would you trust any anti vaxxer to speak the truth? For while Moderna tested and tested, not even trying products on humans until proven safe in animal studies, not releasing anything until the safety could be validated, anti vaxxers just continuously try to sell the same faulty information no matter how many times it proves dangerous.

“Every strand of mRNA is made up of four molecular building blocks called nucleosides. But in its altered, synthetic form, one of those building blocks, like a misaligned wheel on a car, was throwing everything off by signaling the immune system. So Karikó and Weissman simply subbed it out for a slightly tweaked version, creating a hybrid mRNA that could sneak its way into cells without alerting the body’s defenses. ”

Until they changed their methods, Moderna was, at the time this little snipped out anti vaxxer diversion, having problems with immune reactions. So they dropped the mRNA medicines for the moment to focus, on vaccines (as the article put it focussing on” a field long considered a loss-leader by the drug industry) and used the Kariko work around as a way to avoid the immune reactions. In other words they did not just reduce the mRNA problem by reducing the doses, they created a safe way to use mRNA for vaccines not needing to be “dosed over and over.”

mRNA is a new Biotech jab. Now why do I think there was a lot of pressure to be the first to get to market?
How can you possibly know what the affects could be two or ten years from now?
Maybe it will be fine, or maybe pharma should be a little more humble about playing God.
Time will tell.

Auntie Ovine

Because there has to be some reliance on science somewhere. mRNA vaccines seem to offer less possibility of long lasting effects because they are not the old killed virus vaccines. Any manufacturing error could lead to the vaccine that relies on attenuated or killed virus to actually cause illness. With a reliable manufacturer, that hardly ever happens but it is possible. A mRNA vaccine can never replicate the whole virus so it simply can’t happen.

The only downside is that when a virus vector is used, it exposes the immune system to all sorts of invading proteins, not just one like mRNA creates. So it is possible I suppose for an infective virus to mutate to eliminate that one protein and thereby escape the immune response. But the selected protein was likely chosen for the chance that would not happen.

If a person is worried that somehow, despite reassurance it doesn’t, that the bit of mRNA will somehow incorporate into a person’s DNA and then cause long term issues, that is also true of being infected with the virus itself. Only with many more proteins available to cause trouble along with the viruses’s natural ability to make that happen.

No. Every which way I look at it, mRNA vaccines seem safer and still effective. Less worrisome by far than getting infected by the live virus itself.

Are you hearing that Fauci is now being investigated for funding EcoHealth Alliance who then received an exemption to fund WuHan in gain of function research.

Everyday more info. to be considered comes out.
Seems Fauci hasn’t been very forthcoming with the whole story.

President of EcoHealth Alliance Peter Daszak spoke about his work at the nonprofit to protect the world from the emergence of new diseases and predict pandemics. Since 2014, Daszak’s organization has received millions of dollars of funding from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). It has funneled to the Wuhan Lab to research bat coronaviruses.

Since the airing of this video, the NIH has cut funding to Daszak.
