Alcohol Being Investigated as Possible Cause of Fatal Accident Yesterday in Trinity County

On Monday May 10, 2021, at approximately 0000 hours, an adult male was driving 2006 Honda S2000 northbound on State Route 3 south of Rourke Ranch Road, in Trinity County. Irais Hernandez-Mateo was driving a 2017 Toyota 4Runner southbound on SR-3 south of Rourke Ranch Road, approaching the Honda.
For reasons yet to be determined, the driver of the Honda allowed the vehicle to cross over the double yellow lines, across the southbound lane, and directly into the path of the Toyota. The front of the Toyota collided with the driver’s side of the Honda. After the collision, the Honda came to rest in the northbound and southbound traffic lanes of SR-3. The Toyota came to rest in the southbound traffic lane and right shoulder of State Route 3.
Trinity County Life Support, the Hayfork Volunteer Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene. The male driver of the Honda was determined to be deceased immediately upon the arrival of Fire and Emergency Medical personnel.
The occupants of the Toyota were transported by Trinity County Life Support and subsequently flown by helicopter to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol is being investigated as a possible cause of this collision.

The 5 year old was in the Toyota not the Honda. The driver of the Honda was DUI and paid dearly
