JOB TITLE: Mendocino Adventure Ropes Course Coordinator

REPORTS TO: Mendocino Adventure Ropes Course Board 

LOCATION: This position is based in Leggett, CA additional travel within or near Mendocino County is possible and occasionally beyond.

COMPENSATION: Bi-annual payment of $2,500.00 which is equitable to $20/Hr at 20 Hours/Week.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Vehicle and valid driver’s license. Ability to lift 25 lbs.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: By June 15, 2021. Start date no earlier than July 1, 2021.

ORGANIZATIONAL VISION

The mission of the Mendocino Adventure Ropes Course is to cultivate life skills, self-confidence, teamwork and mindfulness that weave collaborative relationships between Community Members, particularly youth, and the community at large for the benefit of all. 

Our program goals include:

  • Strengthen life skills, cooperation, team work, mindfulness and self confidence in youth and others
  • Connect community members with meaningful livelihoods and culturally relevant work in their families and community
  • Regenerate local ecology and economy
  • Strengthen cross-cultural relationship to place
  • Build capacity for teachers and others to play a central role in community stewardship and diversity

MARC is a fiscally sponsored project of the Leggett Valley Unified School District.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Assistant is a detail-oriented organizational thinker responsible for providing administrative support for MARC’s  education and employment programs. Working closely with the LVUSD, and the MARC Board and the community, will help build robust adventure course fora dynamic and quickly growing organization.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

The Program Coordinator might spend a morning organizing logistics for an upcoming

course. The afternoon could be spent developing a customized curriculum for a group coming soon, or holding a at a training session for staff, servicing equipment or meeting and planning marketing outreach.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work under the Supervision of the Mendocino Adventure Ropes Course (MARC) Board of Directors.
  2. Act as a liaison between the Mendocino Adventure Ropes Course, the Leggett Valley Unified School District and the MARC Board of Directors by attending all MARC board meetings and maintaining communication with the Leggett Valley Unified School District.
  3. Provide supervision of the MARC in cooperation with the MARC Board of Directors including the hiring of staff, establishment of goals, supervision of safety, programming, hiring and budget.
  4. Provide direction and supervision for all aspects of the MARC operation:
      • Physical plant and program equipment: Manage construction, inspection, maintenance, and supervision of all equipment and facilities.
      • Program: Create mission and philosophy in conjunction with the Board of Directors, select target populations and facilitator program development.
      • Staff: Direct responsibility for the hiring, training, supervision and qualification of all staff members for program operation.
      • Marketing: Conduct all aspects of program promotion including design of materials, marketing strategy and presentation in conjunction with the Board of Directors.
      • Safety Management: Structure guidelines for the safe operation of all programs, compile all guidelines in a safety and operation manual, arrange for a peer review of the program by other outdoor professionals, couple accurate records and documentation to maintain the high level of safety, investigate all accidents and close calls for the improvement of the program. Create a risk management plan that the staff and Board of Directors are trained and follow.
      • Budget and Accounting: Design the program budget and monitor cash movement in cooperation with the MARC account.
      • Logistics: Provide and supervise all logistical support of the program including office operations and programming support.
  5. Instruct groups and maintain status as an instructor, keeping job descriptions current for programming areas.
  6. Maintain all relevant certifications, licenses and memberships as necessary to conduct and supervise all programming areas.
  7. Attend workshops, training programs and conferences to maintain awareness of current standards in the industry.
  8. Provide opportunities for team development and personal growth for members of the MARC Board of Directors.
  9. Manage the MARC to the benefit of the program and the betterment of the programs that work with and support the Mendocino County Youth.

  • social and emotional health
