Eureka TikTok star’s Nike critique earns millions of views
In the latest episode of Humboldt Last Week at 9:40
Have you heard about this 19-year-old from Eureka who’s a world-famous TikTok star and an up-and-coming musician? Louie Lingard has over 840,000 followers on TikTok and one of his Spotify singles has over 20,000 streams.
Lingard was recently interviewed by the popular media company Complex regarding his TikTok criticisms of Nike’s new Go FlyEase shoes. He believes the shoes which were designed to tighten as you slip them on are scantily available directly from Nike which has led to massive markups by resellers –– a frustration for disabled buyers such as himself interested in the shoes for their hands-free upsides.
One share of the Tik Tok video on Twitter has around 6 million views.
The talented musician and social commentator, a Eureka High School graduate in 2019, has a rare genetic form of arthrogryposis which has challenged his grip and posture, impacted his overall bone growth, and caused clubbed feet as well as scoliosis. He has worked hard to become an active and ultra-confident young man and basketball player.
“It’s crazy having an audience while living in a small town,” Lingard told Humboldt Last Week. “I’m just glad I’m able to get my message out there and reach people… I used to think I wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything unless I moved away from Humboldt but obviously I was wrong. Currently, I’m working on getting my YouTube channel started up, as well as trying to get this concept album recorded that I’ve been trying to work on since COVID first started.”
Lingard also has a clothing brand designed by his friend Lucas Balsley.
The story begins at 9:40.
Episode description:
A local TikTok personality is a rising star, more affordable housing in Eureka, mall woes, a bowling alley for sale, a governor-approved extradition, tunnels with likely illicit histories, a harmful COVID variant plus red-tier numbers, a mental health milestone for local kids, more alleged hazing at HSU, frybread, crime updates, and so much more.

Hi! Just a bit of housekeeping for Humboldt Last Week.
According to Nielson in 2017, half of all US homes are podcast fans. Podcasts are great for a walk, commute, chore, lounging session, etc. and I’m honored many community members have found the program valuable, subscribing via outlets like Apple and Spotify. Before the program was created in 2016, Humboldt County had no weekly audio news summary.
You can read supportive comments about the program here: https://www.humboldtlastweek.com/p/what-people-are-saying.html

I’m a father and a partner and I work full time and it’s been a challenging year for our family but I still create Humboldt Last Week with limited spare time. Humboldt County has so many talented reporters and I love vocalizing the news for the people.
Episode transcriptions would be a dream if I had the time and money. There are people out there who prefer the written word over audio, and vice versa, or a mix. In the meantime, every episode of Humboldt Last Week is downloadable and there are websites and programs that will transcribe audio files.
I’m thankful that local businesses choose to reach locals with Humboldt Last Week while encouraging an informed community. Most programs like this one lucky enough to have built larger audiences aren’t doing away with advertisers. I’ve backed out of national advertising possibilities because I only want to support local businesses. I love Humboldt. I keep the local messages concise and I’m picky with my partners.
It is my personal choice not to respond to certain anonymous posters on this thread. I don’t trust their intent and I own that as my own thing. One person in this forum can throw shade anonymously under several account names. To me, there’s no honor or personal accountability in that.

Great response.
♥
Right on Myles. I enjoy the podcasts.
Does anyone who reads these comments have the tech knowledge to facilitate transcript creation? If you do, maybe help a brother out.
I don’t know much about it, but maybe Dragon speech recognition could help.
♥
I continue to enjoy listening to HLW weekly. I actually save the episodes and periodically reflect on a year’s-worth while working outside, etc…
Much appreciation to you, Myles and best wishes to you and your family! Keep on keeping on…
♥ Thanks, NRG!
I agree, Myles,
Thanks for the episode transcription about Louie Lingard.
It was very interesting.
As far as your podcast being very well received, and that people enjoy it, rest assured, there is no doubt about that.
Trying to be convincing that you have a significant and sufficient number of enthusiastic followers isn’t really necessary, it’s already quite clear.
Relax, your many listeners and readers already know you have many listeners and readers, pay no attention to the rest by addressing them, that group is busy paying attention to something else. They are not even in your audience, why address them, and neglect your audience?
Here I am nitpicking again, sorry.
I got a bad habit of that. I’ll own that.
Just trying to provide some positive reinforcement.
Really, your doing an outstanding job.
And podcasts aren’t my thing.
See , you don’t need to convince people like me that lots of people enjoy your podcast.
Maybe that’s not who you’re trying to convince….
Moving on…
Way to apply the polish, by the way, your response was very respectful, and we’ll, refined. Way to up your game.
It hasn’t gone without notice.
Keep up the good work, and to your continued success…
Hopefully that clarifies my intent a little, there may be no hope for my honor.
As far as accountability, I’m not trying to win a popularity contest, that would be a waste of time.
♥
Well, everyone is selling something…
I respect your effort, but the material seems a bit less than interesting…
Podcasts don’t do a thing for me, but I don’t like YouTube either, and I quit watching TV in the 90’s, because it was so bad…
It is something to package something as entertainment, quite something else to make it contain worthwhile content. An item about sneakers, is not something I would want to be exposed to…
In the 60’s they talked about the “generation gap”… My kids work in software, under Khosrowshahi and Moskowicz, respectively, I use Apple for hardware, Spotify daily, etc etc… I am not un-hip, and, I find your product comparatively lacking…
Good luck, and, Namaste, Myles! Hope you can continue in these hard times, with the family and all… Be well.
Your bias is showing. I too am not interested in podcasts, yet don’t deny that many people listen to them a lot. I don’t know much about sneakers, but I do know they are being collected and hoarded like bitcoins. Just because I am not familiar with these things doesn’t mean they are not pertinent to many people. You admit you don’t like podcasts, or you tube, and no TV since the 90’s. That is great for you, my kids were raised without television, but that does not mean it is not relevant, and as you said ‘an item about sneakers is not something I would want to be exposed too’ so I assume you didn’t bother to even listen. Hope my assumption was wrong.
Well, if you find it amusing, there’s a large volume of trash available…
The internet changed everything. Slack jawed folk everywhere, immersed in watching “videos”, have killed decent filmmaking, advertising buries all media, and, like I said before, everyone is selling something!
COVID is engaged in changing everything, too…
3 million more people retired than were expected to retire, due to “COVID fatigue” presumably, and, there are worthwhile stories to be told about the changes that everyone else is going through, at the same time… Whether or not local businesses will pay Myles to do stories with some import, remains to be seen, but I do congratulate Mr Cochrane on his business successes, even if the time invested exceeds the monetization or the audience-perceived value of the content…
Myles takes time from his busy life, his family, his occupation, to produce this local bit of fluff… I suppose he culled this amazing video about sneakers, during his own time decompressing by watching “TicTok”, which is another one of these internet trash sites which currently fascinates young people…
Honestly, I haven’t time to explain further, and previously stated that I don’t care for this feature or it’s format.
I’m looking at Myle’s project like a hobby, or a work of local art, and in the future, I will avoid it as having little content and practically no value. Myle’s defense and apology for his work indicates his own opinions…
I previously stated, also, that I don’t consume Myles’ work.
Namaste, Guest, be well…
Seriously?
You didn’t listen, correct?
(I can’t because of connectivity)
And you didn’t find the simple write up of Louie Lingard interesting?
The young man is getting covered for his reasonable take on this shoe and his health.
That’s great!
Podcasts have become the new radio and your being irrational at the fact that people’s intake of information changes through generations.
You grew up on radio I assume.
I’m sure your elders called much of what you used and knew as normal as “trash” too.
The fact is there are tons of options for podcasts, and many are valuable and informative beyond your recognition.
Subscribed on YouTube. Funny stuff.
