[UPDATE 4:34 p.m.] Driver Stuck in Smoking Vehicle After Crash

Extrication is needed for a driver who is conscious but stuck in a SUV which is smoking after a crash on School Road near Salmon Avenue in McKinleyville, according to scanner traffic. The vehicle is off the road west of the roundabout and over the bank. But, according to Caltrans QuickMap, traffic is barely crawling through the area.

An ambulance has been requested to respond Code 3 (with lights and siren.)

UPDATE 4:32 p.m.: The Incident Commander reports that the incident is closer to School and Windsor than first reported. “One patient has been extricated,” the IC told dispatch.

UPDATE 4:34 p.m.: According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, the vehicle is a Jeep Liberty with major front end damage about 20 feet down a steep embankment.
