Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On May 6, 2021, deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) served multiple search warrants to investigate illegal cannabis cultivation in the Rancho Sequoia and Dobbyn Creek areas. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services Environmental Health – HazMat Unit and Humboldt County Code Enforcement assisted in the service of the warrants.

Six parcels were investigated during the service of the warrants. The parcels did not possess the required county permit and state license to cultivate cannabis commercially.

During the service of the warrant in the Dobbyn Creek area, deputies eradicated approximately 1,200 growing cannabis plants. Deputies seized and destroyed over 171.5 pounds of cannabis bud, approximately 123 pounds of processed cannabis and approximately 454 pounds of cannabis shake.

Assisting agencies found the following violations:

  • Five water diversion violations (up to $8,000 fine per day, per violation), three of which were substantial instances of water diversion.
  • Two water pollution violations (up to $20,000 fine per day, per violation)

During the service of the warrants in the Rancho Sequoia area, deputies eradicated approximately 4,334 growing cannabis plants.

Assisting agencies found five environmental violations including water diversion violations (up to $8,000 fine per day, per violation) and depositing trash in or near a waterway violations (up to $20,000 fine per day, per violation).

Additional violations with civil fines are expected to be filed by the assisting agencies.

No arrests were made during the service of the warrant. The case will be forwarded to the DA’s Office for review.

Anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

I was wondering the same. Maybe it’s sloped to one side?

Definitely would cut down on seepage of any contaminants, although all I could see was Cal-Mag.

I’d LOVE to know if it cut down on bugs. Not sure if it would, or if it would only concentrate the bad bugs.

Those don’t look like greenhouses that were built by locals.

Square = more room for vertical growth on edge space. Probably not worried about precipitation due to summer months. Should be worried about the horrible felling of the conifer and other trees that contribute to the sediment problems that continue to plague and kill our juvenile salmon….. also fak tha MET.

Visions of the Greenrush danced in their heads…

Seriously, I wonder about growers still in this mind set. Do they not read and keep up with the county news outlets? Do they not know about the satellite surveillance? Are these grows that started the permit process and lagged too far behind ? That’s a lot of money to gamble after the county said they’re coming after grows like these this year…

1) Every year for decades they say they are “going to get everybody” and for decades they barely scratched the surface. Same bullshit every year.
2)There have been zero abatements this year. Anyways- abatements only fine the land, not the players. And it’s still to be seen if those will hold up in the long run in court.
3)Many many grows started the permit process as only a means to delay enforcement and blow out a few more years. The county took their money and protected them so…yeah
4) The money that’s being gambled is only a fraction of what got made last year. And now look- they still have time to replant for this year!

It’s still a lot of money to lose. Yeah, they say that they’re going to clean house and a lot of growers get away with their greenrush style grows but it is nothing compared to 5 years ago. They ARE slowly chipping away at it. I can tell by the traffic going by my place that there’s a lot less growing going on and people have toned it down , quit or moved on to Oregon. I’m not in a subdivision, I’m on a main back road in sohum. Grow traffic has been reduced by at least 75% compared to 5 years ago. So yeah, there’s still some greenrush cowboys still operating but they are standing out more and more on satellite.

There is a lot of money to gamble every year but 50 or so busts a year out of 10,000 isn’t anything . I think kym has an article where it lists all the enforcement numbers and it’s really nothing compared to what is out there.

Satellites only capture an image from one direction and only during the day. I am thankful the county uses the technology cause as an outdoor non-legal grower my chances of getting caught are reduced significantly to be honest. Now back in the day when they flew choppers I was concerned but more so cause of the heavily armed goons in the chopper.

Whirlybirds, lol, popped in my head as I wrote this reminds me of some good times.

I doubt you have 5 huge greenhouses or are growing hundreds in a grid pattern.

Zero greenhouses, actually never built one. Dig a hole add some some blood, bone, fancy poop, water and mix well. Cover and let sit. Uncover then mix and cover again. Uncover and mix again then cover. Uncover and mix again then seed with clover. Hole is ready for your plant just add water til harvest. There is way more just given the 10,000ft view.

Don’t use anything with fish in it like fish bone it attracts critters and sometimes bear. Trespassers are the best, lol, it’s a hill joke :-p

Lol… Yeah thanks.. Just ran into that issue with some freshly amended super soil. Flipped 200gallon pots like nothing. Darn bear(still love em) decided to enjoy a seafood buffet.. Little trickier in the hills. Gotta rethink that recipe and probaly go in ground.

Make a tea if you wanna use fish but you only need to feed it every 4 to 6 weeks and best to do when flowering in my opinion. If you do use a fish emulsion than use kelp meal in your soil. No fish no kelp again just my opinion. I don’t use any unless it’s a tea in september. I am more a guano, alfalfa, blood, bone/shell and a good worm casting soil base.

That’s the cover. Black trash bag and let the sun do the work. Clover is for making sure water is good and early bug detector. Smear Vaseline on a post it note and loop around inner branch for further bug identification. Spiders are your friends.

You’re saying that the composting of the nutrients plus the black plastic cover kills the termites that are in the ground?

No just the top few inches its not sterile but it kills a majority of bad things and helps build bacteria for the soil. Why ya gotta keep turning it hence the uncover and mix several times in the previous statement. I kinda got a secret solution for bugs that is water based I stumbled upon while extracting oil. After a drunkin discussion about bitters with a mixologist, lol I created a few litres. Bugs hate it and it has zero effect on the plant or buds.

Why no mention of that diesel tank showing in one picture. Set up on logs (presumably illegally harvested) and not in containment… you would think the large diesel tank would be mentioned.

Does the DA charge these people? No arrests made…

They gotta check to see if they are funding any friends, family or BOS before they arrest I assume.

I have a question that I was hoping someone could help me out with. I’ve noticed in multiple pictures from various raids that the “greenhouses” are covered in a translucent plastic. My question is how do the police know that marijuana is being grown if you can’t see it? How do they get the warrants if they don’t know it’s marijuana? This seems to be very common. I’d appreciate any input.

The assumption is that we live in a democracy and the constitution was written to protect we the people from government. Not the case. Welcome to the war on drugs where you learn none of that constitution shit applies if ya grow the ganja! At least nowadays they ain’t Ramboing on your property like in the movie Platoon repelling down and buttstocking 15 year old kids and their mothers anymore. They just show up with paperwork and a chipper.

Pretty sure a large greenhouse without a permit ( no matter what’s in it) is illegal. I think the threshold is a10 ft greenhouse.
Anyone?

Ag land allows for non-permanent structures without permits I.e. hoop houses. But you have to be zoned ag. Cold frame permanent greenhouses you still need a permit for on ag land. Costs $180.

Pond would have certainly held up till it rained next winter…. no spillway = pond failure. 😳
