28 New Cases Reported Today (Highest Single Day Since Feb. 11); Vaccine Uptake Dwindles

Covid VaccinePress release from Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Twenty-eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Humboldt County today, bringing the total number of county residents who have tested positive for the virus to 3,659. This is the highest single-day case count since Feb. 11.

Local vaccine uptake has dropped significantly since April 9 when Humboldt County opened eligibility to residents 16 and older, leaving thousands of appointment vacancies at clinics this week. This sluggish rate of uptake has prompted health officials to provide walk-in appointments today through Sunday and urge those who haven’t yet been vaccinated to take this first step.

Walk-ins are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, although booking an appointment is the best way to ensure a vaccine is available when you want it and to avoid wasting vaccine. Clinics are held at the Arcata Community Center, located at 321 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Pkwy., with walk-in hours from 6 to 7 p.m. today through Sunday. These availabilities are for those seeking their first or second dose. Spanish and English speakers are available at every clinic.

Appointments for Moderna and Pfizer clinics this week can be made at MyTurn.ca.gov. The state portal has been updated to allow those in more remote areas of the county to view clinics on My Turn, as the search radius has been increased to 200 miles.

All county residents age 16 and older can register, although 16- and 17-year-olds can sign up only for the Pfizer vaccine. Minors must have proof of age and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The following clinics and vaccines are available by appointment and for walk-ins. Visit MyTurn.ca.gov for specific appointment dates and times.

  • Today — Moderna (18 and older)
  • Thursday — Pfizer (16 and older)
  • Friday — Moderna (18 and older)
  • Saturday — Pfizer (16 and older)
  • Sunday — Moderna and Pfizer (16 and older)

Lindsey Mendez, Family Nurse Practitioner and COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force Member said, “With supply outpacing demand for the first time since this vaccine rollout, we’re urging folks to schedule an appointment now.”

Nearly Half of Eligible Residents Have Received at Least One Dose

Nearly 50% of county residents 16 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That means almost half of Humboldt County’s eligible population has some protection against the virus.

All local vaccination data has been updated on the Humboldt County Data Dashboard. Highlights include:

  • 84,833 vaccine doses have been administered in the county.
  • Approximately 80% of county residents age 75 and older have received at least one dose and are partially protected. 67% of county residents age 75 and older are fully vaccinated.
  • Of Humboldt County’s estimated 112,369 residents eligible to receive the vaccine, 32,813 have been fully vaccinated. That represents 24% of the total population and 29% of residents who are 16 and older and currently are eligible for vaccination.

Here’s a classic from all us rationalists last year:

“It’s just the flu, bro.”

Two studies made headlines this week about the uselessness of masks. I cannot post links because they are always deleted. You can find these easily. Stanford did one. The other was from last summer. Masks hurt and even kill. There’s a video from a doctor online where he loses his cool over a kid who always wore a mask, terrified of the flu, and got a bacterial lung infection. Tyrannical social media has deleted the video by now. If you follow the SCIENCE he is an MD after all. Masks are terrible. Yet I still walk down the street in the open air breathing normally and people move out of my way, while wearing masks – alone – in the open. Sick stuff.

Stop being SHEEPLE! If we all refused to wear masks and stood up to the Medical Industrial Complex and the fascists in state and local government we’re get out liberty and our country back.

And yes, all these stats are manipulated – or fake. Local websites shill for Big Pharma. Fear porn must pay the bills for local media. So sad. And a fraud on the public.

You cite 2 studies for your fear porn comment. The Stanford one has been debunked as being linked to Stanford and you cite another random one “ from last summer”. Is that all you’ve got to back up your silly anti-mask comment? You even managed to call everyone Sheeple, that’ll really convince everyone to stop wearing their masks, right? No one cares if you don’t want to wear a mask, do what the hell you want, why do you need every one else to go maskless with you? Most people aren’t afraid of a piece of cloth.

Nonsense. A requirement to wear a face mask by all outside may be an exaggeration but it is universally applied and not at all equivalent to a requirement that is designed to inflict control, misery and abuse on women and no one else.

Counter acting fearmongering by trying to sell fear pointing in another direction is still fear mongering. Maybe in 20 years this pandemic might be put into a more rational perspective that recognizes it was not cause for all the exaggerated regulations but those exaggerations hat people poke fun at are going to include ranting against face masks too.

Maybe in 20 years people will have evolved back to growing their own food, raisinG their own livestock, and 90% percent of the empty calorie food will be TAXED OUT OF AFFORDABILITY, because of the HIGH COST to SOCIETY.

A mask does little to prevent your poor food choices

So, you tell me to wear my mask to save lives, and I’ll respond with stop overeating, stop smoking, stop drinking, and put your fat ass on a restricted calorie diet, to save lives…of course.

It’s a radical concept in human responsibility.

Right, call me. I’d pick a burka over a mask, at least it’s been a tried and true accoutrement for thousands of years, and except for traffic accidents (due to lack of visibity with all that on), it’s fared pretty well.

From what I’m hearing the public is loosing faith in vaccinations as it appears the CDC has no faith in the vaccinations. Let’s see if we get vaccinated with a vaccine that works we don’t need masks we don’t need to social distance and we should have no restrictions on gathering. None of this is the case. The CDC through Fauci etc. Is demonstrating they have no faith in the vaccines.

I think the point is that about 75% of population needs to be vaccinated before we will “be back to normal.” That’s the main reason to keep up safe routines. It’s not perfect, but it’s what we have. I’d much rather wear a mask than get flu, virus, etc.

A little research will show the potential of mask-wearing as being detrimental to your immune system. It would indicate that you are being lied to.

If you are healthy, there should be no flu, virus, etc.

In a year or two, people so suspicious of vaccines will have changed their death watch timeframe to 10 or 20 years. So as never to have to admit how wrong they got it. Does anyone who is so fearful ever gain perspective or do they just move on to a new variation of the same old fear?

So because you personally feel safe, like in not working in a hospital, flying across country on commercial planes or going concerts, you insist that everyone who does should go along with you? Then you will not mind if regulations limits the unvaccinated from participating in those things because you weren’t going to do those things anyway.

Though not left or right-leaning myself, it is fascinating and at the same time extremely disappointing to watch so many willing to go along with this medical/mind coup.

Some even demand those of us asking good questions should be locked up or “limited from participating”.

This will soon blowup in every obese person’s face.

Willful neglect of your health choices should not infringe on my right to live healthy.

He or she feels safe doing everything, so why shouldn’t he or she be allowed. If you don’t feel safe, shelter up. Looks like about 60 percent of the nation accepts the fact that no one lives forever , mother nature has her own green policy. 2 or 3 million dead out of 8 billion isn’t much of a pandemic, wheres the 4 percent, which is hardly a pandemic. The old and frail got vaccinated and now fatalities are still dropping like a rock and cases have remained the same for over 2 months, maybe even up a tick. Now moving along ,now that our elders have got their flu shot.

you say it’s the people who are against being guinea pigs with the experimental mRNA shot that are fearful but it seems to me it’s the opposite.. the people who are running out and getting the jab even though it’s not been fda aproved, properly trialed or even proven effective and who have no idea what the long term side effects might be are the ones chocked full of fear.. fear instilled by the media.. fear of a disease that kills an extremely low percentage of people infected.. but you are so scared of covid you are willing to let them inject you with whatever just so you can feel safe and protected.. it’s quite obvious that you are the fearful ones.

It wouldn’t be different if the FDA approved it. After all the same people who call the vaccines dangerous experiments also say that vaccines that have been around for almost a century cause autism even when the FDA says that’s not true, that the FDA is involved in a conspiracy to use vaccines to exterminate the excess population through gene manipulation or that the pandemic is the same as the flu which the FDA also says is not true. It is not hard to realize when they argue that FDA’s lack of full formal approval is important, it is disingenuous as they certainly disagree with the FDA on everything else. Besides the FDA has approved some vaccines for emergency approval which is a suitable idea in an emergency rather than wait until disease has made masses of people sick.

50% of humboldt county is unvaccinated right now and it looks like not many more are in a hurry to get their jab. Do you actually think 50% of HumCo is antivax? ..no way! Most of the people who are against the covid jab are not against all vaccines.. all the other vaccines went through trials and were developed over years where long term effects could be observed.. not rushed out onto the public in less than a year.. not to mention the fact that this is not a typical vaccine, like all others before it, but mRNA technology and don’t forget about all the people (at least a thousand they’re admitting to) who have died within days of getting their jab. It doesn’t seem like a good risk to me, a healthy person who isn’t scared of covid. Yes, there are those that don’t trust the govt or media (with good reason) and think they have ulterior motives.. but to try to say everyone who doesn’t want the covid jab doesn’t want it for only this reason is ridiculous.

Actually, it’s likely the failure of the California website that has lead to a drop in users. So far the mRNA vaccines have less complications than older technology vaccines after years of trials. Maybe it’s just luck but it’s more likely a result of greater knowledge. And no vaccine has even put any creature in cage. This one either.

maybe you think there are “less complications than older technology vaccines” because our corporate and govt controlled media doesn’t want you to know about them.. and don’t forget, we won’t really know about long term effects and complications for several years because these covid mRNA vaccines have not been tested/trialed long enough.. and fyi, the vaccine isn’t putting you in a cage.. you are doing it to yourself with the govt and media’s help.

Circular reasoning- anyone who dies from SARS-COV-2 must be unhealthy before they got sick otherwise they wouldn’t have got sick in the first place. Don’t look at any examples of people who seemed healthy who got sick and suffered because then you would be forced to notice that the anti-virus shield you think protects you – as the superior person you think you are- is full of holes. And that it ignores the inhumanity of not caring a whit for those who are old, already sick or disabled because you know, just know, that being sick is a character flaw that people self inflict on themselves.

Covid hospitalizes and kills mostly obese and overweight people who are unhealthy.. that’s why most people who die from covid have 3 or more other health conditions also caused by being overweight (like heart disease, diabetes etc.) that contribute to their death as much or more than the covid. Being overweight and esp obese is almost always self-inflicted.. it’s a choice what you put into your body and how you care for yourself. There are consequences for all choices and actions.. good and bad.

Covid deaths are 10 times higher in countries where at least 50% of their population is overweight or obese.

recent study by cdc showed 50% of covid hospitalizations were obese and another 28% overweight..

Actually, in the report cited by the linked article as opposed to the headline, obesity is cited as a 10% increase in hospitialization for covid. Even if the sensationalized headline were true, 60% of all Americans are overweight or obese. So that would mean a 18% point increase in hospitalization beyond their demographic. Which is far from meaning being thin means safety. Beside being underweight also increased chances of death by 20%.

And obesity did not increase death. Old age did –

“Again surprisingly, BMI was not a significant risk factor for mortality—except for those with a BMI below the normal range, who had a 19 percent greater risk of dying when infected with COVID-19.

Older age was the largest apparent mortality risk factor. For example, being over 90 was associated with 155 percent greater risk, compared to being 65–70, and even being 81–85 brought a 76 percent increase in mortality risk compared to the youngest age bracket of 65-70 years.” https://www.jhsph.edu/news/news-releases/2021/study-identifies-risk-factors-for-covid-19-infection-hospitalization-and-mortality-among-us-nursing-home-residents.html

As the facile aphorism says- Eat right, Exercise, Die Anyway. You are not safe in the way you think you are.

According to you antimaskers masks are useless. Why do they even make masks , that’s the million dollar question, right?? Masks have no function whatsoever and mask wearing is a sign of governmental obedience. Masks were developed to make people look stupid, there is virtually no reason to wear one. They constantly quote debunked, so called science because they “believe” it sounds right. They don’t research real advisement from real scientists. Many of these debunked theories are the product of Russia (and others) trying to sow division here to increase the spread of covid 19.
Many followers of the former president don’t even realize that he and his family were vaccinated in secret before he left the white house. Even in his level of denial, he knows the vaccines work. These vaccines were in development way before the pandemic for a covid type virus and were able to fine tune to the covid 19 strain.

Very disappointed about the misleading headline considering the article yesterday about the geofencing blocking of people trying to sign up for the shot. Of course it has dwindled when people are not allowed to sign up.
Like I commented on that article,

A great question would be For how long did the geofencing take place?

Ted went from calling it a hoax to thinking he was dying..be careful .

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ted-nugent-tests-positive-covid-19/

“I thought I was dying,” Nugent says in a Facebook live video posted Monday. “I literally could hardly crawl out of bed the last few days,” adding, “So I was officially tested positive for COVID-19 today.”
In a video shot at his Michigan ranch, the “Cat Scratch Fever” singer repeatedly uses racist slurs to refer to COVID-19 and reiterates his previous stance that he wouldn’t be getting the vaccine because he claims wrongly that “nobody knows what’s in it.”
Nugent, a supporter of ex-President Trump, previously called the pandemic a scam and has railed against public health restrictions. He has repeated a narrative pushed by conservative media .

I’m still confused about all this. But this is one nurse’s routine.

“9 Ways To Prevent Carrying COVID-19 Home
1. Leave All Non-essential Items, Like Tote Bags, at Home

According to the World Health Organization, there are two main transmission routes for COVID-19: respiratory and contact.

“Droplets may land on surfaces where the virus could remain viable; thus, the immediate environment of an infected individual can serve as a source of transmission (contact transmission),” the website states.

Bring only what you need to the workplace, such as ID, money, & food, to decrease the risk of transmitting the virus when you return home.

2. Take a Shower as Soon as You Get Home From a Shift

Just as aggressive hand washing prevents transmission via touch, scrubbing in a hot shower will also help get the virus off of your body. Many nurses, especially those working in high-risk areas, should shower immediately upon returning home.

3. If You Have the Option of Taking a Shower at Work, Consider it

When asked about how she has changed her routine after a 12-hour shift, Mellisa B, an ICU nurse and mom of two young kids stated, “I’ve always left my shoes at work, but now I shower at work too.”

4. Disinfect Phones, Pens, Credit Cards, or Anything Else That You Brought to Work

Current evidence suggests that novel coronavirus may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials.

The CDC recommends cleaning visibly dirty surfaces with a detergent soap and water before disinfection to prevent transmission of COVID-19 in community settings.

Here are the guidelines for disinfection, from the CDC website:

“For disinfection, diluted household bleach solutions, alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol, and most common EPA-registered household disinfectants should be effective.

Diluted household bleach solutions can be used if appropriate for the surface. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application and proper ventilation. Check to ensure the product is not past its expiration date. Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleanser. Unexpired household bleach will be effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted.”

5. Bring a Change of Clothes and Shoes to work, Change Before Leaving Work or Before Entering Your Home

Kendyl, an RN with two children aged 4 and 9, has her own ritual for preventing the spread of COVID-19 to her family.

She wears scrubs to work and then changes into new scrubs for her shift — then, at the end of her shift, changes back into her original scrubs to leave the hospital. When she gets home, she immediately changes again before entering the house, throws those scrubs into the washing machine, and immediately showers in hot water.

“I do still fear that even my efforts may not be enough because of how easily this virus is spread. But I will continue to do my best, and do whatever I can to protect my family, myself, and my patients,” Kendyl states.

6. Leave Work Shoes in a Designated Place (Ideally the Car or Garage)

Change your shoes before you get into the car and put them in a bag in the trunk or garage. Clean them weekly with a strong disinfectant.”

This site doesn’t allow all links from everyone, but it’s entitled “Nurses Share 9-Tips To Decontaminate After Working Amid COVID-19,” from nurse.org.

I like your link better, never trust. One thing is for sure, anyone following either method would most likely be less exposed to other’s germs. Don’t know if this would prevent covid, but it may act as a deterrent against mugging, 6 feet.
