[UPDATE 10:05 a.m.: Warning! Graphic Photo Added] Multiple People Injured in Early Morning Stabbing in Arcata
At approximately 1:20 a.m., law enforcement received multiple 911 calls in front of the Arcata Theater Lounge in the 1000 block of G Street in Arcata for one male unresponsive and bleeding.
Then, just a few minutes later, at approximately 1:24 a.m., a first responder, we believe an Arcata Police Officer, said over the scanner, “We still have an active subject stabbing people…Send ambulances Code 3.” (Code 3 means with all haste, lights and siren on.)
About 1:28 a.m., we believe the same officer said over the scanner that they were performing CPR on one patient. and requested a total of three ambulances for three different stabbing victims.
“[There is one] male with a slash wound from basically ear to ear,” one emergency personnel reported over the scanner.
A white male adult wearing “a burgundy sweater” was believed to have done the stabbings per a transmission over the radio, but, we don’t believe from our understanding of the early scanner traffic that the suspect was taken into custody.
We’ve requested more information from the Arcata Police Department.
Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.

This wasn’t communists or L.A. gangsters, I saw everything, and you failed to mention it being white on white crime. I’ll let the U.S. Bank Security Cams tell the story cause I’m not a reporter. Being as I’d spoken to the MFr who was outside sticking folks just earlier, he’s a local, so you should check yourself.
The cops were incompetent! I had to establish their crime scene and the location of the murder weapon before it was groundscored, or kicked in the sewer.
The exaggeration of CPR couldn’t have been aired on Baywatch. The kid was gone already when I told the lady running the venue to take the 1st aid kit to the young man bleeding out in front of the ATL door. Wouldn’t that have been a better picture? Community comes together, stabilizes a stab VICTIM, in front of the door?! Band-aid can’t breathe for you.
Secondly, Mr. Officer, you don’t perform CPR like that on a STAB VICTIMS, as I recall the fact, none of that dramatic attention was given to Josiah as he died down the street from Mad River Hospital, the cops at the party said, “Not to touch him, his body is a crime scene” before he even breathed his last.
I hope the victims recover and aren’t made bankrupt by their medical bills from this terrible situation.

I apologize, ma’am. But I realize the amount of misinformation that the masses will just eat up and it’s sickening. LCO posted that all the victims knew each other, which isn’t true either. Each victim knew the dj that was performing. And as was mentioned before, this was transients or LA gangsters, it was a local boy, which is why he got away. So until the bank tapes are reviewed, the stories should cease.

I think it is strange that everytime someone gets shot they want to band guns, and now they want to band knives and have back ground checks to carry or own one. When someone kills somebody with a club of some kind what then ? Unless you start taking these people off the streets and putting them where they can’t hurt anybody you will see more of these types of attacks. Hire MORE cops, build more prisons and jails, bring back death penalty, Maybe even a nut house or two. The idea is to put people who hurt people somewhere where they can’t Kill, Rape, sell drugs, child/human traffic, or control their anger. Then we need to teach our kids how to loose, and hard work equals the right to play, throw away the rule everyone gets to play even if you are no good, miss practices, or just plain goof off, teach them how to except consequences of bad decisions and mistakes, No free rides you have to work to earn what you want in life.

Grow some compassion for your fellow humans. This is the community you live in. You are not removed. Most here are probably connected within a few people to someone who was there or nearby. I wish the victims a speedy recovery.
These guys were fighting, not running away. Who knows if they were the victims or criminal or what. But feel free to wish them well without a clue as to what happened. It’s all good when you are removed from the community by lack of knowledge.

What is it with Arcata and stabbings? Seriously, there has been a lot of stabbings over the last couple of years in Arcata, does someone have an idea what the number actually is? I am guessing maybe around 8-10 in last 5 years?
If this had been guns instead of knives we would be having demonstrations all over Arcata, Eureka, and who knows where else.
But nothing, nope, not one demonstration, protest, or stopping of traffic on 101 at the courthouse!!

Hate to say it but, something needs to be done, as whatever is causing this, the conditions, are most likely going to get worse than better, throughout the country, not just Arcata. Maybe more patrols would help, social workers acting as a type of police ranger for the plaza.
The deceased was a very dear friend and colleague of my boyfriends.. He was full of so much love and we are devastated by his loss..
The photo on this is so wrong to have featured on the front page!! Does this news paper/writer/editor have any respect for the family of the victims? Or are you simply dehumanized all together?? Were fully supporting the family with taking action to have this matter addressed legally!!
First, I am so sorry for the loss of this young man. Although we hid his features when we posted this, the full photo is very moving. The tenderness of the hands cupping his face as he was being medically tended to seemed precious to us. And, at the time, we thought the hand belonged to medical personnel. We hoped among other thoughts that it might give comfort to family to know someone was being tender with their loved one while he was being treated. When this photo was published, we did not know anyone was deceased.
However, we knew that this photo was not for everyone. So we did not post it on the front page but rather within the article with a warning at the top so that those who would be disturbed could avoid the image.
To me and to other family members and friends of other victims, gathering information is how we process tragedy. I understand that isn’t true of everyone but those who wish to avoid this image can do so and those who need it to understand the enormity of what happened, have it.
I am the one tenderly holding my boyfriend in this photo. My head is in the picture. I experienced this moment and I can’t get it out of my head. Keeping this photo up when we have asked you to remove it is disrespectful and disgusting. If you had been there in that moment you would know that no single person should witness that. You would have heard me begging him to breathe, and then you likely wouldn’t see it as so “precious”.
And as for his friends and family, they know what his last moments were like because I have informed them, I promise you seeing a photo does not help them.
Sarah, I am sorry for your pain and hate that something I do hurts you. I don’t really know what to say. I know that photos of car accidents, crime scenes, and other tragedies can be hard for some victims to see. However, some of the most powerful photos I’ve ever seen–the little Vietnamese girl covered in napalm, the photos from the Two Towers, and from the Boston Marathon–all must have been difficult for the victims’ families to view. To me, I’m the kind of person who would want to know every detail, other victims have told me they appreciated the images I posted, and still others hated them. I do the best I can to provide what information I can for those who want it, and to provide warning that the images are there for those who don’t want to see them.
I think you’d better figure out a better content warning system. Hide the photo behind a click-able curtain or something (or even better remove it)… Because this is insensitive and fucked up. I don’t think it’s helpful to traumatize a community because you think it’s good to see awful things. There is already plenty of gore online. To write that the photo’s tenderness inspired you… And to ignore the voice of a person in it, is immensely disturbing to me. This is a traumatic, fucked up moment already burned into the brains of those who lived it, not an art piece for you to make a statement about. This is not necessary and broke my heart to read your reply to a request to remove it by the very person who moved you in it. You’re not covering the twin towers, or war. This is a small town where people who see this will know them. Sure….. Your headline has a warning, but I really don’t think that’s enough or that this should be shared like that at all. Other things cause mental health issues without being homeless…drugs for instance or even too much alcohol. I don’t know the reasons or circumstances here but either way it’s sad that people need to use violence of any kind to settle a problem. Now we have one dead and two injured.
