Humboldt County Donates Over a 1000 ‘Extra’ Vaccines to SF

COVID Vaccine coronavirusIn a story surprising to everyone in Humboldt County not yet vaccinated but wanting the ‘jab,’ the San Francisco Chronicle put out a story at 7:08 p.m. Saturday reporting that a Bay Area hospital “rescued” more than a thousand doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines that our rural area couldn’t use.

According to the story,

[I]n Humboldt County, public health officials had scheduled a mass vaccination clinic every day of the week, expecting to administer about 1,000 shots a day, based on previous interest. But suddenly appointments dropped off, for reasons they don’t yet understand, and the county found itself with a flat of thawed-out vaccine it couldn’t use.

The County has been trying to get people to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine–recently without as much success as they would like. On April 8, Humboldt County Family Nurse Practitioner Lindsey Mendez told the media,

Right now, we have a lot of vaccine – over a thousand doses – and these slots have not been filled, and we would encourage anybody who has the eligibility from the state, like if you’re over the age of 50 or if you are 16 to 64 with high risk health conditions or any of the other categories like healthcare workers, agricultural workers who are eligible, to sign up on MyTurn and get an appointment.

Or call the JIC and find out more information at 441-5000 about how you might be eligible to get this vaccine.

However, several Humboldt County residents told us that they had signed up but were never contacted to get the vaccine. Chantal Campbell, a 35-year-old worker at a food pantry, told us, “I signed up for my turn and still have not been contacted.”

A resident of Southern Humboldt who wished to remain anonymous wrote us that…

I tried to sign up for my Turn multiple times and it kept saying “no appointments available in your area” and wouldn’t let me on the list. I finally called RRHC, Laytonville (Long Valley Health Center), and Garberville Hospital with their COVID extensions… no response. So I called RRHC and hit #1 for the medical line. I got a person then, and was given an appointment. It seems like this system is holding a lot of people back from getting vaccinations… Especially rural people who have to drive 1+ hour(s) to town.

Here’s a screenshot of several that have posted on Facebook in response to a request from this reporter late last night asking if people had signed up but not received any notification from My Turn.

My Turn not notifying

Southern Trinity Area Rescue (STAR) volunteer and Humboldt County resident Dottie Simmons believes that the new My Turn vaccine signup system which rolled out statewide this month may have caused glitches in the previously relatively smoothly running local system. “I am signed up to volunteer at vaccination clinics and went to the orientation on the 5th,” she told us. “[T]hey had little to show us that day as they had just found out they had to switch to the new system only the previous week and the change had to be made [in a few days].”

She pointed out that the local public health system team “had the expanded eligibility, new protocols, new software all at the same time!…[W]hat could go wrong?”

To her, it seemed like the change was too much at once. Simmons explained, “[O]ur public health folks are working as hard as they can before this change and had to adapt on the fly.”

On Friday, HumCo COVID, the Facebook page from the Humboldt County COVID Joint Information Center posted, “Humboldt County will receive 7,440 doses of COVID-19 vaccine for next week, including 3,600 Moderna and 3,840 of Pfizer. There will be first- and second-dose clinics available for both.” With any luck, the County won’t have to pass these doses off to another area.

Note: at 12:38 p.m., the experiences of a Southern Humboldt resident with signing up for the vaccine was added to the article.

Conspiracy theory?

Meanwhile:

“The U.S. has thrown more than $6 trillion at the coronavirus crisis. That number could grow.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/04/15/coronavirus-economy-6-trillion/

“2,646,695. People who died from hunger” (last 4.5 months)

https://www.theworldcounts.com/challenges/people-and-poverty/hunger-and-obesity/how-many-people-die-from-hunger-each-year/story

That number goes up 1 every 5 seconds.

Talk about “caring”.

I think anyone should be able to show up and get a shot. It’s strange how some lives are more important than others think about that if things get bad in the world some people will have priority to live and die . I understand to prioritized process but it’s just trippy to think about.

Maybe no one wants to co sign for a new world order. They have drug this out as long as they could. People don’t want to risk adverse long term health complications from an untested, and a void if responsibility group creating these vaccines. J AND J has been killing people knowingly for the last 50 plus years with its products…… Now they want to escape legal liability to make billions…… Get your head out of your asses people. They are controlling you, and you are letting them!

Check your spam folder folks… I bet at least half of those people either got the email and it’s in their spam folder, or they made a typo when typing in their email address.

If you enjoy experimental, non-approved gene therapy move to San Francisco and wait in line. Have fun with the side effects, sheeple.

The only notice I received was for the jab at College of the Redwoods. Nothing for So Hum. I’m still waiting. Have an empty spam folder.

If you want the vaccine be sure to sign up to receive it. I tried three times before I received a notice for my appointment. Just keep checking and checking. If you get an appointment please go. Failure to be there may result in you starting at the back of the line again. Sign up through your doctor, CVS or Walgreen’s for your chance. Good luck to those who have been trying, and getting no place.

I couldn’t get MyTurn to work the first several times I tried it. The site seems very unreliable. At first (for a couple weeks) it would say I wasn’t eligible even though I was in open categories, and then it simply didn’t work – I’d go through the whole process, get a verification code, enter it in the box, and then the complete registration button simply did nothing. Then later it worked, when I did nothing at all differently.

Suggestion, if anyone from public health happens to look at these comments: Put up some highway construction message signs at the samoa exit “WALK-IN COVID VACCINATION CLINIC TODAY”.

The requirement to use an email is wrong anyway. Last year Google decided that no request from my device was acceptable and I have been without email on that device ever since. And what about those without a device at all? This an attempt to control who gets vaccinated taken to absurd extremes by officials who have no idea how the other half lives. It’s not a benefit to the local community.

Sure it’s convenient for public health to schedule but all they had to do was post a sign in a large parking lot and be willing to vaccinate anyone who stopped by and those doses would have been gone in a flash. Or contacted a provider like Open Clinic and they would have drummed up customers for public health. Or gone to a large employer. If it’s use or lose, then forget the detailed criteria and use.

I know many people, myself included, who would willingly get the vaccine but arent willing to jump through any hoops to get it. Streamline it, or accept the fact that people don’t want to deal with the DMV of health.

Keep on trying, don’t give up…

Communications which are less than optimal and a weak infrastructure of internet providers will lead to flat spots… It is well that the doses were used somewhere!

Get the vaccine, if you desire it… Be patient and perseverant!

Be safe, be well!

I remember when people “freaked out” that the Government would/could decide who lives or dies, went something like “push grandma off a cliff”.

Now they stuffed old folks homes full of Covid + people and a LOT died and 53% of us applaud…

Of course that 53% also voted in Iraqi War Criminal Biden….

So I guess it was never about morality of murder/death….

Yep, and we wring our hands over 500,000+ Covid deaths.

There are roughly 580,000 homeless people in the US. That’s a crisis, yet crickets from the feds. And local and State government for that matter.

Not to mention the starving (posted above).

But some keep pretending that destroying the economy and implementing lockdowns will save them.

Prime example of making something simple overly complicated. Why sign up via computer? I tried and it was a mess. Why not just call or better yet show up and make an appointment. Keep it simple especially for the older population that has limited knowledge of computers. idiots with plan should be fired

100% agree!!!!! What if you can’t afford a computer or a fancy phone? Humboldt county should take this into consideration and make it easier for our community to receive the vaccine before giving our doses to areas that automatically get more allotted doses.

Humboldt County (or the Feds) give cell phones to poor people.
Hang around Eureka in and you will see ‘free phone’ tables.

Maybe the local health officials feel bad that a vaccine for HIV was never developed?

I was at SoHum Clinic on Friday, for my second dose; I saw them taking 01 walk in.

A friend, went for his first shot, 3 weeks ago; he brought along his neighbor. The neighbor got a shot, as a walk in.

Its worth noting that my appointments were at 1 PM, both times, there were barely anyone in line, during both times.

Call the Clinic or just drop in.

I agree 100 percent. That’s exactly how I was able to get my vaccine from RRHC. My mom made an appointment and I went with her and was able to get one of the extra doses they had. I saw a few other people do the same.

no one wants it. it’s a myth that there is limited supply. Even Russia, which has the most effective vax and wide distribution with no hoops has only seen 10% uptake by the people. They are stocking countries around the world.

Doesn’t look like the Plan is going as planned.

Too many are questioning. Too many refusing.

Time for a false-flag? They definitely can’t back out now.

I signed up and was never contacted.

I called Redwoods Rural and they were all out. A few days later happened to hear they had extra at SH and went there.

I hope there aren’t any vaccines missing.

What the fuck is so difficult about setting up an online appointment system that actually works? The CVS system works flawlessly and its task nationwide is at least as complex as My Turn’s is statewide.

You have to call and call again. I signed up and waited, and when I watched people younger than me and healthy getting vaccinated, I called again and got my appointment right away. I think that the state switching from local providers to MyTurn might be slowing things down again.
