Update 12:35 p.m.: Press release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s department.

On 4/16/2021, at about 6:22 AM, Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1300 Block of Buhne Dr. near King Salmon for the report of a domestic violence incident with an infant involved.

The female victim stated her boyfriend, 47-year-old Kyle Muhaw, had assaulted her at the incident location. The victim reported there was a firearm and explosives involved. Based on information provided by the victim, patrol deputies, the SWAT team, Crisis Negotiators, medical personnel, allied agencies and the Explosive Ordinance Detail were dispatched to attempt de-escalation and take Muhaw into custody safely. Upon arrival, Muhaw barricaded himself inside the residence. As of 11:20 AM, Muhaw remains inside the residence but is negotiating with Crisis Negotiators. A warrant for Muhaw’s arrest has been issued.

Any residents near the 1300 Block of Buhne Drive in King Salmon are asked to shelter in place. Buhne Dr. is closed in King Salmon.

Given the threats concerning an explosive device, the Explosive Ordinance Detail (EOD) is checking the residence and Buhne Drive will reopen when they complete a safety check.”

UPDATE 4:15 p.m.: The Sheriff’s Office also stated in a press release,

The suspect will be booked for domestic violence, terrorist threats, and firearm charges (note- the HCSO is not currently in possession of a suspect booking photo. It will be sent out as part of a later update).

Given the threats concerning an explosive device, the Explosive Ordinance Detail (EOD) is cautiously clearing the scene to ensure safety. Buhne Dr. will reopen when EOD has completed the safety check.

The HCSO wishes to thank the public for their patience and cooperation.

Hopefully this ends well with no officers or neighbors harmed.

Does anyone have any idea why South Fortuna Blvd was locked down some time between 2 and 3 yesterday by the Strongs Creek Shopping Center including Kenmar intersection?

I would have let all the cops stay home. Any run of the mill social worker should be able to handle a situation like this one.

When I was little my oldest brother got jumped in the Forks bar by 4 guys, no cops came. The next day a neighbor reported a stolen TV and seven cop cars were there. I remember my mom chewing they’re asses for being so brave.
This was mid 70s

A couple of weeks ago, 4 sheriff’s vehicles showed up at my Mom’s house out in the country in SW Missouri.

Some mama cow and her calf had made a break for it and were strolling down the gravel road. It wasn’t even my Mom’s cows, she had sold all of hers last summer after my Dad died.

4 freaking Sheriff’s rigs for a freaking stray cow.

Of course, some of the nosier neighbors were wondering what the Widow “Robinson” was up to!

Yeah same guy- death penalty comes to mind. This was a very expensive situation and this guy will just do it all again. After we feed and house him for awhile… I’d be fine if the cops just evacuated the neighbors and then blew him up and let everybody else get back to their business.

Hmm. Seems like the last ‘barricaded in residence’ incident was at King Salmon too…

King Salmon/Fields Landing, pretty much that whole stretch from the nuclear plant to the CR exit, has always struck me as being a creepy dark black hole of a place, I always get a bad vibe driving by those marshy bogs.

King Salmon and Fields Landing was a ‘happinin’ place from about 1955 to 1985.

Then King Salmon channels ‘bogged in’… then the Salmon fishery collapsing, post ’77 drought.

Fields Landing hung on a bit longer… first strike was when they closed off whaling (late 50’s I think),
then later on, the feds shut down the bottom fishery. Humboldt Bay used to be a major fishing port.

HCSO should just tell him they’re only going to give him a citation and not take him to the Humboldt Hilton. Isn’t that what happens to 99.9% of the criminals they come into contact with?

Gills by the Bay is a lovely, clean Restaurant at the end of the road there in King Salmon and the area is known for its hard working fishing people who can walk down to their boats from their homes. It makes me scoff at judge mental type people who look down their noses at hard working people. Chill out! The fresh fish n chips at Gills is the best in town!

When I moved here in ‘70 to go to college, there was a tourist attraction in King Salmon. What was the name of it? The area wasn’t so bad then – what happened?

King Salmon has been 1 of my favorite & most often visited beaches for my dogs through the years. Let’s not let ANOTHER area of this county go to a place of ill repute. Take pride in all areas of our county or we are really doomed!
