[UPDATE 7:14 p.m.] Structure Fire Spreading Into the Wildland Off Old Briceland Road

Fire helmet red backgroundAbout 6 p.m. an outbuilding caught on fire in the 1500 block of Old Briceland Road not far from the Garberville Airport. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a small structure fully engulfed and flames spreading into the wildland, according to Cal Fire Division Chief Marty Hobbs.

He told us about 6:25 p.m., “The last report on conditions [said there was] an extension of 1/4 acre into the wildland.”

We’re monitoring the scanner and will be checking in with Cal Fire until firefighters get this under control.

KMUD’s Lauren Schmitt is on her way to the fire also and we hope to get updates from her.

UPDATE 6:37 p.m.: According to a text from Chief Hobbs, “Forward progress stopped. Can handle with resources at scene.”

Firebug, I hope you don’t live up to your name. It just strikes me as funny for the summer wildfire season. Maybe Firefly would be a better pick. Have a good day.

Hmm. Why so much Smooth asphalt on THAT rd?! Looks like the Garberville road crews Use dump trucks graders and rollers. All Mattole Rd gets is a shovel and a yard of patch a month
