64-Year-Old Man Convicted of Multiple Charges–Rape, Forcible Sexual Penetration, and Acquiring a Person for Purposes of Prostitution

District Attorney DA HumboldtPress release from the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office:

Wednesday, a Humboldt County jury convicted 64-year-old Michael Dennis Flowers of all charges brought against him by the District Attorney: rape, forcible sexual penetration, and acquiring a person for purposes of prostitution.

On March 9 of last year, 24-year-old Jane Doe, with the support of a friend, reported to Rio Dell Police Officer Crystal Landry and Chief Jeff Conner that she had been raped by Flowers. Her report motivated a multi-agency investigation led by Chief Conner. The investigation revealed that on February 21, 2020, Doe was driven to the residence of Flowers in the King Salmon area of Eureka by Fortuna resident George C. Feack, who abandoned Doe alone with Flowers. Ultimately, Flowers raped, forcibly sodomized and sexually penetrated Doe with his hand. Feack reportedly received $100 from Flowers for delivering Doe. A forensic exam conducted on March 10, 2020 by Registered Nurse Kristen Hansen of the Sexual Assault Response Team provided evidence consistent with Doe’s description of the assault. At trial, Doe testified she was fearful of both Flowers and Feack, and she submitted to the sexual abuse by Flowers in part due to what she had been told of his past.

Flowers was sentenced in Tuolumne County in January 1994 to serve 50 years in prison for committing three counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child (involving three of his step-daughters), and the attempted murder of Flowers’ then wife, who took her children’s reports of sexual abuse by Flowers to law enforcement. Tuolumne County court records further indicate that charges of sexual molestation of his fourth stepdaughter and arson of an inhabited dwelling were dismissed as part of the negotiated plea. Flowers was released on parole to Humboldt County in 2018.

Jane Doe was the key witness in the trial just completed. Women sexually abused by Flowers during their childhood also provided testimony, as did Flowers’ former wife, who he attempted to murder. District Attorney Maggie Fleming commented that: “The fortitude of Flowers’ victims in facing the defendant and describing their experiences has enhanced public safety and allowed a measure of justice to be achieved. Our County owes them a debt of gratitude.”

Assistant District Attorney Stacey Eads prosecuted the case with the assistance of Chief Investigator Kyla Baxley and Victim Witness Advocate Keosha Chambers. Attorney Russ Clanton represented Flowers. Flowers is scheduled to be sentenced on May 25 at 8:30 a.m. by Judge Wilson, who presided over the trial. Judge Wilson could sentence Flowers to more than 25-years-to-life in prison.

Hmm…sentenced to 50 years for extremely heinous and violent crimes. Released after 24 years to do it again. This is what our “justice” system does to us. This young woman should have never met him. He should have been buried for his first round of crimes. Instead he was fed and housed and supervised at our expense so he could come out and screw up another life- yet again. Who released him? THEY are the ones to blame- THEY are the ones who enable these predators to destroy our communities. And THEY are collecting bloated salaries from our taxes.

Thank you to the brave victims who came forward. My heart is with you.

Yep- it’s known that sexual sadists and child molesters don’t get cured in prison, they have some of the highest recidivism rates. There is something really wrong with our legal system. I agree with Farce, except I would emphasize, WE did this, as a state.

Farce is absolutely right. The justice department is a huge failure and needs to be held accountable. If someone molests your kids you need to deal with it, as you will get no justice from the system. There is no crime more heinous than abusing children and the punishment needs to fit the bill.

Sexual molestation of a child under 16 should be a death penalty. Rape as well. As pointed out by another commenter, sexual predators have the highest recidivism rates, they are not “cured” in prison, and some well-meaning citizens deem castration (which also does not prevent recidivism) as too harsh. This is one crime where I hold no qualms about the death penalty, especially when there are numerous victims over a prolonged period of time. The penalty then absolutely fits the crime, and until US society (among others) starts placing a higher value on women, in general, and specifically on the future and promise of children, MEN will continue to be spared what should be the ultimate sentence for the ultimate crime. Robbing children of their innocence, their dignity, and their trust almost always leads to future psychological problems — as any heinous trauma would.

Agree Farce! Death Penalty for Child Sex offenders and rapists! Especially in cases such as this that the perp is clear cut guilty beyond any reasonable doubt and a repeat offender. This monster should have been
Chemically Castrated.

What to Know About the Alabama Chemical Castration Law

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/11/us/politics/chemical-castration.amp.html

There isn’t any effective therapy for a crime of this magnitude. If predators like this had any inclination of therapy working, they should have sought help LONG BEFORE their acts.

Unfortunately, in 2008, the Supreme Court ruled against the death penalty for such monsters. And Cali. Is very much anti capital punishment.

https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/documents/KennedyPressRelease.pdf

This case is so disturbing! Hope the victims will be able to heal from this tragedy. Kudos to them for coming forward! I wish there was more justice available to victims of these crimes. Life in prison just isn’t enough in my book..

No mention of what happened to Feack.
I’m all for being entitled to a defense against criminal charges, but whoever is in charge of releasing certain convicts should base their decision on whether or not they would take that person in to their own house. Would the parole board members who released Flowers adopt him in their home for a year? If not, maybe don’t send him out in public. Defense attorney, would you let Flowers live with your daughters and wife? If not maybe don’t try too hard in court.

Couldn’t find one relevant to law enforcement issues. However, there is a George Feack from Fortuna on Facebook. I wouldn’t guarantee the pic of the old-timer is actually him, but what do i know. His page is gross, all fake-boobed wannabe porn stars as “friends.” Here’s a screenshot:

Thank you Stacey Eads, Kyla Bailey and Kenosha Chambers for the hard work you do to get these criminals to court. We might’ve not have a photo of these two men until they are sentenced, but at least we have their names. Thank you to Jane Doe and other victims for the courage to tell your truth. May your healing begin. Now, Judge Wilson, YOU need to do the right thing.

This is what supports the fact that multiple count child molesters are as dangerous as serial killers and should be punished the same.

In an odd way I agree that wealthy white men covering their asses created the system that lets dangerous criminals off with light sentences. They’re covering their asses against the accusations of “racism” that get leveled against stronger sentencing guidelines.

Well as long as we let them go to Humboldt…

This subject is not fit for “Comment Section” discussion, the subject is much too complicated, sociologically speaking, and the perpetrator may himself have been abused as a child…

The rules of society have many convolutions, and we can’t really “contact trace” former inmates effectively.

Many of the comments presented here today, are in violation of Ms Kemp’s “rules” as well…

If you can’t say something constructive, please hold your peace.

Suggesting that the man arrested be “immediately killed”, seems over the line, and beyond the authority of anybody in corrections, law enforcement etc…

Will YOU be responsible for this man, his friends, his punishment?

If not, then you suggestions are moot.

AND: Regardless of the actions of the alleged perpetrator here, all men are not rapists!

Please make a note of it!

The parole board lets these criminals loose on us, so why blame the DA and the pols? Blame the parole board. Speaking of which, I believe the parole board should question the actual keepers of a crook to find out if they would favor letting the felon loose. Those best acquainted with a prisoner have the greatest knowledge of him. As it is, I understand the board just shuffles paperwork and makes their decision.

So y’all wanna drag these dudes to the hills and execute them. Sounds like Murder Mountain. How bout drag yer arses away from the keyboards and advocate for better laws? Write letters or speak to the DA and learn they are just as frustrated by the laws. Learn what each person can do to change this. Too hard? Then volunteer, or donate to help victims, like supportive safe houses. But don’t bloviate that it’s all one political party’s fault.
