Press release from Caltrans District 2:

The California Department of Transportation and Myers & Sons Construction will be conducting maintenance operations at several bridge locations along State Route 299 in Trinity County on April 12, 14 and 16.

In order to complete the work, the bridges will need to be elevated several inches, which will require 60-minute road closures twice a day. In order to ensure the safety of the public and workers, no traffic will be allowed on the bridge during bridge jacking and bearing pad replacement operations.

Work is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 12, east of Burnt Ranch near Cedar Flat and will resume on Wednesday, April 14, 2.5 miles east of Salyer. On Friday, April 16, crews will be working 2 miles east of Salyer.

Closure times will be from 8am to 9am and 1pm to 2 pm each day listed above. Speed reduction zones will be in place two miles before each end of the closures. Please watch for signs and slow down for crews and stopped traffic.

If you have any questions, please contact the Caltrans Public Information Office at 530-225-3426 or [email protected].

Bearing plates are critical for allowing bridge expansion and contraction without breaking. I would assume they will also grease these plates to allow for free movement. Sorry to the folks that this will spoil their day, but safety first!
