Community Rallies Around Woman Who Lost Pets, Business, and Home During Major Fire in Redway Wednesday

A GoFundMe to benefit Angelina Jacquez, the owner of Primal K9 Coaching in Redway, set up Wednesday afternoon after her home and business burned down and around 15 pets died in a fire that began early that morning has already raised over $12,000 in less than 12 hours. [Over $16,000 as of about 10 a.m. Thursday.]

Besides Primal K9 Coaching, two other businesses belonging to other people–the Lost Coast Paw Spaw and the Redway Laudermat–as well as an apartment were destroyed by the fire.

The benefit for Jacquez set up by a friend states, “Angelina and her two kids have lost all they own, including her 8 dogs and 10 cats. This is beyond tragic. It would mean so much if we could all raise enough to not only rebuild her business, but to keep her personal life and living condition stable for a few months.”

Besides having the support of her community, yesterday afternoon Jacquez was reunited with one of the cats she had believed lost in the fire. Even so, Jacquez told us she was understandably having a hard time. “Emotionally I can’t handle any more right now,” she told us by message.

Her friend Liana Ryf who organized the GoFundMe wrote, “Angelina and her precious kids, her one dog Noelle, and her two cats we found are safe and sound staying with me at my home until a proper rental opens up.”

Ryf thanked the community. “Again, thank you all,” she wrote. “The fire department, the police, and the two mystery kids that helped her smash her windows, thank you!

Below are photos from the aftermath of the fire. To see how much has been donated now, click here for the GoFundMe.

Let’s not forget there is also another family that lost everything!!! Arlene Stillwell and Kayla and the girls!!! Miss Arlene has been educating our kids for years!!! Kayla also works at the school.
There is an account for them at Vocality Community Credit Union #22872.

Kym, would you consider putting that info for the other family in the article? Some people will not read the comments.

Thank you for mentioning these two women who also lost everything!

And, I wonder why no one has questioned why this woman had 15 personal pets in such a restricted location. There is no way that one person can possibly give that many dogs and cats all the attention they need for good lives.
Is there no law restricting the number of animals a person can have in X amount of space?

I know from listening to Angelina on KMUD that she can and did provide all the love, attention, and care her family needed. Did you not think to consider that it wasn’t just “one person” who couldn’t possibly provide good lives? There was a whole pack/family that co-existed together. It wasn’t like they were locked up in their home like the shelter – they went out on adventures and came back to relax at the house. If you ever looked inside the windows there, you would have seen plenty of space and talk about comfort – made me want to come in and get comfortable on all the plush furniture. Charlotte, your comment is way off base in this case at least. I’m guessing you never got the chance to meet this incredible person. My heart goes out to you Angelina.

Everyone knows you’re a professional rival and that she is a better trainer than you. We all see you trying to cause problems during a tragedy Charlotte! You are old enough to know better.

My understanding is she has insurance and is well to do.

@Knowledge,
The article says she invested all of her income back into the animals she was breeding and raising. Her livelihood has been destroyed and could use some help right now. Financial and emotional support are welcome. Even when someone has insurance that stuff still takes time to go through. She needs our help.

I think the person is talking about the building owner

The only person I’ve heard of who has insurance and resources is the building owner. It was reported on KMUD news that she thinks her insurance will cover HER losses- not the tenants’ losses.

It’s possible Angelina had minimum insurance- she would probably have liability insurance for her business, but I’ve not heard that she had insurance for her animals or possessions. Unless I heard otherwise, personally, I would assume she did not. I doubt she is well off- I doubt very much she’d be living at her shop if she was. It would also be unusual if the other family living there had insurance- most renters do not.

Since GoFundMe is subject to misuse, I would appreciate a heads up of there were a problem. But then also appreciate people who would correct any misundertandings.

Great photos, Kim S!

Charred rafters against the sky, so intense.

I’m suffering inside for all those doggies and cats /kittens lives
that ended in such a horrific way, and for the grief /trauma this has triggered for everyone close to the situation 😭

But a wise person (google) once said, the key is not whether they died suffering but whether they lived suffering.

And they had an owner who cared enough to give them a better life than they could have gotten anywhere else!

They received the utmost love caring and compassion from the one they loved the most.

And the pain or fear they felt, if any, in the last moments of their lives does not define the marvelous and love filled journey they enjoyed. Peace is found in knowing Angelina made their lives worth living.
❤️💕❤️😘❤️💕❤️

May we all be reunited with every one of our beloved pets on that rainbow bridge into eternity ….

According to the County – Pamela Van Meter owns the building, also the Laundromat in Garberville and the Papermill.

I was just going by the way it’s spelled on their business sign, which is shown in the pics you posted.

Sorry about your name being misspelled. I typed it with a “y,” but my phone auto-corrected to an “i.” My failure was not proofreading it before posting.

I know they may have done so already, but I encourage all counsellors in the area to reach out to this poor woman and her family and offer them some free therapy sessions, as I am sure they desperately need them.

So releived that 2 of the cats turned up!
I worked with fire cat rescuers after the Sonoma and Butte county fires. For months after these fires, cats were still being found (sometimes miles away) and being reunited with their families.

Many of these cats were known to be inside homes when they burned. They have ways of escaping that we don’t yet understand.

The message became; “..unless you have a body, don’t give up hope.. the cat is out there..” I’m sorry this does not address kittens too young to run, or dogs.

Angelina.. If you have not found actual bodies for all of the cats, the first step is to put out feeding stations with trail cameras. Please contact me if you want help with this. I left this message on your facebook also.

I removed my comment, but I would add to yours that this is not fire-response training.

Nonetheless, I don’t need to care about the photos or why there are so many posted here.

It’s news. Carry on.

Do you live under a rock! Life is not always Rainbows and Sunshine. This is the reality of life and while it is another story on the unimaginable loss in this fire if it can help our fireman learn in any way it is valuable.

Years ago, I was reading a blog where the blogsite owner was being roundly criticized for the way that he managed his blog. His reply was if you don’t like the way that I run things, start your own damn blog and just go away. I wasn’t the one that he was talking to, but I did look into it and started my own blog. It was fun until facebook ruined it for most every blogger. Kym is one of the survivors, so she must be doing something right.

And the cause -? No such things as accidents. There was a reason no one is talking about. Water heater explode? That was implied in one of the first posts but not talked about now. Poor maintenance or negligence on someone’s part. Always technology to blame – and people not doing upkeep. Tsk tsk

In this brave new plastic world nothing faster than posting on PleasePayMe asking for money. Wonders of the digital age. Crocodile tears for GMO’s (all the pets). Saint Floyd smiles. The media always wins, no matter how fake.

I was talking about the building owner. I should have been more specific. I heard her talking about the insurance aspect. That should umbrella (per policy) for certain acts of God and disasters, etc. I sure hope so. I 100% support that stretch of shops and was extremely happy to see how successful the pooch shop was.

Sorry for not elaborating and causing any stir. Super horrible situation.

Unfortunately her insurance doesn’t help the tenants who by all accounts were renters. Hopefully they had some insurance coverage. Also, she could be in trouble with her insurance if they didn’t know she was renting to people who were living there. Totally different types of coverage.

And zoning oopsies aside, she is unfortunately open to liability on the part of the tenants losses as well. Lucky no one died or was “physically” injured. Mental anguish emotional distress are big ticket claims on their own.

In California responsibilities of the landlord / owner and the rights of the tenant are significant, and binding. Being a landlord is a huge liability.

Thank you Kym for bringing us photos and the story. Such a tragedy for her and her animal family. I know how incredibly painful this must have been to not be able to save your pets. I hope she can get back on her feet in time.

I am so grateful to have a person like Angelina in our neighborhood. She has helped me so much to understand animals and be a pack leader. Why are so many people living in the shadows making such mean comments about this life changing event? I send blessings to those wonderful pets she had that perished in the fire. I knew them all and they were loved and cared for.
I hope that all the people who are “not” commenting in a loving manner, never have to lose everything like this……
Stay in the light people!!!!
