Two people were stabbed near Hayfork late Saturday night, according to reports over the scanner.

The Incident Commander reported over the scanner that one person has a stab to the back, the groin, and what is being called an “evisceration.” The second person has a stab wound to the head and the back.

Two helicopters are being requested to fly to the scene. The first helicopter as of 11:56 p.m. is estimating they will land around 12:30 p.m a.m. The other will take over an hour to reach the landing zone and so the dispatcher is working to find another helicopter to respond.

The suspect, 6’3 wearing a red shirt and black pants, fled the scene, according to a report from emergency personnel over the scanner.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.

I feel like im living in an episode of The Walking Dead. Only except for zombies, we have meth, heroin, cartels, and criminals. I feel like Glen, when he was stuck on top of that stinking gross rotting dumpster, surrounded by these “zombies”

So sick of the heroin & meth. We now have little gangsters in Redway. Smells like burning plastic all the time. Stuff is so toxic in every way. Just bad energy.

Yup. In California… (and about half the USA) they are now ‘in charge’.

We as a community have been the most responsible, we have allowed neighbors and outsiders to have large illegal grows, that brought in organized crime. The ones we caught in the 1990’s into the early 20’s were let go by Gallegos. The word spread about Humboldt. Now we have more outsiders, more organized crime, and we are still turning a blind eye to the neighbors with mega grows. Throw in the fact that the community is largely a pro drug culture and you have the destruction of a once holistic community positive Humboldt!

Growing marijuana now legally at mega grows in our remote areas where our wildlife are struggling to survive, come on Humboldt we can do way better.

Just want to point out that this incident took place in Trinity County (which I think of as pretty conservative), and Mendocino is certainly keeping up with Humboldt for general mayhem.
Here’s a second point: cannabis is often compared with wine growing. Wine production in the Napa/Sonoma area went underground during Prohibition. Now it’s completely legal and, although that region still produces premium product, the bulk of wine grapes are grown in the Central Valley, where there’s lots of good ag land, irrigation infrastructure, etc.
When cannabis is further deregulated and the Valley counties decide they’re okay with it, the same shift will happen with cannabis. Then the social and environmental crimes that are a consequence of prohibition will end.

Susan, my opinion is that the Bill is largely correct. The thing that’s not being understood is that while there are lots of outside people working in the industry, a lot of locals are in the game also. It’s definitely not a liberal/conservative issue. It’s not hippies in the woods anymore. Not long ago hay fork was the middle of nowhere, with very little employment and no downtown. It’s become a boomtown in the last few years.
Also, there is no such thing as legalization. Most of the product is still sold on the black market, the regulations are very easy to cheat, and especially in Trinity county they aren’t doing any abatement so there’s very little incentive to even have a permit. It’s still the Wild West- with no end to the problem in sight.

Specifically, what years did the “once holistic community positive Humboldt” exist?
76? When did the hippies get burnt outa Brice land?
Sept.’79 to may ’81? Nah there was all the “disco sucks”homophobia
August ’83 -Feb ’85? Nah all that fisherman cocaine.
’88 thru early 1990? Nope, crack
91- 95? Hmm redwood bummer, meth
2008? Pills
I think it must have been Reggae on the River 2004. That was only a week or two…no can’t be. some people didn’t like it.

What does this have to do with growing again?
Any time something happens it’s got to be the growers right….Why don’t you guys let all the information come out before you jump to conclusions! I’m from hayfork and know it had nothing to do with it!

Hayfork is about 15 minutes from The Humboldt County line. Same neighborhood and community. Not anymore “conservative”. Same problems

Uhm…having lived at Ruth, I can tell you with great certainty that Hayfork is not “15 minutes” from Humboldt County. Maybe if you’re a crow flying straight west.

Granted, 36/3 are much better than they were in my day, but it still is in no way “15 minutes”.

Hayfork is 1hr 6 min from the Dinsmore store. 1 hr 46 min from Willow Creek. If a community’s spirituality is determined by proximity, then Hayfork is aligned with Shasta County. Or at least Trinity Co. ..Douglas City?

When you being attacked by and individual with a knife you must choose to fight for flee. Always flee but if you can not, make your vital organs small targets and position yourself in a side stance as opposed to shoulder square.

They used to teach this in eagle scouts when I was a kid.

The suspect is described as 6’3. While I’m sure there are a few tall Mexicans, something tells me this guy isn’t one.

If memory serves, that last time a Trinity County Sheriff died in the line of duty, around 50 years ago, the killer was found to be incompetent and sent to a mental institution. The murdered Deputy was Chester Jackson.

Reagan was Governor, Nixon was POTUS, Humboldt and certainly Trinity County were Republican.

I was responding to the comment above,

“Good Job, Tolerant and Progressive California!!!!”.

Just brought back an ancient memory, that things weren’t all that different 50 years ago.

Edit, not to forget Sheriff Gene Cox and two others some years later.

I would like to say, if anyone is sick of this type of behavior, the one thing people can do is deem this unacceptable and work taking their community back and quit blaming drugs, cartels, and leos. Be a part of the solution and stop bitchin!

For Angie Robinson, are you sure the deputy killed in Burn Ranch area 50 some odd years ago was Chester Jackson, I remember him by another name. He was a very good friend of my family as were his many brothers, who by chance grew up in the Hayfork valley

I remember the Chester part, because that name stuck with me because of the Gunsmoke TV show.. But looking it up, his name was William Chester Jackson, so maybe he was called Bill. I certainly did not mean any disrespect.

Thank you Angela, I was hopeful it was something like that and not a slight as reference to Gunsmoke TV. Yes we all called him Bill, his brother Sam who was also a Trinity County deputy was involved in a traffic stop in Old Shasta Ca not long after and ended up getting one of his fingers shot off.

I’m a 54 year resident of Trinity county.
It’s the meth element.
It’s the transplant growers.
Inadequate law enforcement.
Law enforcements hands are tied, due to state legislature.
Which does translate to politics.
A liberal problem.
And shows the need for Jefferson the state. IMO.
