Fundraiser Set Up for Children Orphaned When Tree Fell on Parent’s Car

Jessica and Jake Woodruff and their family.

The couple that was killed when a large redwood tree fell on their vehicle which was traveling southbound on Hwy 199 near Hiouchi March 25 left five children behind.

A GoFundMe is now set up to help them. According to the fundraiser, Jessica and Jake Woodruff were “on an annual trip up the coast for Jessica’s 45th birthday” when the tree fell on their car.

The fundraiser goes on to state that five children-Megan, Evan, Casey, Allie, and Chelsea-“are now left without parents and are facing a lifetime of expenses.”

Not surprising they didn’t link the Kym Kemp article where Kym literally let people crack jokes about their deaths.

J, What should disgust you is that this is how some people think and talk, not that you can see it on the internet.

In grief, we are counseled to think "what would I have done today if X hadn't happened?" Do that.

If only Kym would blow your comment up.

5 kids just lost their mom and dad, but someone’s gotta find a way to cast some shade.

I get the temptation, but here?

I am wondering what will happen with the children? Will they be adopted out? Such a very sad accident and loss for the children.

If one of them is over 18 they can be/will be the younger one’s legal guardian. If not yet 18, hopefully a family member will take them in until the oldest is 18.

Amanda is a 1st cousin on Jessica’s side. Just as I am, Rachel Lewis. Please know we appreciate any help for their children and feel free to continue to share. This is our first time navigating anything like this for fundraising so all guidance is welcomed.!

Their adult kids 22&24 will be raising the younger 11,9 and 8 from here on out so we are hoping to surpass any goals set given they will need every penny to provide for all of them.
Warmly and grateful!

Please People ,
let this sad event be a wake -up call to everyone , everywhere to LOve One another. Be kindhearted , and make space for Grace. Compassion and Empathy both more readily available all ways.
This is so tragic . When I feel the shock and immediate loss for these children of BOTH their parents , i just haveto cry . Then when i read comments on here from hyper- privileged , lethargic minded, apathetic people,
spewing their cass remarks completely insensitive to the reality of what just happen; that too makes me very cry- indeed.
Wake up and LIVE ! This time here on this sweet earth is so very precious, especially HERE in the Redwoods
Region where we make our Home. – Rrrrrright ?? It could be anyone of us at any moment to be called home.
Give Thanks All the While . Tell those in your life ” I Love You ” . Love to ALL the Woodruff Family !
pass this ” Go fund Me ” campaign forward to loved ones everywhere.

Hi Rachel…I would but this site wont let me share my email with you. You can try and find me on Facebook and send me a friend request.
I think the best thing for these kids would be to create a Bitcoin Trust so that each child will have access to 20% of the trust when each turns 18.
It will accumulate 6.2% interest at Celsius. I sent them an email asking them about setting up something like this. It will be secure there. Anyone will be able to contribute to the trust. We can make it open for donations.

What a horrible thing to happen to such a wonderful family. I truly hope the two adult’s families will intervene and provide support for their grand children. Since these two wonderful parents were (stated) residents of Yreka., I hope their Church is notified, as well as their close friends. My heart is hurting . We all need to help this family as tho it was our very own grandkids!!

Horrible tragedy. Let this be a wake up call to everyone. TERM LIFE INSURANCE people!

One should have 10-12 times their income. If you don’t do drugs, use tobacco and aren’t obese, term life insurance is very affordable.

Once you take care of your family by being insured, pay off all debt, build an emergency fund of 3-6 months of expenses and THEN put 15% of your income into retirement.

For sure

GOFUNDME is such a special way to go. Thank you to ppl who create these valuable sites. If a million ppl send $1 each, that’s an amazing blessing.
I want to remind ppl about the other tragic story of the local mom with 5 children, whose legs were destroyed by the pitbulls. I was hoping her story wld go viral & she wld receive $1 from a million ppl.
These stories are so sad, but the survivors will be uplifted by the generosity of many.

This is truly terrible. A number of years ago I represented the family of a man killed on SR 36 by a falling redwood tree. We were able to prove that the tree in question was an obvious danger and that Caltrans had not performed adequate tree inspections of the trees that bordered SR 36.

It was heartbreaking that in my case the death was absolutely preventable.

I don’t know the circumstances of this case involving the Woodruffs, but based on what I know about how Caltrans has done tree inspections in the past, I would be concerned that Caltrans should have identified the tree that killed the Woodruffs as a danger. Though I imagine it is the last thing on the family’s mind, getting the right experts to look at the tree now before it is removed or decays could be very significant in determining why this tragedy happened.

I am the children’s great aunt. Jessie was my brother and sister-in-laws only child. This horrific freak accident has been devastating to all family and friends. The shock this makes it impossible to believe it is real. My niece and her husband were wonderful people and awesome parents who will be missed immensely! My great nieces and nephew are precious and will need so much support. I want to thank Amelia Maffei so much for setting up the gofund.me. I also want to thank everyone who has donated and those who are thinking of donating. Your love and caring is so overwhelming for all of us and much appreciated! It is so incredible to know how many good people there are out there in this world. God Bless You all
