Rio Dell Woman Taken to the Hospital After Crash on Hwy 101 South of Stafford

Traffic collision, crash, wreck, feature iconAbout 8:55 a.m., a vehicle struck a tree off Hwy 101 near the Jordan Road Offramp south of Stafford, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Rick Fowler. An ambulance carried the solo occupant, a woman from Rio Dell, to the hospital with major to moderate injuries.

Fowler said the woman was traveling northbound on Hwy 101 for reasons when, for reasons still under investigation, her car drifted across the center divide, across the southbound lanes and hit a tree on the west side of the road.

The number two lane was shut down for a short amount of time.

Guest, it is not the roads fault that she crossed the center divide and hit a tree. The cause is driver’s that are impaired, talking on their phone, falling asleep, mechanical problem, not paying attention to the road, etc. I do hope that the woman will recover fine from the accident.

It’s not the road’s fault necessarily, although the camber of the road can contribute to accidents. And it isn’t necessarily the driver’s fault. She could have had a medical incident. So maybe nobody should rush to judgment

Don’t forget being ran off the road as a possible cause, Martin.

And yes, the road can contribute.
Did you know that in other countries their two lane roads are sometimes separated by a center white dashed line that is the same look as the white dashed line that separates two lanes in the same direction, such as is the situation from Jordan Creek to mile marker 47, or the call box south of Stafford northbound 101.

Foreigners will sometimes pull off at the call box and for whatever reason, turn around and head south in the northbound fast lane.

I have personally witnessed it.

I suspect it happens once in a while.

There are often reports of it there.

That is the kind of anamaly I am talking about.

I drove through there today, but did not see the accident location.

In the slow lane of course, never the fast lane, from Jordan Creek to to the Call Box.

You can trust me Martin, or you can risk learning it the hard way.

101 from the forks to eureka is # 18 out of the 18 deadliest road sections in northern California for 2015, 2016 with 12 fatal crashes in a 40.8 mile section resulting in 12 fatalities.
.294 fatal crashes per mile.

Bonnie Cook very astutely associated cell phone coverage, or lack thereof, as a possible contributing factor.

I agree, and that is ,or was, also the case in the Weott area.

Is that a road condition that contributes to accidents?

Debatable.

Call it a change in the electrical field.

Always “foreigners”? They more tuned in to the electrical fields?

I did not suggest that the cell phone reception issue happened with foreigners at any increased or decreased “frequency”.

The white dashed line issue as a center divide is limited to them.

Guest, I have no intentions of trusting you or anyone else for that matter when it comes to reasons for vehicle accidents. Some people need to learn how to drive and maintain a sharp eye for what is going on around them. I don’t appreciate you telling me I can learn it the hard way! Chances are I have been driving 101 since you were in diapers.

Martin,

I meant no disrespect.
However, your sharp eye won’t help you if you meet someone that is travelling southbound and you are both in the northbound fast lane through there, because it is a blind turn.

You will never see it coming.

If you choose to go ahead and take that risk, that is your choice, don’t say I didn’t warn you.

But if you have anyone with you care about, you should maybe reconsider, and choose the slow lane.

That’s the easy way.

Yes,
the risk is small, I have only encountered it once in 43 years, but the motorcyclist and I both lived, only because I had chosen the slow lane.

Yet, the reports of wrong way drivers through there are often.

If it’s true what you say about driving 101 since I was in diapers, as far as the chances,
then you probably will likely be back in them by the time you meet someone head on through there, if you aren’t back in them allready.

Or would that be all ready?

If you are somehow able to avoid the collision, or not,
you will have been prepared for the subsequent inevitable outcome.

The guy I met was on a motorcycle, wearing a riding suit. Bummer.😁

Four people were killed there when their HumVee flew over the guard rail for unknown reasons not that long ago.

There is no doubt in my mind an oncoming vehicle was a likely cause.

Learning to drive means being aware of potential hazards, seen and unseen.

I tried only to provide you and others with information I hoped might protect you all and your loved ones on your journey.

No need to get testy.

I can’t help it if you disregard it.

You see, there is method to what you only see as madness.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure…

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink…

Yet, if you end up like so many others through there, that drink won’t do you any good, anyways…
unless, maybe, if it’s used to put what’s left of you out.

The horse might come in handy to try and pull you out.

That’s the hard way.

Some people like to gamble.

Not me.

Guest, it is plain to see that you will get your two words in on the subject no matter what I say. Please stick to your own driving and dictionary of driving knowledge, and leave me alone. I will no longer comment!

Hey Martin,
Accident on 101 northbound today at 4:10 pm.
Guess where?
Yep, mile marker 47.20.

I believe that is real close to the call box just south of Stafford.

I wasn’t kidding.
Hope that wasn’t you,
Martin, you ok?

Damn foreigners again probably…😁

Premonitions? Me?
No.
Not ever…
Educated guesses?
Maybe.
Coincidence?
Riiight… Suuure…

Crystal ball?

That’s kid stuff.

The unknown reasons could be cell phone related. They never mention that. Seems like there are a lot of cross overs on the highway and you wonder why. Do they check the phones in the car if they haven’t been destroyed?
