[UPDATE 11 p.m.] Three Injured in Two Vehicle Crash Out Hwy 36
Two vehicles collided about 9:37 p.m. on Hwy 36 near mile marker 15.5 west of Grizzly Creek Redwoods, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page. Three people were injured according to the scanner.
Because of no cell reception, one of the occupants used the text 9-1-1 option that just became available last October to alert emergency services of the incident.
The Incident Commander reported over the scanner that extrication is in progress as of 9:59 p.m. He also said that the highway is completely blocked.
Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available.
UPDATE 11 p.m.: The patient that was being extricated is just now heading to St. Joseph Hospital after a lengthy process to get him out of the vehicle, according to the scanner. A woman also injured is also being taken to the hospital.
Another man with a mouth injury left the scene on foot before emergency personnel arrived, according to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page.

The man being extricated was my father, Marc Broussard, who died in the hospital just before six am.

Marc was my best friend and mentor. I saw him over the years care for hurt animals and people and nurse them back to health. I was one of them. I will miss him dearly.

Hi I just wanted to send my condolences to you and your family. I just wanted you to know a group of 4 prayed with your dad. We held his hand and prayed with him and for him. I touched his hand and told him everything was gonna be ok.
During those hours of his life many people were with him comforting him best we could. He was very strong. Wish there was more we could have done to save him. So sorry he’s gone I prayed he would make it when I got home and thought of him. God bless you and your family with the strength that is needed in this time to make it through.

Marc was considered as one of the family and he was such a great guy with a great attitude, we thought the world of him.him and my son spent slot of time together, intact Marc was here on Friday and Wes was out there Saturday night, but Wes left quit sometime before Marc. Marc spoke of you often. We will miss him showing up, and his smiling face.

Sounds like another jackass DUI running away from their consequences. In my opinion if you are attempting to flee the scene of your crim bystanders should be able to beat you unconscious to keep you there! Also, leaving the scene of an accident should be as high or higher of a penalty as the DUI itself, its called accountability and if you don’t like it then don’t drive!

Hrmm leaving the wreck should be higher than dui ? So someone goes for help because of no cell phone coverage and they should be charged with dui ? Or minor fender bender and neither party wishes to report they should be charged with dui ? General statements without thought as to how those statements would be applied across the board are foolish and an attempt to force others into ones own personal view of the world. How about people should accept that driving is dangerous and no matter how safe one drives there is still risks as one CAN NOT control how well or safe the other drivers are, when you drive you are accepting that risk and should be prepared to react at anytime to an unsafe driver.

We came up on the accident soon after it happened. My husband is a retired Fire Chief and went to see if he could help. The Volunteers that arrived on scene, as well as off- duty fire personnel did an excellent job with an extremely difficult patient extrication and should be commended. We’re so fortunate to have people in our area dedicated and willing to come at a moments notice.
ALL of our first responders are a cut above. Thank them when you see them

The man who was hit by the drunk driver was Marc Broussard; his girlfriend was in the car with him. He died in the hospital just before six am; she was okay. The other driver was drunk, speeding and in the wrong lane. He’s been arrested but was fine.

Pray that the people taken to the hospital will be fine. I wonder why the man with the mouth injury left the accident site. Could he have been the guilty driver, or just in a haze. A friend was in an accident years ago by the eucalyptus trees near Harper’s. She was pushed into the guard rail and her car was totaled. The first responders found her walking down the shoulder about 100 yards from the crash. She had a broken pelvis and was in severe shock. No alcohol or drugs involved.
He was drunk, speeding and in the wrong lane; he’s now in custody. My father Marc was in the other vehicle, stone cold sober and driving home with his girlfriend when his car was hit by the man who fled the scene. My father died in the hospital this morning.

He made pore choice and is devastated. I know he personally never hurt anyone. He is good man who made really bad decision that he will live with rest of his life. He has son of his own. Bad decision my ass! Isn’t this the second incident where he has driven drunk and hit another car. Only this time he killed an amazingly kind and generous man. Marc’s friends, family and community lost an incredible man that night and the world is poorer for the loss!
