Slow F Street Down Group Asks Community to Write Letters of Support for Measure Z Funding for a Traffic Signal

Slow F Street Down, in cooperation with the city, is asking the community to write letters of support for Humboldt County’s Measure Z Funding Application to install a traffic signal at the intersection of F Street and Oak Streets. The application states that “A Traffic Signal analysis in conformance with the California Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices was done. Warrant 7 (crash history) was met. A traffic signal is warranted at this time due to crash history.”
The residential neighborhood of Rosewood, south of Henderson Center, has seen a dramatic uptick in vehicles driving at high rates of speed along F Street, resulting in greater numbers of accidents. It is estimated that 9,000 vehicles travel daily on this north/south corridor which bypasses Highway 101 and connects to the waterfront from both ends, by route of Herrick.
If the intersection of F and Oak Street were safe, more neighbors would be inclined to walk or bike to Henderson Center, and perhaps allow their children to walk to Grant Elementary, which is a long time goal of the Safe Routes to School task force.
Pedestrian and vehicular safety would be greatly improved with a traffic signal at the intersection of F Street and Oak Street.
Please send your letters directly to the Measure Z Committee by March 4th:

Can we tell these people to shut the F up and stop pretending they speak for all of us?
No, but we can tell them that they own property on a thoroughfare and that’s why they got a good price. We can’t tell them they should understand that there are a few hundred of them and many thousands who use the thoroughfare. They should sell their houses to young people who need an entry point in the housing market while they take their equity and get a better place. That’s capitalism.
I don’t think a traffic light would slow drivers down. It’s a mental thing. It’s like the traffic speed reduction sign from 65 mph to 45 mph coming into Eureka from the South. It just doesn’t work. It would have been better to remove the K-Mart traffic light and reducing the MPH to 45. The speed from Eureka to South is rarely 65 mph. Most vehicles including big trucks (not Semis) are at 75 mph. Even CHP writing tickets doesn’t slow drivers down. We are all just in a big hurry. The only thing that may work would be governors on four cylinder engines and then owners would remove the governors. Yet every year car manufacturers are installing bigger engines. I don’t think $10 or $20 dollars a gallon would work. And we are pushing towards that price about every six months. Maybe Caltrans would make enough money to construct a third FAST lane where you could drive as fast as you wanted. Get out of my way or I will run your ass over!
You expect all of us taxpayers to accept spending $300,000 of Measure Z(W) $’s on a signalized intersection for F street? Why not have a full time police officer hired to address your street and ticket the speeders??? How much attention has actually been spent of speed enforcement? Give us the numbers- years/tickets. Probably very little time and money spent by Eureka’s finest.
The problem is that the intersection is not in the City limits and the sheriff’s department does not patrol the area for speeders. However, I do not want a traffic light installed at that intersection.
I live on F and I think several speedhumps would be a better option.
🕯🌳The RTS bus doesn’t even slow down coming in to Eureka.🖖🖖
No cars in Eureka, horses only. That would slow things down.
Horses and BMX bikes.
Wouldn’t a stop sign be better and cheaper?
Stop light so people can gas it to beat the red. or sit and idle for minutes waiting for the green. Sounds genious.
I fornone dont think people go very fast on F. sounds like a bunch of drama to me.
All for the trees though. i like that they would hide all the shit holes along F.
Biden not only won. He’s putting Trump to shame. Speaking like an adult. Handling with the virus with competence. Handling Saudi Arabia in a professional manner. Not cuddling up to the crown prince who had an American resident butchered with impunity while being text besties with Jared kushner. (Shall I continue?)
Meanwhile the trumpers in Florida have actually built a golden idol of the Insurrectionist in chief. I guess those christians didn’t fully grasp the commandments. Especially the one about not worshipping false idols.
