Press release from Caltrans:

Our slide removal and prevention work along U.S. 101 at Last Chance Grade south of Crescent City has progressed to the point where we believe we will be able to limit delays to approximately 30 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. Weekdays we are aiming for the usual: Approximately 2 hours between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and 30-minute delays outside of that time frame.

As the slope has been drying crews have been working hard to remove tons of slide material. Crews have also been building berms, keeping our catchment area as clear as possible, readying additional prevention methods, and utilizing 24-7 spotters to make sure the traveling public is allowed safe passage.

Almost there. Two strong looking rock outcrops on both sides and not far to go to the flat up above. Maybe Cal Trans will be proactive this summer , clear the debris of course, but work the grade up to the flat . . . then it all should be good to go.

The strong looking outcrops aren’t so strong. Part of one collapsed and set off the soil slope above it. Maybe they’ll end up scalping or terracing the upper part of the hill, but that would take some design and planning.

If they keep cutting back the hillside and shoring up the roadbed with I-beams, there will be no need for a bypass.

What’s with the barrier wall south from King Salmon on 101 being removed? It seems like it was a perfectly good wall. Did Biden decide the 101 would be perfectly safe with no wall between northbound and southbound traffic just like he mistakenly thinks the US is perfectly safe without a border wall between countries?

It’s madness. We need more walls. The more walls the safer I feel. Why isn’t there one on the northern border? Just look at all that open space where those crazy Canadians can just run through and invade our country. Build a wall and make em pay for it, otherwise we start putting tariffs on maple syrup.

How many billions did the clown spend on that joke of a wall ! Another lie from the moron and fools believed him. A year ago this week he said the virus is almost contained, we just passed 500,000 deaths. I could qoute another 20,000 lies, but why bother, those who lack common sense blindly follow like sheep off a cliff.

You were on to something until you brought up politics.[edit] There’s a lot better places to be doing road construction around here.
