If you crash a Subaru into a cardboard box, the Subaru will lose…

Subarus should never be used in anger… Anger is what you will feel, after you buy one!

A Subaru is not a substitute for competent transportation.

Subarus are “one hit” wonders…

I wouldn’t hurt a fly, or intentionally crash a Subaru into one…

I wouldn’t say Subarus are shit, but they are made out of shit…

If you want a VW motor, buy a VW, not a Subaru…

Had a used 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon with 80,000 on it when I got it. Drove it for a 100,000 with regular maintenance, got a new car, gave the Subaru to a friend who needed a car . . . he drove it for another 60,000 miles . . . and then my friend passed away, and the Subaru went to the scrappers with 240,000 on it . . . it was a heck of a fine car. I would certainly get another one if I needed it.

That’s a sad story. I should hope you would have the ability to learn from experience…

Buy a Subaru. One million old ladies can’t be wrong…

What’s the opposite of a sports car? A Subaru.

Want a good car? Acura, Honda, Lexus, Toyota… Last forever.

240,000 miles? And how much duct tape did you use?

I would never own a Subaru… Too embarrassing.

My VW Jetta TDI has 180,000 miles on it now and is still getting 50 mpg. When I meet other diesel jetta drivers they tell me mine is barely broken in ☺ and will go another 180,000 with regular maintainence. I have no reason to doubt that.

Subaru owner, from Covelo… Wants to race…

That tends to strengthen any argument against Subarus…

My first Subaru – a 1975 job with only front wheel drive – came to me with 125,000 miles on it. Had been owned by a Swiss architect (does it get any more anal than that?) who steam cleaned the engine once a month. I proceeded to drive it into the ground, up and down ten miles of rough dirt road five days a week. With just good tires and front wheel drive it did fine in two feet of snow. That car was deliberately disabled at 425,000+ miles by my mechanic. It simply would not stop running, and even though I had registered it as non-op, he knew its legendary reputation would guarantee that someone was going to try and steal it, and he was worried that it was going to hurt someone. He called it “the immortal car that ran on [my] will alone”. That was quite a doughty little car. Pick your model, not all Subes are overrated.

Agreed Vern! Loved my Subaru Outback! Had nearly 207,000 miles on it when my nephew drove it back to college in Colorado.

Very timely because I am looking for a vehicle for my son who snowboards and needs 4WD/AWD. I’m partial to the Tacoma but might be out of his price range. Do Subarus have engine issues around 100,000 miles?

The 2.5 liter subaru engines do tend to have some head gasket issues after 100k miles. Most go to 150,000 miles or more before it gets bad enough to require repairing though. The 2.0 liter engines or the older 2.2 liters are better.

The 2.5’s after 2012 or so don’t have the head gasket issues.

Two things your son should have drilled into him:
1. Routine maintenance
2. Routine maintenance

Re: Tacomas. Best truck ever made IMHO. Sad I had to sell mine. And they just keep going up in value. If he can find one that’s affordable, great.

Here’s a tip – he should look into the Toyota Venza, a small SUV with all wheel drive. They were almost giving these things away, now they’re getting recognition (owners love them) and they’re going up in price ($5000 within six months). These are great cars, period.

And I *highly* recommend switching to synthetic oil. That goes for everyone. Magic stuff, do your research if you don’t believe me. I’ll be using it for all appropriate vehicles and equipment, forever.

Subarus have engine issues when they roll off the assembly line…

Subarus have: No power, terrible brakes, lousy handling, ass-ugly styling, cheap interiors, crappy stereos, primitive controls, and, Subaru owners are not too informed as to what a decent motor vehicle should be…

Subarus are not really cheap to buy, any more, either!

Yes, there’s always some idiot kid in the 300hp turbo model, who wants to race, and who disconnected the mufflers, so it will sound cool… pretty silly looking, are you not? Once upon a time, we had Corvairs, but now, “Unsafe at any speed” well describes the average person in a Subaru…

There are many vehicles I would not buy or operate:

Buicks
Ford anythings
Dodge Pickups
Chevrolets of any description
Tesla – yuck!
Hyundai, or any Korean car
Yes, Fiat
British automobiles of any description
BMW

But, the Subaru, is, “The Worst Car in the History of the World”!

I would rather drive a YUGO! (and you know why!) (A big Yugo is called a WEGO!)

I’m driving my second AWD Subaru. The first one was an Outback (lordie I loved that car!) that literally saved my life in an accident on 101 fifteen years ago. The replacement is still rolling. I’ve replaced side mirrors and windows (parking on the street in Seattle will require this) but it’s still functional. Engine works, antilock brakes work, windows open and close, lights go on when you turn the knob.
When I bought my first Subaru, I researched it and found it is one of the safest cars on the road.
You’re right, a million little old ladies can’t be wrong!
And the main issue with automotive safety seems to be the damnfool behind the wheel.
Back off on the Subaru jokes. They go 200K and still work.

My first car was an 85 Subaru GL wagon. Drove it to Phoenix and back twice at 250,000. Rolled it on Tompkins Hill Road at 260,000. It was still running, laying on its roof!

I work for a national warranty company (and no, we do not call you to say your warranty is about to expire, we are legit for the last 30 years)…I have seen nearly all failures on all cars and have for years. There are very, very few car lines that I would buy, and Subaru is one of them. I have no idea where your criticism of Subaru comes from.

As for VW, well, not so impressed

Not necessarily. The newer ones are safe. A friend was t-boned on Broadway and the cops told her that the reason she survived was the Outback she was driving.

I had a ‘76 Subie hatchback, front-wheel drive. Drove it all over the hills and dales for years and finally gave it to my wilderness family neighbors who drove off into the Humboldt hinterlands, a classic diorama of Route 66, american dream, and Humboldt dreamin’. Remember, when were great in days of yore? So, yeah, great car.

Best and only wife ever now drives her AWD Outback which she got about 4 or 5 year s a go. Nice rig at the price. They gave her the advertised rebate, even though she was maybe a day off. Nice gesture.

So, Subaru vs. Toyota at the Reservation casino? Talk about your inter-tribal hostilities! Can’t make this up. Not gonna say: where are you Tarantino? Tear off the headline, head to Cancun like Snake-on-a-plane and flesh out the story line. Not gonna say it.

For the cost of a Subaru, you could have had a SH-AWD Acura, slightly used!

My first encounter with a Subaru was in 1968, when I test-drove a Subaru 360, a real POS with a 2-stroke 25hp engine…

Brand-new, it was $965, (and worth every penny), but in those days, a new VW Bug was $1695, and the obvious best choice…

It’s a different world, now, and Toyota owns 20% of Subaru, but those 4WD Station Wagons are a real tired joke on the USA!

I would buy a Volvo XC70, but I wouldn’t touch a Subaru…

They saw you coming VMG. They sold you a motorcycle with a shell on top! They don’t make motorcycles anymore, but they do make very reliable cars. Go test drive a 3.6r wagon. Make sure you bring along a pair of spare undies, as you may wee wee yourself! Subaru’s have changed in 50 years!

On which specific consumer reports list do you refer, Bright Eyes, I mean Bushytails. I did extensive research before buying my vw, and specifically chose my vw because of the numerous high ratings. Suberus also got high marks, though the final $30k sale was determined by hours of careful research & liking where it was manufactured. My model is similar to the outback, nowhere did I find ratings down in the dumps for it, and I looked precicely for such a report, thankfully to no avail. It’s annoying when ppl spew flawed conjecture and present it as fact.

I`d love to see something like this!! What a hoot!!!

The most exciting thing I`ve seen in Covelo was some meth tweaker screaming and shouting unintelligibly near the gas station. I`m not in Round Valley very often and then only in the daytime so I guess I`ll likely miss all the action. Too bad…..

If it were 2 men instead of 2 women involved in this violence, would people be still be calling this a mental health crisis? I think we’d be seeing different comments, such as calls for attempted murder and reckless endangerment charges as well as time in a State prison. Convince me that I’m wrong.

Same old shit different day. Families need help before they have problems or here you go. The kids learned all of this crap in their homes before they even get out on their own. It continues on and on and on. The bully beatdowns. And the parties where everyone is just totally rude and out of control. People stealing everything from everybody. Sleeping with cousins, friends, siblings and God knows what can really stir up a lot of emotions. Then when a mostly super immature population has never been taught to deal with issues this is the result. Turning your back, ignoring things, and turning a blind eye, pretending nothing is happening does nothing but perpetuate the issues. It truly takes a village for good things to happen. Just like it truly takes a village to support the development of this modern day Sodom and Gomorrah.
