Samantha Karges, spokesperson for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department told us this morning, “Deputies arrived on scene and located two adults and one child experiencing the residual effects of bear mace. Emergency medical services provided treatment to the involved parties on scene.”
She explained, “Upon further investigation, deputies learned that the two adults, a male and female, had been in some type of disagreement, during which, bear mace was deployed.” But, she said, “It is unclear at this point who actually deployed the mace.”
The person who had been detained was released yesterday. Karges explained, “Due to a lack of evidence and witnesses, no arrests were made on scene. However, the case is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review of potential future charges for involved parties.”

rollin, Yep, there are migrant families being detained at the border and I don’t like many aspects, but please don’t confuse the current policy with Trump’s policy. The children remain with their parents. Families are not being separated (sometimes permanently like under Trump). And so far families appear to be being held in better conditions.
There is a surge (likely as a result of a backlog of people who waited to avoid the harsh Trump policies and as a result of the pandemic beginning to be less fearsome and as conditions worsen in countries south of here) in unaccompanied minors.

The Obama administration however did not separate large numbers of migrant children from their families with no plan in place on how to reunite them.
However, I was talking about why what the Biden Administration was doing wasn’t the same as what the Trump administration did. If you want to include Obama’s mistakes (and there were many), we can though.

The reason those family separations happened was because children became a pass for adult illegal immigrant. Court cases ordered children released and that meant their parents were released too. You rage against Trump as if this free for all was not created by people opposing “caging children” in the first place. When the press and liberals acknowledge that this is why it happened, then maybe a reasonable immigration policy can be created and encoded. Where future illegal immigrant sees the US has an actual enforced policy and that slipping across the border no longer gets a better outcome than following the laws.
But that would mean no open borders, which despite the protests, is exactly what so many liberals want even if it means a free pass to all sorts of criminals and damage to the US community.
So to be clear it’s okay to hold children in detention centers if they cross alone. That’s totally cool, it’s just not cool to put them in the same spot if they are separated from their parents? 2800 out of the 467,000 that were apprehended illegally entering our border. Let’s say an average of 3 people to a family, So about 1.7% of all illegal crossers are being separated from their children. That’s assuming these children had two parents with them. I wonder what the percentage of separation is for criminals violating other laws that are held in custody? I’m guessing 100% of criminals who violate laws in the United States that are held in custody are separated from their families? Many of these children who do not have other family members willing to take them are held in centers across the United States, many of them abused by their caretakers… Perhaps we should change these laws and start housing the children in the jails with the parents. Or should we just not arrest parents for any violation of the law because we don’t want to separate them from their children? Perhaps penalties for breaking laws should only apply to some laws?
