Press release from Caltrans:

Our slide response along U.S. 101 at Last Chance Grade south of Crescent City in Del Norte County now has a tentative schedule until further notice. Every day motorists should anticipate approximately two-hour delays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 30-minute delays outside of that time frame.

Please note this plan is subject to change with slide conditions and we will continue to update you here with the latest information.

Crews have been thankful for cooperative weather these last couple of days and which has been beneficial toward our slide removal and prevention efforts. We appreciate their all-hours response while ensuring our safety as we travel.

Hmmm… Up to 3 hour delay in daytime… 30 min through at night time ?

Contractors don’t have lights ? Are they not wanting to work after dark ?
Interrupting public travel for the convenience of the contractors ? What gives ?

BTW: Cal Trans is now jack-hammering out the recently installed concrete lane dividers by Fields Landing ?
Can anybody offer an explanation or have they gone nutz ?

Probably needs to be a foot taller , just a hunch. It’s easy to spend someone else’s money, got to keep them pill poppin,weed puffing, meth smokin drivers inbounds.

Those concrete barriers between Eureka and Fortuna kill innumerable deer and need to be permanently removed.

Who the hell cares about the deer. Plenty of them just like rats. I think those are the best way to keep INNOCENT drivers going in the other direction safe from any of the listed below;
Drunks
Pill poppers
Mechanical failure
Distracted driving
Idiots that swerve for wildlife and roll or lose control
All of those reasons I say put anything in between northbound and southbound lanes to make sure people get home safely. Sorry about your deer princess, but ill hit that deer hard enough it’ll buff out. [edit]

My company had a tow to Cresent city yesterday. My driver was in line before 9am and the made him turn around to wait till 11:15. Then coming back they told him they will let traffic through at 2:30. Its a joke. Make long delays at night when its less traffic.
