101 to Open at Last Chance Grade at 10 a.m. Today
Press release from Caltrans:
U.S. 101 will open at 10 a.m. this morning at Last Chance Grade south of Crescent City in Del Norte County. We are planning to keep the roadway open until 6 p.m. Motorists should anticipate at least two-hour delays today as we focus on removal and prevention efforts. Please note your wait time is dependent on when you arrive, and this plan is subject to change with slide conditions.
We will continue constant monitoring of the slide and will provide updates here as we receive them. Thank you very much to our crews, our slide catchment, and those motorists maintaining patience and attentiveness for keeping the slide area safe.

Hmm… Maybe CalTrans should put up one of those digital signs that can be changed to “no chance” or “some chance” or “long chance” grade as needed. Or just leave it at “Take Your Chance” grade.
Or the Johnny Mathis Grade.

The Caltrans web site is hit or miss on working right…. I tried 2 different browsers…
Kind of like them taking 50+ years to address a well known issue.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could get the overlords in the far away land of Sacramento to care about the northern counties? Please Gavin Newsolini help us!!!
