First off the dogs with the worst bite in order are Mastiff, Rottweiler, American bulldog, German Shepard THEN the Pitbull. Most aggressive dogs Chow Chow, Doberman Pinscher, Dalmatian, Rottweiler, Jack Russell Terrier, German Shepherd, AmericanStaffordshire/PitbulleTerrier and Siberian Husky.
The big problem is the owners — Some people do not know the breed or how to be a good dog owner.
1.Like most breeds they need socialization and need an owner who is the leader and teaches the dog good manners. If not they will take over. After all they are a herd animal and left to their own will get into trouble especially when traveling with another dog or more. They feed off each others energies.

2.Owners need to stay on top of their training for at least 5 years – like teenagers they need direction to keep them busy and discipline.

3. Crazy inbreeding because the owner does not spay or neuter the animals or breeding to fight (Pitbull’s are not the only breed used for this).

4. Unfortunately their are some Pitbull’s who have been inbreed and for some reason they develop I call a (craziness) unpredictable behaviors and they should be put down. Usually after 5 yrs old.
I have owned many dogs in my 70 years and the Pitbull has been the best dogs I’ve ever owned. Great companion. They would walk to the top of the driveway around 4 pm to great the kids when they came home from school like clockwork. I am planning to get another soon.
I am tired of people talking about this breed and forming an opinion when they don’t understand the breed.
It’s the OWNERS who are at fault and some people shouldn’t own a dog PERIOD if their not going to be responsible.

Pit bulls can’t “lock their jaw” any more than any other dog and really not at all, they’re just strong. And they don’t even have the strongest jaws of any dog breed. Please check your facts, leave the #alternativefacts behind.

“My kids are around pit bulls every day. In the ’70s they blamed Dobermans, in the ’80s they blamed German Shepherds, in the ’90s they blamed the Rottweiler. Now they blame the Pit Bull.”

I disagree with you. I’m more afraid of the little dogs what the owners say won’t hurt you cause their small. Instead of blaming the damn breed blaim the owner. Having raised many different breeds and working with animals in training and behavior problems over the years pits were always the ones I didn’t have a hard time with. It was the small dogs like chowchows, or german shepherds. Obviously you’ve never owned and raised a pit before. So take some actual time out of your damn day and do some good old research on the subject. Pits are not the most dangerous. The owners are. Maybe the owners that make the dogs grow up this way should be banned. Not the dog…

At least nasty little dogs are very unlikely able to maim and kill anyone. That’s a irrelevant diversion. What’s the excuse for those who actually like to own dogs that are capable of that? And those that encourage them making that choice? If you have worked with “many breeds”, you certainly should be aware that a dog bred for an activity is likely to be better than most other dogs at that activity. And breeding dogs to be better at killing leads exactly to them doing that- being better at killing. If you can’t keep the dogs put of the hands of people who shouldn’t own them then at least make such dogs very, very hard for anyone to own.

No way on God’s green Earth are you more afraid of a chihuahua than a pit bull. If you are going to debate an issue, you have to start with being honest with yourself. Please start again.

Pits ARE the most dangerous dogs based on deaths and medical reports from emergency rooms. 2nd place isn’t even in the rearview mirror. You love your dog, okay. Making up false narratives to defy known negative history is childish.

Well said Donna. My family have been a pit rescue family for years and we’ve only had to put one down for attacking another dog and he was a rescued bait dog (for those that don’t know what a bait dog is it’s a dog thats not trained to fight but to be fought apon to train fight dogs) that got tiggered somehow and attacked the female we had at the time (both were spade/neutered). She only had minor injries and when we got home from shopping both were cowering in separate corners. It was a sad day for us when we decided to have him put down but it wan’t because of his breed it was because of the mosters that trained him. All other pitbulls that we got over the years were and are have behaved as we’ve taught them, with the exception of their insatiable need to get the squirrels in the tree in the front yard 😉 .

Yet you suggest nothing to keep them out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them. In fact by terming them “great dogs” as a breed condones people owning them who should not. Which is most of those who do own them- the “let them run free, they never would hurt anyone unless that anyone intends to hurt me” idiots.
Now if you said they are great dogs “for those capable of consistently keeping them under control” that would exclude 99.99% of dogs owners. How do you ensure they don’t get them for the wrong reasons? It’s too late to be responsible after the attacks.

The owner of the 2 pits that attacked her probably belonged to the motorcycle gang in Myers flat, its ashame many bad people choose pits because of the bad rap they have be given, as killers. Rottweilers and dobbies, mastiff, boxers, all good dogs unless an evil ugly cruel person raises them. It is very sad once again unfit irresponsible animal owners, caused this woman to get hurt and the 2 dogs will be killed. No one knows what kind of cruelty they endured. Between 2005 – 2015
Pitbulls have killed 346 Americans.
66% percent of total death by dogs.

The real issue is just how many people need to die and are seriously mauled before this Pitbull issue is confronted?

It’s in their dna to kill. Period.

No group of accidents/incidents in life can be attributed to one cause. Not all plane crashes are pilot error. Not all auto accidents are from distracted drivers. There are always several probabilities.

Are most pit attacks a result of “bad owners”. That is a high probability. Not absolute.

Lol to whom ever thinks pit bulls are mean or useless you need to educate yourself on the matter before you make ridiculous comments. I’ve owned plenty of pits, bully’s and other breeds of dogs. Every dog is different just like every person is different. It does not depend on the breed it depends on the dogs temperament and the way they’ve been raised and trained. I’ve had shepherds snap at my children and try to bite them in their face or their hand with just sudden movements or loud noises made and on the other hand my pit bully mix could be jumped on poked pulled hit, or rode on and he would never ever harm them.

First off, the nanny dog thing is a total myth and that myth literally kills children so stop that.
Second, people trying to convince other people that pit bulls are nanny dogs directly below a story about pit bulls dismembering someone who was doing nothing wrong right in front of the owner are high-larious – context people.
Third, there are a good number of people who let their pit bulls nanny their children to death, or at least gave them primo front row seats at a spectacular dismembering. Not too many people get to see that…every time they close their eyes for the rest of their lives. Great choices!

There are a number of cities in California where you are not allowed to own one. I feel so very sorry for the woman that was attacked an has potently lost both of her legs from the knee down. I assume someone helped her or probably she may have bled to death. Time for those two dogs to be put down without question!!

Our Blue Heeler, and a black & tan type hound we were dog-sitting, were attacked by a pit bull while my wife was out for a walk (between Eur High and S street) several months back. The pit bull ran from a yard with no fence. There was a big-as-fukk grow-dozer in the driveway with it’s windows rolled down. There was a lot of noise made by all the dogs and my wife. NO ONE came from the house. She now refuses to walk down that street.

And people wonder why we walk with our well trained dog off leash. Her vocal leash is stronger than most leather, web-strap and even chain leashes. If she was leashed, the pit bull would have been in my wife’s face. Fortunately, our Heeler was able to run, leading the pit bull away, and escaped with just one pretty good bite.

I will admit, the first time I ever met/saw a pit bull, it was months before I realized it was a pit bull. One of the nicest, cuddliest dog ever.

Like any breed, if they are raised from day 1 around kids and people they are amazing, safe dogs. The most popular dog breed at any given time are responsible for the most total bites. At one time it was German Shepard, Dobermans, etc. The most bites by breed per-canine-capita is from Chows. (Probably 1:1!)
Even as someone not prejudiced about the breed as a whole, if two dogs did as described they must be put down. The owner created dangerous animals one way or another.

the other breeds you mention may bite or even attack, but it is not their instinct to continue attacking until the creature they are attacking is dead.. huge difference. pit bulls were bred to kill, not to protect their owners like other breeds, but to kill.. its in their genes.. theres no changing that. no matter how well raised a pit bull is, it is what it is. all breeds of dogs came about after many, many years of selective breeding, developing each breed for a purpose whether it be protection, herding, hunting etc.. pit bulls were bred to kill, nothing more.

They are not and have never been “nanny dogs”. That is a myth perpetuated by pit nutters. They are a fighting breed and actually have different brains from other breeds in regions like the amygdala which make them more neurotic and unstable. They are totally unsuitable as pets. People here posting that their sweet pibbles never hurt anyone do not understand that anecdotal evidence doesn’t trump data.

Given the history of the dogs, gruesome known history why were they not taken away from the man long ago? Killed 11 dogs and nothing was done? That I find very bizarre.

Some are kind and loving. Many are unpredictable and vicious. As a owner of 5 Pit Bulls, it is not only how you raise them. I bought one whose mother I could only see from an upstairs window because she was too vicious. I bought it at 6 weeks. Raised in a loving family, along with other sweet dogs. But she had a vicious side to her that none of my other Pit Bulls ever had. It’s not only how you raise them. That myth needs to be debunked. Many Blessings to this lady. In my opinion, with as little info as we have at this time. I would say they need to be put down. If they were my dogs they’d be dead before the ambulance showed up to help her.

I agree the dogs need to be pit down wether they are pitbulls or not. Ive owned many pitbulls myself. All have their own personality. I had 1 that was a little more temperamental than the others. I never trusted him around kids. The one I currently have is the biggest lover ever. With the hard rains the last few days hes been scared to go outside. He is scared of the rain. But I understand what you are saying completely. The same rule should go for humans who murder or commit pedophilia

There are some pit bulls here that obviously have been bred to fight, fought or used as bait. Not saying this is the case here, but some of those have been adopted out by shelters to unwitting people with no experience in dogs- let alone dangerous ones.

Dog on dog fighting is not typically the cause of dog on human attacks; using dogs to guard one’s property, grow, meth lab, or drug house is more likely. I can almost guarantee these dogs weren’t fixed, weren’t vaccinated or microchipped, and has bitten before though less severely.

memy selfandi

You start out by not training them to attack nor abuse them. Dog fighters became attracted to the breed for their looks and strength and they became over bred …poverty tends to increase the likelihood people will do desperate things to make money. When the movie 1001 Dalmatians was popular too many Dalmatians were bred and they went higher on the most or more dangerous breeds as a result of so many people having them and many choosing and treating them like a stuffed toy.

So the indiscriminate breeders of such dogs are excused because of poverty? Someone who has money to feed a dog (or several) is not that poor that it qualifies as an excuse to put others at risk. Starving and stealing bread? Yes. Starving and breeding pit bulls? Ridiculous.

AGREED! Any dog can attack. The real issue is about the damage done when it is a pit. More people were killed by pits this month than the whole history of chihuahuas. How can you justify comparing pits to ankle biters? You are careless, foolish, and dangerous to society.

A pit bull is the result of long selective breeding to produce an animal that has both the psychology and physique to do as much damage as possible to another animal. There is no reason for these animals to exist.

10-12 babies and toddlers are killed by Pit Bulls every year. This has been true for the past decade.

When a pit bull kills a baby, it’s a long, slow process. The dog begins by ripping off the child’s facial flesh (scalp, cheeks) and then burrows in to get at the tongue and eyes.

The child is fully conscious and aware the entire time…it takes many minutes to finally die of blood loss. There is no more horrible death. The agonized screaming of the child just excites the dog even more.

Remember that pit bulls are simply dogs that have had their “wild dog” instincts restored by breeding. Wild dogs (wolves and African wild dogs) typically tear apart and eat their prey alive. Just go on Youtube, there are a hundred videos of wild dogs eating their prey alive. So none of this is complicated.

100 years ago pit bulls were a very rare breed for this reason. However since the 1980s, drug dealers and criminals have been breeding them like crazy and now they are like a disease in many cities.

All of the above comments are facts. Pit bull owners love to deny facts.

In a 2014 literature review of dog bite studies, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) argues that breed is a poor sole predictor of dog bites.[32] Controlled studies have not identified pit bulls as disproportionately dangerous. Pit bull–type dogs are more frequently identified with cases involving very severe injuries or fatalities than other breeds, but the review suggests this may relate to the popularity of the breed, noting that sled dogs, such as Siberian Huskies, were involved in a majority of fatal dog attacks in some areas of Canada.[28] Bite statistics by breed are not tracked by the CDC,[33] AVMA[34] or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).[35]

So the best that that pit bull apologist site ( https://antibreedismalliance.blog/2016/09/03/dog-bite-risk-and-prevention-the-role-of-breed/ ) offer was that the frequency of dog bite might have something to do with the number of the breed in the area. Well duh. If there had been no pit bulls in the area, then of course no pit bulls would be guilty of causing fatalities.

As the sole predictor of bites that is expressing a caution as a Chihuahua may bite in high numbers but is almost non existent in stats on fatalities . But as far as severe attacks the study the footnote mentions had pit bulls (Staffordshire Terriers, American Bull Terrier) as responsible for 6 out of 16 with the next closest was 3 for St. Bernards. While the study showing that reputed breed attribution turning out to be wrong in number of bites was one done in Rome where mastiffs were seen as the most likely to bite but it turned out German shepherds were the true top, probably because there were no pit bulls there to do the biting.

As the CDC put it their study of fatal attacks by dogs, the necessary population studies of dog breeds involved in serious attacks don’t exist as “data are not available, and official registration or licensing data cannot be used because owners of certain breeds may be less likely than those owning other breeds to register or license their animals .” In other words, if pit bull owners are less likely to register their dogs , then they can keep claiming that their dogs are not disproportionately involved.

Yes those dogs should have been taken away a long time ago. I wouldve been tempted to kill them myself if they had killed my dog!
The police should have shot those dogs dead on the spot, as they were trying to kill that woman.

It is NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE PIT BULLS!!!

It is the owners fault. Their owner was + is negligent + did not raise them properly, maybe even starved them – who knows? – the owner, that’s who!!
I am not crazy + i dont have a pit bull + i personally know several very sweet loving pit bulls.

IT IS NOT THE BREED – IT IS THE OWNER OF THESE DOGS WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS ATTACK!!

If someone feels they need guard dogs, the dogs should be safely secured + properly trained to obey any commands from their owner.
This is so sad … this beautiful healthy Mommy of 5 children will be maimed for Life, if she survives.
I pray for her + her children, her fiance + family, that somehow they will find healing + comfort
And animal control needs to be held responsible as well, since they knew these dogs had already killed 11 dogs + bitten other people in the past.

It wasn’t so long ago that it happened around here.
The pitbull was fed cats.
It ended up killing the owners infant niece.

Another aquaintence got his face rearranged by a different pitbull.

Sometimes they just shred each other to bits.

It’s not that uncommon.

I got rushed by a huge loose pitbull walking my leashed husky across the street.
I grabbed my 80 lb. husky and lifted him as high up as I could.
Luckily the pitbulls owner was able to call him off in the nick of time at my feet.

Makes you want to carry, at least a sharp hatchet…

I`m trying to think of what a good weapon would be to carry, that was legal and wouldn`t attract attention. An axe, preferably smaller, of cruiser axe size would be very effective. Pretty impractical to carry though. What about a walking stick with an especially knobbly and heavy head? It would have to be strong enough to not break; perhaps fiberglass or Micarta.

I realize I have an advantage, being a rather large and strong man & have extensive practice using a striking instrument — axe, sledge (falling wedges for falling old growth timber),hammers of all kinds.

Any thoughts on a good weapon for this purpose?

I had a pit bull around for a year. Most of the time, she was a nice dog.
She was gentle and loving with people… but… when she reached a certain state of ‘excitement’…
then all bets were off.

In the end, we didn’t want to let her run free most anywhere… she was not trustworthy with other dogs,
a little bit of excitement and she turned pretty vicious. You could really see that bred-in trait.

Bummer.

I’ve met thousands of dogs. Have yet to meet a mean pit bull.

From what I can tell, the problem isn’t pitbulls, it’s pitbull owners. All the fuckwit tweakers and dope growers and etc want a guard dog, so they get a perfectly nice puppy and beat and starve it until it’s insane. And, since people think pitbulls are worse than other breeds, they often get pitbulls to do this to.

Also, pitbulls only top dangerous breed lists if you intentionally abuse statistics. The vast majority of anti-pitbull crap seems to come from a single source, then copy-and-pasted by websites that don’t actually want to put the time into generating content, just get your clicks. If you look for statistics from other sources, for example (yes, this site is likely biased too), https://www.pitbullinfo.org/dog-bite-statistics.html , when you divide the number of bites by the population of each breed, pitbulls are no longer on top of the list – about a seventh as likely to bite someone as a malamute, for example. In number of bites, there’s more pitbull bites than any other breed each year – but there’s also a lot more pitbulls than those other breeds, as they’re a very common dog. And they’re responsible for an even smaller percentage of bites than the statistics show, because just about anything with a square head gets labeled a pitbull. Any site that claims that being responsible for more bites makes them the most dangerous, by not looking at the relative population of each breed, is intentionally misleading you.

Pit bulls killed 284 people from 2005 and 2017. For a somewhat comparable stat 356 children were killed over 10 years 2009 to 2019 In school shootings. not the same years, or even the same amount of years just making a point. I don’t hear any progressives calling for common sense pit bull control.

Again, pitbulls kill the most people, but there’s also the most pit bulls. If you look at fatal attacks per population of each breed, they are (depending on whose stats you use) 8th-15th or so.

Of course, on the topic of statistics, to go with your comparison, it’s like the people who include suicides in gun homicide figures to grossly inflate them.

And, in cities that have done so, dog attacks have _gone up_. For example, in Toronto, after ten years attacks were up 57%. Because, you know, pit bulls aren’t the problem. And, no, other similar cities did not also experience such increases, showing it’s not just an overall trend.

Sites that claim breed-specific legislation works usually use intentionally wrong measures of working. My favorite is “Banning pit bull type dogs lowered attacks by pit bulls almost 60%!” and similar – note how they used “by pit bulls” to intentionally hide the non-effect on overall attacks.

Bullpucky. Not successfully banning pit bulls is the problem you allege. Bites when up because the law banning them required documenting them universally for the first time. Those who successfully lobbied based on the same “it’s the owners, not the breed” nonsense. Duh! of course it’s the owners. Dogs don’t own themselves. But the problem with Toronto was that they never enforced the law- “The city does not enforce the provincial ban on pit bulls, but prefers to enforce its own bylaw, which requires owners to register their dogs and use leashes.” https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/pit-bull-dog-ontario-ban-animals-breed-legislation-1.4881367

And, if you want to ban specific breeds as being more dangerous than others, you’d want to start with mastiffs, german shepherds, huskies, malamutes, chowchows, and all the other breeds with higher fatal attack rates than pitbulls.

People who pay large sums of money for a dog of a “guarding nature” tend to keep their dogs trained and in check if, for no other reason, they have resources that they can be sued over and they paid a lot for their animals. On the other hand a pit bull is frequently cheap and tend to be owned by people who are not concerned with a well trained dog they invest in. So both sides of the argument is true. Pit bulls are often untrained and unsocialized by their owners, who are more interested in dog for its intimidation value than it’s good nature, and not carefully bred, evaluated and certainly frequently disciplined only by the occasional scream and swat. Bad dogs and bad owners both combine to be an awful menace. Anyone who defends pit bulls by saying Chihuahuas have worse dispositions is a moron. While true, it is immaterial .

[edit] How do we know they are pitbulls??? Any time a bite happens seems like Pitbull gets blamed. Remeber the lady who got malled to death by 2 “pitbulls” in the bay area. Turned out to be canecorso’s. same thing happened in texas and those were rottweilers. ill take a pit over a chow chow rottweiler or shepphard any day. They are gentle souls compared to some they just get alot of blame thats not well deserved

Absolute nonsense. That some other breed kills is no excuse for pit bulls and their irresponsible owners.

Okay, okay. You guys are missing the main point. Yes, many dogs bite, but there are not many dogs that KILL like a pit bull. There’s the mastiff and huskies, but no other dog has been known to do so much damage as a pit. They’re like having a loaded assault rifle that can go off at any time and unexpectedly. How many labs have killed people. Seriously, it’s not even a debate. I’ve lived with many dogs and I never feared them except an old housemates pit. He was “okay” when the owner was home, but when he left you always thought, damn this dog is going to eat me……

There are many dogs that kill like a pitbull. If you look at fatal incidents relative to the number of dogs of a given breed, pitbulls are at the bottom of the top 10. There’s just a whole lot of pitbulls.

About 20% of dogs are pitbulls, per pitbullinfo. Note that you can not use the AKC statistics for this, since they only record purebreds, while the vast majority of pitbull types are mutts – sites that ignore this are being misleading. Rottweilers, the next dog on that list, are less than 1% of the dog population, but, per that list, are 10.4% of fatal attacks. Clearly rottweilers are much more dangerous.

Any statistics that do not present the attacks _relative to the population of that breed_ is not presenting information useful for determining the danger of breeds.

The papers are full of cases after case. If that is because there are so many pit bulls, then it means there are too many pit bulls.

For a person who routinely complains about “conspiracy” sites being a poor authority, you cite (sort of) pitbullinfo.org? Physician, heal thyself. The study cited by that site as showing a lower risk per capita of deaths by pit bull starts off by saying “In contrast to what has been reported in the news media, the data from this study CANNOT be used to infer any breed-specific risk for dog bite fatalities.” The the site goes on to do just that. The findings- “Results—During 1997 and 1998, at least 27 people died
of dog bite attacks (18 in 1997 and 9 in 1998). At least
25 breeds of dogs have been involved in 238 human
DBRF during the past 20 years. Pit bull-type dogs and
Rottweilers were involved in more than half of these
deaths. ”

What this site hung its dubious statement on was the idea that, since there are no official demographics for pit bulls, then if the highest possible population estimate is used the per capita fatality rate for pit bulls is only 7th on the death list, not 1st as when an alternate pit bull popular in estimate is used. Give me a break. That is a sketchier interpretation than the polling that Hillary Clinton used to prove the Russians diddled her out of being president.

No breed kills more than pits.
Every single year since 1850. Growing up, i never heard of a dog related fatality, until pit bulls started infesting everywhere.

I remember in the early 90’s it was all about the Rottweiler. Seemed anyone who was a grower had one. Then people started getting pits about the same time tattoos became trendy. Before 215 you freaking green rushers. Things were cool. Jerry was alive, we were getting $5,000 a pound, FOR OUTDOOR and life was good.

It was my daughter that was attacked by those dogs she had went over there to help the owner of the dogs with a generator that her family had loaned the old man because a breaker had popped on it, and for what ever reason he opened his door and his dogs got out and attacked her and dragged her underneath his trailer and proceeded to tear up her legs, she has had to have one foot so far amputated

This thread of very impassioned comments, some show the kind loving hearts on both sides. But of course the __it stirrers performed like only Humboldt County could. Sometimes you can just see them sitting at there computers an ugly laugh something like Dr. Evil would enjoy. Mumbling about a million dollars and the looking to see was anybody looking. What saddened me was all the energy that went into this thread. Yet when somebody is killed in some Humboldt County way. Not even half the comments and most would be cruel for one who is dead. Lamentating on they deserved what ever tragedy be fell them. What ever happened to if you have nothing nice to say don’t say anything _______!

If no pit bulls, and no pit bull apologists, then the chances of it having to be about a mother with life changing injuries are almost non existent. So yes, it can easily be about pit bulls.

Umm.. yes they are exactly that.. “vicious killers by nature”. That’s exactly what the breed was developed for, there’s no changing it’s genes. No matter how well trained, socialized and loved it is, it doesn’t change the fact that pit bulls were bred to kill.. not guard, attack or protect, but to kill. No other breed has repeatedly done this kind of sick and crazy shit. Only pit bull owners stick up for and make excuses for this breed, which says a lot about the type of people they are.

Some bit of useful training I received I would like to share. I usually do not talk about stuff like this because people will look at me horrified…..but if you get attacked by any animal that has front facing large eyes, including pit bulls. This will save you if you remain calm and remember training.

Fact 1 your going to get bit.
Fact 2 it will be scary and hurt especially when engaged with multiple threats.

Now that we know those 2 facts here is the counter tactics to this.
1) don’t let the near your throat is number 1 rule.
2) do not let them latch on arms. You want them to bite and latch on legs.
3) make sure you keep a center lower to the ground stance for best stability.
4) after they have latched. Take both of your thumbs, and drive them straight into both of the threats eye sockets and pull up like your life depended on it. Because at that moment your life does depended on you staying calm even under pain and stress
5) as you start pulling up you’ll dig with your thumbs. Keep pulling do not kick or you’ll lose your stance.

Any threat will stop pretty damn quick and in the extreme cases it may take a couple mins to have the targets instincts to survive shut of the instinct to kill. This is brutal but it works..seen it work in person, was trained as such, and about 6 years ago used it to defend myself and my then lab puppy.

In that case the owner then tried fighting me told him try it. He called the cops on me, but I still live and so does my dog. This will save your life against any large eyed front facing 4 and 2 legged threats. People need more training on how to defend against evils.

Veterinarian told me once that pitbulls are the nicest breed to own as a owner. The problem is they have a stigma. He also said the vast majority of pitbulls do not attack other dogs unprovoked the problem is once provoked they will always win. He told a story of a elderly lady who brought in a 12 yr old female pitbull to get a small cut stitches after being attacked by two dobermans. Then the owner of the two
younger dobermans brought them in one with a broken leg the other with a ear hanging off.
Point being its not ALWAYS a pitbull that starts the fight but they will most likely finish the fight…He was a fan of pitbulls for their tempermant and loyalty especially to kids. They are great dogs.
I feel for the lady this happened to. its terrible. would like to know for fact if they were actually pitbulls because like other commintaters on here have stated blame is given that is not always deserved. A Mastif/rotty/cane corso/chow chow/sheppard or chiwawa is not a pitbull just because they bite or attack.

And people who think that is a telling story are also the sort of people who announce after the deaths “He never acted like that before.” I know there are many mountain lions who never killed a human. That does not mean that it is ok for my neighbor to keep one without acknowledging the danger.

I’ve been reading these comments and I can’t believe all the comments about the dogs what about the person attacked whom is my best friend.. she has 5 kids devastated by this. She will never be the same after this. This woman went over to help a neighbor and was mauled by his dogs they tore her apart. She is lucky to be alive. I will say this she’s a fighter and whatever obstacles she faces she’s facing with a family who loves her and will be there every step of the way. As for the dogs I don’t care if it’s a pit bull or a poodle. This was a horrible attack by animals who obviously need to be shot. From my understanding this isn’t the first incident of these dogs attacking.

First of all I want to send the lady who was injured my condolences. I really hope she recovers very soon. Also, any dog that attacks like that can’t be trusted not to do it again. Sadly, it’s a lose lose situation. Having said that, a majority of pitty type dogs are great family dogs. I see the cultists of dogsbitedotorg are making their regular idiotic negative comments. They are all over this thread. Dog attacks are not limited to just one type or breed of dog. Chances are as was stated above, these dogs were unneutered, uncared for, isolated, abused animals. Just sad all around.

The pit bull was bred to fight. Dog fighting has been illegal for decades now in the United States and a lot of Pitties have been bred for gentleness since then. Some however still have a strong fighting gene. I have seen both. I have seen some that are perfect gentle family dogs and some that turn into killers so fast no one sees it coming.
Breeding fighting dogs that kill each other is a human creation. In nature wolves do not kill each other with rare exception e.g. a wolf that has gone crazy and is a threat to the pack will be taken out. Dogs don’t normally kill other dogs. Pit bulls were bred to kill other dogs for generations.
I hope this woman is going to be okay

Wolves don’t kill each other? Dogs don’t? Actually they do if the loser in a battle doesn’t (or incapable of) running off. Dogs fight a lot and dogs die from them. Ask any vet about dog bite wounds. They just learn from birth how to surrender.

Dogs are animals. They all bite, some when provoked, some just bite. Good training is essential. But dogs bite. I have a dog. I love her. But when grandbabies are around, I am super aware… probably to the degree that she senses my fear and is more alert. So we put her up. Even the most loving dog may bite, no matter how well they are trained, because it’s an animal. Most importantly, I am so sorry for this woman and her family.
She has a go fund me. Maybe that’s a way to help.

It doesn’t matter the bred, I was attacked by a dog at the age of nine, 40 stitches to my neck and 4 on my shoulder, dogs are unpredictable! Usually if you own a bit bull your home owners will deny coverage if you own one and they injury someone. This was a friend of the family’s dog whom I’d been around before and I did nothing to make him attack me other then open the screen door when they motioned for me to come in ( it was a hot day) and out of know where it happens, the dog was not put down and we did not pursue for injuries. 😔

For every pic you post showing affectionate pits, there is one to show the victims injuries (or death). You do not want to start that tit for tat.
