[UPDATE 3:48 p.m.: Stay Home! Warns SCFD (Photos/Video)] Shelter Cove Road Is Very Snowy, Warns Shelter Cove Fire
Shelter Cove Fire warns today at 1:30 p.m. that two wheel drive vehicles cannot travel safely on Shelter Cove Road because of snow and ice.
“There are cars in the ditch all over between Paradise Ridge and Kings Peak,” reports Cheryl Antony, spokesperson for Shelter Cove Fire. “It’s a mess.”
A local resident told us that they had begun traveling to Whitethorn but had to turn back at Hohstadt’s “because the road was too slick with snow.”
Earlier today, Humboldt County Roads warned that all vehicles traveling Shelter Cove Road, Wilder Ridge Road, Alderpoint Road, and Bell Springs Road should carry chains.
Snow is falling thickly in the hills now and wind is blowing. Please consider not traveling or taking precautions if you must travel.
UPDATE 3:45 p.m.: Shelter Cove Fire Chief Nick Pape advises everyone to stay home unless it is an absolute emergency.

Wet leaves are like ice!
What would we do without you Ms. Kym Kemp? Thank you for keeping us informed along with our community residents like Cheryl Antony.
She is great, but wouldn’t you know by looking out your window that a trip over the hill would be dicey right now?
That, and the fact that there are more non-driving fools assembled in our zip code than should be allowed. Are any of those mouth-breathers in grow dozers eating ditch? Slack jaws can’t drive for shit on a dry, sunny day!
Going somewhere ? Hopefully not. Here’s a good roadmap with cameras/alerts/accidents.

Chains are required on 101 in Mendo county.
There are lots of ‘red’ zones too — vehicles are stopped. North of Laytonville
That’s a handy site. Way better than CalTrans as you can see all DOT cameras, incidents and current conditions across all states.
Glad I live in town (Redway) now. Many. memories of Alderpoint and especially driving over the hill in the snow. I don’t miss that at all.
