[UPDATE 5:51 p.m.] Over 3000 PG&E Customers Without Power in Eureka Area After Tree Falls Into Lines
A tree fell into lines near Three Corners Market east of Eureka this afternoon.
According to the PG&E Outage site, over 3100 customers were without power at 4:45 p.m. A larger number were without power earlier in the afternoon. But power has been restored to the areas east and north of the city.
There is no time of restoration provided yet by PG&E for those still without electricity.
UPDATE 5:51 p.m.: The power has been restored to over 2000 customers. However, over 1000 customers are still without power.

Do we have any word that that tree and that outage are causally related, and not just coincident?
I’ve requested info from PG&E. But…they haven’t gotten back to me. So, short answer no. Longer answer, the timing and the placement make this likely to be the cause.
I was thinking the opposite… Why would a little line (assuming there’s more than just phone lines somewhere in that picture!) way out of town cause a huge outage in the middle of town? I’m not even sure they’re fed from the same substation… and they’re certainly on opposite sides of the one up on mitchell heights.
That isn’t the tree that caused the outage. I called PGE about that tree and that tree is actually on communication lines- not PGE lines.
PG&E still hasn’t called me back so I can’t confirm.
The central Eureka outage was a snapped power line by the High school.
That makes much, much more sense.
Call the cops. There’s going to be all kinds of football fans looking for a TV to watch the game
It looks like a dead tree. Completely preventable.
That was my take as well. After all is said and done, PG&E is still not keeping up with preventative maintenance.
We had a brief outage in Alderpoint sometime around dark – probably 5-10 minutes. Power off, then back on, then off longer. Finally back on, we hope for good It’s dark out here.
