Eureka Mayor Susan Seaman Talks About Needle Exchange, Purple Tier, Inauguration and Student Awards

This is a press release from the City of Eureka:

Hello. I’m Mayor Susan Seaman.  As I’ve shared with you in my previous communications, the City of Eureka is continuing to work tirelessly to support the health and well-being of our citizens, our community, and our economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As this week comes to an end, it does so with our 46th President at the helm. It was a welcome tradition to witness a peaceful transition of power during the inauguration, when so much of this transition has been untraditional. Welcome President Joe Biden and Vice president, Kamala Harris – the first female, black, and south Asian vice president who was also our former Senator from California.

Wednesday was not only a day of ceremony for the President. It was also the day for one of my favorite annual ceremonies hosted by Eureka City Schools, the “Every Student Succeeds” Awards. This event is a heartfelt celebration honoring selected students from every Eureka City School who has overcome some difficulty to stand out among their peers. In a year when every student has had to overcome uncertainty and change, these kids have had that compounded with physical or learning disabilities, behavioral challenges, or personal hardships. They were described by their principals and teachers, not by their challenges, but by their strengths.  They are kind and studious, imaginative, and good leaders. They show up, every day, with a good attitude and ready to work. Congratulations to Jordan from Alice Birney Elementary School, Emily from Eureka High School, Calista from Grant Elementary School, Ariel from Washington School, Brooke from Lafayette Elementary School, Dominic from Winship Middle School, Donovan from Zane Middle School, and Gunner from Zoe Barnum High School. Thank you, also, to my colleagues on the Eureka City Council who attended to show support for these amazing students.

Just a reminder that we are still in the Purple Tier for COVID regulations. We have not seen any pronounced drops in cases per day, locally, and it is important that we continue to remain vigilant as we wait for the vaccines to continue to roll out. It will still take some time. The County is working with local industries and organizations who are in line for the vaccine to send out surveys to determine their schedule. If you have questions about vaccines, you can find more information on the Humboldt County website (humboldtgov.org/2872/vaccine-info). Even after you receive a vaccine, continue to social distance, wash your hands, and wear a mask. While a vaccinated person may be safe from getting the virus, they can still spread it, necessitating continued safety measures.

This week, as an emergency measure in the face of COVID-19, the City Council voted to approve operations for the Humboldt Area Center for Harm Reduction. Needle exchange services will be made available to lessen the gap in harm reduction services for those who need them during a pandemic when they are even more vulnerable. This access will also alleviate the impact on local hospitals and emergency rooms during the pandemic. The plan, as presented by HACHR, was reviewed and approved by the City Council as meeting the requirements laid out by the City in the areas of location, spatial restrictions, hours of operation, personnel, 1:1 exchange, and a credit cap. Though the plan has been approved, some additional actions such as securing permission from some property owners and providing appropriate insurance are required before services can begin. The proposal as presented this week is for an interim plan. The City is currently working on developing a new, more permanent ordinance, which need to go through specific environmental reviews and will take several months to complete.

Again, I’m Mayor Susan Seaman, and I appreciate everybody’s commitment to keeping us healthy. Please continue to practice good habits, wash your hands, wear a mask, and maintain social distancing. Be patient with yourself and kind to your neighbors and family. We’ll talk again soon.

“While a vaccinated person may be safe from getting the virus, they can still spread it, necessitating continued safety measures.”

Dang. So much for the trumpets and rainbows.

The experimental (emergency approved) vaccines are still in trials which are not completed until 2023. Some scientists say it’s gene therapy, and not really a vaccine.

But go for it anyway if you’re in a rush.

Obviously, Susan Seaman, Kim Bergel and Scott Bauer would like to remove “Harm Reduction” from the weekly menu at Council meetings, but those pesky junkies in Eureka just won’t die off fast enough…

Limiting the transmission of potentially fatal diseases is a weekly subject, for Susan Seaman, but we currently , mostly, only seem to want to limit CoV-19, since this disease is the current focus of government, and since it is a disease that affects “nice people too” unlike Hepatitis C, HIV, and other diseases spread from sharing and reusing needles to inject drugs like the Fentanyl tainted Heroin, sold in Eureka…

True “harm reduction” would include safe spaces to live, take the drug of choice, to be referred to services for drug-dependent-disabled, and, to be admitted to detox/rehab in a progressive manner. We know for sure, that Eureka only wants to smash and grab dealers, with their catch and release policing, and we know for sure that the City of Eureka does not care at all about harm reduction, and wishes that the “drug problem” would “just disappear”…

Another week of being admonished by the Mayor, to take care and be well, and this week, we will include the drug-addicted individuals, who we have finally admitted, must be accommodated by the folks trying to save them, HACHR, now that HACHR has been pushed as far out as it could be…

Susan may not like the junkies, but now she finally is wishing them to “be safe”, just like all the other citizens of her twisted reality, there in Eureka!

I’m VMG, Susan, and we’ll talk about you again, real soon…

Injecting drugs is an entirely voluntary choice, unlike being exposed to covid while attempting to lead your life.

You need some education. Google “rat park” and learn something you don’t know 😁

Drug addiction is a Behavioral Health Disorder, addicts are classified as Disabled.

The first one is free, after that, you have a “disability”…

Don’t apologise for your Mayor, this is an embarrassment for her, following her disgraceful treatment of the only agency focused on helping reduce deaths from preventable diseases, as well as deaths from overdose, via the Naloxone trainings.

HACHR is trying to do some good, while the City Council and Mayor Seamans tried as hard as they could to “disable” HACHR. Guess who won?

Life is full of inconveniences, like wars, taxes, accidental death, pesky diseases, and having to earn a living. Get used to it, because life is a pretty short affair…

good reason to avoid that “first one.” Just like not driving drunk even though you have no personal experience with it. Learn from other people’s mistakes. Treating drug addiction like people are helpless against the drugs coming to get them personally absolves addicts from responsibility for not only their current state but also excuses staying there.

I think you’re a vary brave person for putting yourself out there for ridicule Susan. It’s a job I couldn’t do.
I’m not sure why folks are so mean, especially to females with an opinion but it’s mostly snarky little men so please don’t bother yourself

Here’s another comment you won’t like:

If women want to be equal, they should learn to deal with or ignore all criticism. Being female is no excuse for being wrong, or being incompetent.

Also, calling men snarky or little is discriminatory.

Please make a note of it!

Women don’t “want” to be equal. They are equal. They just don’t want to be treated as if they aren’t.

And, Mayor Seaman is not only amoral, she is incompetent and unfit to serve.

Leaving addicts untreated, while attempting to castrate the agency working to help the addicts, and, ceding the city to drugs and crime, these things will choke the life out of Eureka.

Your leaders are the wrong people, their focus is on the wrong things, and their administrations are leading to defeat and despair.

Eureka is a train-wreck, and the Mayor is not helping.

nope, nothing personal there. Completely free from personal prejudice. Totally altruistic. We all know that the miniscule percentage of drug addicts are so much more important than, well, everyone else.
