Loaded Pistol and 1/2 Pound of Meth Found on Suspect, Says EPD’s POP

This is a press release from the Eureka Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Brian Berquist

On January 20, 2021, at about 1:45 p.m., detectives with the Eureka Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing team (POP), served a search warrant for narcotics and firearms on 40-year-old Brian Patrick Berquist of Eureka.

Berquist was driving his vehicle near the 3500 block of Union Street when he was stopped and detained by detectives. Inside his vehicle, detectives located a loaded pistol and a half pound of methamphetamine.

Detectives then served search warrants at two residences that Berquist associates with, one on the 300 block of Highland Avenue and one on the 2700 block of E Street.

During these searches, detectives located an additional 17 grams of methamphetamine.

Berquist was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for possession of methamphetamine for sales, transportation of methamphetamine for sales, and possession of a loaded firearm while in possession of a controlled substance.

Anyone with information on ongoing drug or nuisance issues in the City limits of Eureka is asked to contact the EPD POP team at (707) 441-4073.

This Nimrod is 40 years old? He’s never going to be rehabilitated, he’s a total waste of good oxygen. The only deal I would offer him is either prison for 15-20, or a state facility to be used for medical research purposes.

Yeah because a jail is the perfect place. The reason people do these things is because we send them to jail and create animals. Plus what’s your stance on alcohol it kills and ruins the lives of millions but what it’s legal so drink up. Nonsense jail is just a place they put people so they don’t have to deal with them.

Time to flush garbage down the proverbial toilet…

This is enough meth, etc. to hook every human being in Eureka, and beyond.

Most people would be put to death for this action, in many countries.

The 17 grams is what he cut off the top of the rest. Add a little mannitol or Niacin call it a day. Gotta have some personal STASH. Again another meth bust. How the hell. Seems to be out pacing the weed industry these days.

Well yea

big money is gone from pot so now the growers changed to a different product. What did you expect the growers would get legal jobs? Nope not going to happen for the most part.

Another 1,000 time arrestee. Same stuff over and over. Stop being lax on criminals if the prison system isn’t going to change. We’re not Norway or Sweden, with a small population and the structure to change criminals at this time. Put them in prison for a long time.

Kym, do you have anything about the EPD arrest of repeat offender Braylan Lanier yesterday? Among the long list of charges was a PC664/187(a) (attempted murder). Sure seems like the kind of thing they’d normally put out a press statement on.

nevermind, found it.

https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2021/jan/22/eureka-man-arrested-connection-last-weeks-shooting/

I’ve been tracking Braylan Lanier since he was a teenager. It was distressing to see he’d been released again last fall. I knew it was only a matter of time before he put a bullet into somebody. Thankfully it appears his victim survived several gunshot wounds and it’s unlikely Lanier will be on the street again for a very, very long time.
