Person in Their Fifties Dead and 36 New Cases of COVID-19

Press release from the Humboldt County Joint Information Center:

Covid purple Tier

A Humboldt County resident has died with COVID-19, and 36 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today. One previously recorded case was incorrectly reported as positive due to a lab error and another was determined to be a duplicate, so the total number of county residents who have tested positive is 2,427.

The individual who died was in their 50s. Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman extends his sympathies to all families who have been impacted by the virus, and he noted that this loss hit particularly close to home because of the strong connection his family had with the person who died. “We should all do our part to limit additional infections from COVID-19 and hopefully prevent further loss of life from this virus until the vaccine is more widely available,” he said.

Dr. Hoffman added that the batch of Moderna vaccine that was paused for distribution by the state is still under investigation by the California Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the manufacturer.

Dr. Hoffman said that while this pause has delayed administration of a significant number of doses allocated to Humboldt County, efforts to build local capacity for vaccinations continue.

Covid vaccination

Emergency Services Manager Ryan Derby conducts a mass swear-in of 19 volunteer vaccinators for the county, Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021.

On Tuesday, 19 additional Disaster Service Workers were sworn in as volunteer vaccinators, for a total of 40 over the last week. “This pandemic has impacted all of us, and it will take all of us to get out of it,” Dr. Hoffman said. “I’d like to give my heartfelt thanks to all these volunteers who have stepped up to respond to the community’s need.”

Volunteers are still needed. Those interested in volunteering can call the Community Information Line at 707-441-5000 or email [email protected] for more information.

I sure hope them Dems legalize cannabis while they got control. Enough Republicans would vote to overcome any filibuster. It could be done in a week.

The money saved on not having to defend all the fed v state lawsuits, and law inforcement money, legalizing it on the fed level is just as important, or more so, depending on how they do it.

I have not heard of anybody actually dying unless they were very old or had other serious health problems. I’m not trying to be cruel…I’m not saying anybody deserves to die. I’m just stating that I would like to know the particulars instead of just the age and the ever-present suggestion that we should all be very very concerned because “it could be anybody- even you”. I’ve known a bunch of people who got sick w/covid and this flu is not a walk in the park, it sucks and I don’t want to get it. But…I’m not sure there are more unexpected deaths of able-bodied healthy people than a normal flu season. And the always incomplete information seems to push a narrative rather than inform us all. I get where the conspiracy people are coming from. When everything relevant is hid behind HIPAA then how do we the people learn anything? Just trust the authorities- is that the answer? I have seen enough bullshit to not want that and to instead ask for more information…My sympathies to the suffering- I do not want to imply that there are none or that their suffering is not worthy of sympathy. My concern is with the continued lack of relevant and important information being given to the public…It makes me suspicious of the narrative.

Possibly this death of a person in his 50s was Esteban, who was 55 when he died last Tuesday, Jan. 12. (There’s a good write-up of his life story on LoCO this evening.) There were 24 reported Humboldt Covid deaths as of last Tuesday, and the first one added since then is today, the “person in their 50s,” the 25th death. LoCO says Esteban Gonzalez died of pneumonia, possible Covid. I guess they couldn’t get the information from the County as to whether his was the “death with Covid” reported today.

Laura- thank you. Yes- I see that now. Esteban was a good man and only a little younger than me. I do want to know more details about how his health was lately- in regards to all the covid panic messaging. I’m sorry to hear it was the honorable and hard-working Esteban.

From what I’ve read high blood pressure and diabetes are some of the most dangerous pre-conditions. More dangerous than smoking. Lots of otherwise healthy people have high blood pressure. The virus can have a tendency with high blood pressure to coagulate blood and cause blood clots.

One of the things I fall back on @the vaccinations (with so much confusing info, ) is who the role models are. Of course, all the ppl they show & talk to on the news, as they get vaccinated, could be staged/fake, but my b.s. detector registers sincerity. So, I’m getting vaccinated! Drs, even President Joe, nurses- they all volunteered to let us see them taking “the jab”. I know my old school parents wldve done it without question, just as they put us out there for the very first Polio vaccine in the 50s. It’s interesting that now we are on the first rounds to receive this vaccine. Brave new world, for sure.
But, I also agree that more details on younger ppl who die from Covid wld be good to know.

Go to the Johns Hopkins site and the CDC site. If you rummage around on the sites you will find deaths by age group. Also, check the states sites. Much of the information you need is out there from reputable sources. 400,000 people in the US dead is more than the average 80,000 a year from flu, 5 times the rate of flu. You won’t find many unemployed undertakers or grave diggers.

80,000 is actually on the high end for average yearly deaths. 2018-2019 was the worst flu season in a long time.

Still using that 400k figure?

You might recall from other comments that:

“All deaths involving covid 19” Per the cdc. “involving” is important.

If you succumbed to pneumonia but tested positive (with a mostly inaccurate rtPCR test), you would be one of those 400k.

Roughly 20k have died strictly from covid in the u.s in since March 2020.

Your not helping ‘4Trinity’. You are trying to make this Covid thing a conspiracy, trying to make it not so bad. FyI if you get Covid your lungs can fill with mucus and technology that’s pneumonia. But the Covid is what killed you… Stop messing with others by giving miss information… 👎

Because you say so? You might consider looking at the definition of conspiracy, dodge. It’s a bit worn. Try “quack”, it could mean anything.

I think questions need to be asked. Not sorry that you don’t. 🐏

You’re not “asking questions,” you’re repeating the accusation that there are all these false positives… So where are all the extra pnuemonia deaths coming from? I’ve asked you this question easily 20 times.

If there are so many false positives, where did all the extra pneumonia deaths in 2020 come from?

Russia and China were barely-industrialized monarchies at the time of their respective revolutions. Their revolutions were fought by bandit warlords and labor unions, against their respective monarchies. The monarchies were insuffenciently armed and lacked the nessissary manufacturing infastructure to properly equip troops.

I don’t see a whole lot of parallels here.

I don’t understand what they’re being “sworn in” for? As vaccinators? Is this some normal practice I wasn’t aware of?

Got logic ?

Very strange.

An injection certification class is the typical path .

Are they bypassing the certification?

Or are these people that all happen to hold certifications ?

And then, to what and who, are they swearing ?

Very strange indeed.

Also, for those who’d like to know: currently 1924 people have recovered as well leaving 503 “active” cases in HumCo. Also, without the specific numbers we can only guess at how many are still hospitalized. Pure speculation: if 1924/2427 have recovered, that’s nearly 80% so we can guess that maybe 60-90% of hospitalized folks have recovered leaving 10-40% still hospitalized or somewhere from 8-32 people hospitalized. In case anyone from the county health team is reading this, it would also be useful to know if they 25 deaths are included in the 82 hospitalizations, just so people have a true picture of what’s going on. It would also be great to know what info they use to say someone has “recovered”.

Dems are now demanding more than equal opportunity – now they expect equal outcomes. Shouldn’t everyone get the identical participation trophy just for trying?

I think we have to level-set expectations,” added Tom Frieden, the former director for the Centers for Disease Control in the Obama administration. “There are lots of things that an incoming administration can do on Day One, including speaking honestly about the pandemic.”

The new administration is already behind, in part because the Trump administration was unprecedentedly hostile during the transition. The question now, however, is how Biden can get a handle on a raging pandemic when his team is already so far behind.

The task at hand is enormous. More than 400,000 Americans have died of COVID-19. Every state, territory and the District of Columbia is in a state of emergency. The number of people infected with the virus who are now hospitalized is more than double the number reached during the spring and summer peaks.

That is 380,000 errors you made in 2 sentences.

Did Sean Connery die with old age and pneumonia but from atrial fibrilation?

Or was it that he died with atrial fibrillation but from old age and pneumonia?

You are no doctor.
You are no coroner.
You are no professional, asking us to do your research.

I liked “quack” better trb.

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying. Or asking about Connery. I have no idea how he died.

Heck of a Bond though.

I thought we have already played with numbers. Many times.

But again, per cdc: ” All deaths involving covid 19″. Not “died from” but “involving”.

Again, (whew) per cdc “6% died strictly from covid 19.”

Will it sink in a little this time? No conspiracy needed.

Unless it’s a bullet in the brain, most people die from comorbidities.

So what did Sean die from?

Death certificate available above.
