How about paying people $20 a cord to do dead fuel reduction on USDA lands. The firewood cutters are doing a public service by reducing dead fuels on PUBLIC land. You guys need to get your priorities straight. OBVIOUSLY reducing dead fuels helps reduce wildfire intensity. It’s not about extracting every dime you can from the people. People are sick and tired of Gov Vulture Culture, and Forest Service mismanagement.

If the goal is fuel reduction why are whole swaths cut off from removing firewood? If you look on (at least older) firewood maps, the entire corridor along 36 around Forrest Glen that exploded this summer and took out Ruth lake and Hettenshaw has been excluded from firewood cutting for several years. The entire 8 miles from 36 to my place and beyond is excluded as well.
