21-Year-Old Dies in Crash on 299 Today

TC chp fatalPress release from the CHP:

On 01/18/2021 at approximately 8:10 am, Nicholas Utne was driving a Ford pickup westbound on SR-299 entering a right curve in the roadway. At the same time, Korson Coulter was driving a Chevrolet pickup eastbound SR-299 approaching a left curve in the roadway. For reasons still under investigation, Utne diverted his attention from the roadway allowing the Ford pickup to drift from the westbound lane and into the eastbound lane, directly into the path of Coulter. The vehicles collided head on. The impact caused the Chevrolet pickup to leave the roadway and descending down a dirt embankment. The Ford pickup continued in a southwest direction and came to rest on its wheels blocking the eastbound lane of SR-299. Korson Coulter sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. Nicholas Utne claimed to be uninjured. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.

The California Highway Patrol would like to remind drivers that even a second of inattention while operating a motor vehicle can have deadly consequences.

So Utne has a lot of explaining to do to the authorities for vehicular manslaughter charges hanging over his head. Texting???? Going too fast???? We all hope to find out more info as it comes forward(?). So sorry for a young 21 year old to perish under any circumstance.

I wouldn’t say everyone hopes to find out more. First off the article already says what happened, second off if your not the victims family or friend then it doesn’t concern you and its non of your business.

Of course it concerns anyone who has ever been on the road. They might be next. Knowing what happened is an ever needed reminded to all not to do the same thing.

Yes! for the love of anything compassionate! Please drag whomever survived this accident before us, that we may advise them, the guilt they are feeling will never be enough. I will never feel complete without severe adjectival phrasings what describes the chastising.
Some people like to rub one out to an attractive member of the attracting sex.
Some just really get off on the sadness of others.
Nothing is more perverted than that.

When you get I to a vehicle you have a responsibility to KEEP IT IN YOUR LANE. So sick of these terrible aggressive drivers in truck driving too fast and taking ALL of the road as if they are the only driver. And I mean you reader you know who you are and you do this all the time. I cannot count the number of close calls on 299 and 36 I have had as a result of BIG trucks hogging the roadway and driving recklessly. This is not some fucking video game. This is real life. Put down your gol damn phones, stop scratching your balls and put both hands on the wheel! Driving is a priveledge. Treat it such.

This was an accident between two pickups, wondering what it has to do with your comment about trucks. There are relative few truck accidents, and when there is a truck accident it usually has to do with another automobile causing the accident. So very sorry for the loss of this young man.

I have to ask, how can they declare no drugs, we know that could only be determined by a drug test. The fact that there was a death should demand it. No subjective determination could determine that.

That said I hope his family and friends can find some peace after this tragedy.
