On January 14, Hwy 36 was shut down for a substantial amount of time one mile west of Dinsmore in Humboldt County after a slide in that area poured over the roadway.

Though the road has been reopened for several days, these images show the scope of the problem.

Is this a mercer error to extend the highway job another year over budget 😂

Nope, they have no say in it. The mountain is in charge here… The just were thrilled to finally be out of here – and now they are contact employees on this specific job again!

I believe tacos point is that this was totally predictable to the locals and so had to have been predicted by the pencil pushers at mercer Fraser. Good point! Mercer Fraser and Caltrans are either totally corrupt or totally inept. I’d wager they are both. Just open your eyes and pay attention, their employees know that they are all milking the taxpayers.

I know it is Federally funded. Drive by the construction anytime you want and you will see caltrans and mercer Fraser doing the work.

Couple of choppers going over this morning from east to west sounds like…for all the chopper fans out there. Kym should be hearing them about now

Heard them cruising the Eel River Valley yesterday. North to South. Had a moment of flashback to the 80s, if you know what I mean.

Just wait until Biden does federal “legalization” under FDA regulations. There will be more satellites and choppers than ever as they clean out the competition. Not good times ahead…Get in your last couple good years now

They couldn’t get everyone at the height of prohibition with the Nation Guard helping. I think you are greatly overestimating how many cops there are.

Dang you just can’t stop, can you? Do you just sit around all day waiting to comment and throw politics into every story you see? Sounds like someone really needs to get a life!

Very glad the road is open. Thank you to all the workers for clearing away they slide. Looks to me like more will come down in a heavy rain. I guess we should buy bucket loaders to drive 36 in the winter.

As unstable as the mountains are along 36 (similar but not as rugged as 299) slides and slippage are not uncommon. Now that it is widened this area will be active for a while, I bet, until it all settles. In 100 years or so, lol.
Thanks to all the folks who work to keep the Hwy open… you have your work cut out for you.
