Rumbling? Explosion? Did You Hear This?

Ka-boom

Two different areas with multiple residents are reporting hearing something they describe as rumblings or explosions. The first reports came from the Ruth Lake area about 12:50 p.m.

One person described hearing two “huge rumbles happen with in seconds of each other…like a mountain falling.”

Then, residents in Salmon Creek, which is roughly 20 miles due west of there began reporting about 1 p.m. that they also had heard what sounded like a loud explosion. It isn’t clear if they heard the noise at the same time as the Ruth Lake residents but reported at slightly different times.

Anyone have a similar experience?

I heard them. We live 3 miles west of Garberville between Sprowl Creek & Old Briceland Rd. We were walking to our spring to check our flow when I heard a rumbling noise, like a low explosion. There was a second one after that sounded just like the first one. I stopped & waited for the ground to move & I was happy it didn’t. It was exactly the same time as you report the others.

Could it be someone shooting tannerite containers? Shooting a small container of tannerite will shake neighbors houses for miles. Tannerite is a binary exploding target. A container of powder that explodes when a bullet hits it.

Guest, just be glad you did not have beans with those game hens. You probably would not have any doors or windows left. Where ever thy be, left the wind be free!

Been hearing lots of non-conmercial planes near whale gulch/cove, esp at nite.
We are officially in the navys allowed yraining area, they could be testing sonic boom stuff. A few of the planes sounded like rumbling thunder.

I heard the booms out on Early Ranch in Salmon Creek. Sounded odd. Towards the south west I think. Not sure. I was outside doing something otherwise I wouldn’t have heard it at all. It was a large boom. Yeah two of them.

We felt it at 12:48pm ~ a low boom rumble which immediately shook the house like a minor earthquake. It was the shaking and the muffledness of the sound that got my attention (I’m used to hearing the occasional booms that are loud but not earthshaking). We’re in Ettersburg close to river. Only experienced one. Since it was so widespread I’m also thinking perhaps a sonic boom?
Any more leads on this?

Back in 1982 I was a powder man for a local road building company. Once we were told by the head ranger in six rivers forest that they could see every shot on a seismograph. They can even pinpoint where the explosion was

I worked for Six Rivers NF for over 30 years. They have no seismographs on the Forest at all and never have. Not one.

Years ago, in the 1980’s, we were on the aviation training path for military flight training and experienced sonic booms. My mom contacted them (Navy?, Air Force?) and said they would be liable for the structural damage caused, and they stopped!

I looked up at the cloudy sky for a low flying jet ? Rumble was very strange for sure. Benbow / Reid Mountain area –

Maybe someone fired up a 10000kw for a new 1000000 lighter – ML2 under 1.0 😜

Considering the wide area it was heard from, I’d guess meteorites as well, but..
Fron near Heartwood it sounded like it was coming from the east and slightly south. I was sitting outside, heard a sharp double boom like sonic boom from aircraft, then a muffled group of rolling rumbles with some impressive low frequency component that was felt as much as heard.
I’d like to hear what people east and south of us heard as well.
Probably was a meteorite that broke up as it entered the atmosphere.

Interesting side note:

Meteoroids are called meteoroids when they are little bitty pieces of rock circulating in the ether of space. They become meteors when they hit the atmosphere at 20,0000 to 90.0000 miles per hour, at which time they give off a meteoric display of light. They become meteorites when they actually hit the planet.

Asteroids are a different matter When they enter the atmosphere they are called Uh-oh!

Seems like there are quite a few unexplained explosions in this area off and on.

I live in Brooklyn New York and we had the same thing happen here last night (Friday, Jan. 16, 2021). These sonic booms are happening just about everywhere. I wish I knew the reason. It was pretty scary and there were 3 booms seconds apart with flashes of light.

There was a loud boom at 1:50 am this morning in Orland, CA. It shook my house. I woke my husband and asked him about it but he didn’t hear or feel anything. It scared me!

I just had the same thing here in Iowa 6 am April 2nd.
Except my house DID rattle at the end.
I also smell…sulfur?
It was a craft for sure! Couldn’t see it though but the noise was the same – low on coming rumble, loud sound and then quick fade. Nothing like I’ve heard but something was moving too fast!
New space tech??
