Local Cannabis Businesses Pony up Over $4K to Support Food For People Drive

Cannabis supporting Food for People

A number of Humboldt County cannabis businesses came together this month to donate $4,100 to the local food bank Food For People.

Ice Box Flat Farms COO Pat Andrews spearheaded the effort along with Ashlee Aronson, part owner of Three Creeks Farms and Eureka Distribution. In addition to ponying up funds from their own businesses, they successfully solicited contributions from 12/12 Distribution, Honeydew Valley Farms, Xotic Flavorz and The Humboldt County’s Own (nutrient company).

“Essentially I just wanted to give back to my community,” Aronson said when reached for comment on her fundraising efforts. “I felt fortunate to be a part of an essential business and [to be able to] continue working.” She also said a few other farms contributed donations anonymously.

Andrews echoed Aronson’s sentiment of feeling fortunate about being deemed essential and being able to continue to operate. “We know that other people in Humboldt are having a hard time right now, and we wanted to come forward and ease the burden, to make sure that people have enough.”

“The cannabis industry in Humboldt County is alive, is here,” he added, “and we are doing our part to be productive members of the community.”

County Supervisor Rex Bohn had tipped Andrews off about the countywide effort going to raise funds for Food For People this holiday season, as they have been working together over the last few years on community projects.

“This season we wanted to expand a little and get some other people involved,” Bohn said via text message. “Humboldt County folks are generous by nature. It was great to see the Humboldt County cannabis industry step up.”

Andrews says he and his fellow business people want to keep this philanthropic train rolling, and he hopes to see a more structured group of businesses coalesce around future opportunities, a charitable coalition of cannabis businesses. “We were really happy to see the amount of people that wanted to be involved in this,” he told us. “I’d like to try to keep this going. We got a really good response.”

Food For People is doing a number of food distribution events throughout the month of December and right on into the new year. Information on their distribution schedule and locations can be found here.

$4000 dollars donated collectively by 8 different farms plus the ones not mentioned (anonymous). Like wow that’s so generous of them…$500 is not even donating a single pound. Wtf?
Lol must be tuff snitching on your black market competitors and getting a gold star for farting $500 Into the community Lol

Their membership to HCGA cost more per farm than they donated.

Apparently we all feel the same for once. $4100 is an embarrassing donation from these farms. We all know what the price is at and we can check square footage too and do some rough math… Anyway, legal weed is a mess and one of the few things these farms can do to show they really care about the community is donate money. Listen up growers: the community is upset about how you treat your land, neighbors, etc. Give back proportionally to what you take and you will get the respect you deserve.

True. They actually did something and I haven’t donated anything. That said, some of these people spend more on their dog treats than they donated and that’s fine. I guess knowing how much money they make vs what they donated, it makes it seem silly this was news worthy.

It seems strange to me that people are so negative about it. I am sure that most of these people did not help at all and did not use their forces in this. It is very foolish to say that someone who has money could donate more times they have money. But also do not forget that no one is obliged to do charity work. Whatever company it is, it’s cool that they donated money! It seems to me that such actions should always bring positive to the masses, and not negative.
