Property Taxes Due for Humboldt County

Humboldt County Seal 2017Press release from the County of Humboldt:

Property taxes are due now! Take a moment today and pay.

  • Pay by personal check, money order, or cashier’s check. Payments for the first installment are considered timely if they are postmarked by December 10, 2020.
  • E-Checks are free.
  • Online payments involve processing by private companies so there is a service fee charged by these outside contractors (not by the County).
  • Credit card fess = 2.38% of the payment
  • Debit card fees = $ 4.95 (flat fee)
  • Bank Bill Pay Checks: Make sure you follow your banks payment processing guidelines because many say to expect a 5-day delay.
  • Drop payments in the secure property tax boxes inside the Courthouse: These boxes are before the security checkpoints at the 4th and 5th Street entrances in which payments may be dropped off but the Courthouse closes at 5 pm.
  • The Treasurer-Tax Collectors Office is open to the public, but we follow COVID protocols so be prepared to wait if you decide to pay in person. Masks and social distancing are required!
  • Late property tax payments result in a 10% penalty

If you have questions please look at your tax bill – front and back – or check out the website https://humboldtgov.org/260/Treasurer—Tax-Collector because almost all answers can be found in one of these two places. If you don’t find the answer then call us at 707-476-2450.

Humboldt county isn’t a first world country.

We do like to pretend though that we’re part of a first-world country.

That’s a fundamental misunderstanding of what taxes do.

There is no longer a “Republican Party”. It’s the Trumplican Party now. The Republican Party handed their Party over to a Criminal Crime family.

I think you should look at the biden family. They are the biggest corrupt family second to clinton. Democratic are the enemy of the people. In order to save our country we have got to take all of these crooked scum bag to GIZMO

Let’s see, education, roads, parks, law enforcement, fire protection, health and safety, code enforcement, environmental protection, etc. Someone has to pay for it.

County taxes make a lot more sense than Federal taxes — those we get a far smaller return on our investment here in California than in other states.

The bulk of taxes in Humboldt County go to Health and Human services, almost half. Then Infrastructure and Public Safety.

That is why accountability is so important. County taxes are a fraction of the total taxes we pay. But they have the most visible impact on our daily lives. It’s easy to pay attention to the trillion dollar federal budgets or the billions in state budgets. Not so much the millions we spend on local government.

Did you know Humboldt county has the budget posted online?

You can spend as much or as little time as you want looking at it. And if you have questions you can email, call, or write a county supervisor.

As opposed to after Christmas when they’ve got tons of credit card bills from holiday over-spending?

Are they busting in Alderpoint or beyond somewhere? Big black and white sheriff truck came by on Alderpoint rd. hauling a bobcat.

Try living way out in the mountains, maintain your own road, pay for all your own medical bills and if your house burns down, have enough savings to rebuild it. Don’t work for anyone. Teach your children to read and write. Save enough for your retirement. Then you can bitch about taxes.
