44 New Cases Reported Today, December 3

Press release from Humboldt County COVID19 – Joint Information Center:

Covid purple Tier

A total of 993 county residents have tested positive for COVID-19, after 44 additional cases were reported today. This marks the highest single day case report since the pandemic began, breaking a record set only yesterday.

Humboldt County Deputy Health Officer Dr. Josh Ennis said, “Forty-four cases is obviously the highest daily report we’ve seen to date, and at this point in the pandemic, we know that hospitalizations and deaths follow weeks behind,” Dr. Ennis said. He added that hospital capacity is not a concern today, but he cautioned that the county may have to rely on its own resources to get through this next period of the pandemic.

“We are just now seeing hospitalizations tick up in the past week after our own surge in cases started approximately four weeks ago. COVID case rates are high in almost every county in the state, so it’s unlikely that our county will have access to outside resources,” he said. “We have to do everything we can as individuals and as a community to protect each other and prevent our health care system from being overwhelmed.”

Ain’t seen nothing yet. The Thanksgiving surge should start showing up on top of this exponential growth curve.

Kym, this article needs a Covid-19 tag.

I’m sure there will be a surge from thanksgiving. Most of these 44 cases are from a care home in eureka that have 30+ patients with covid. The company has next day results so I’m sure they will have more cases.

At some point I would think the county should start sharing some of the things they are learning from their contact tracing. They don’t have to be specific but if they have clusters of say five or more cases from an event then tell us. If it’s a wedding say so. They don’t have to name the people but they could say “hey we had five cases that seem to have come from this one wedding, funeral or party.

Yes I’ve been saying this also. Some other counties are doing it. I believe it is very helpful information that the public deserves to know. However…Humboldt County hides behind a very large interpretation of HIPAA. By doing this they restrict the public’s right to know valuable information in a pandemic by pretending to shield patients’ privacy rights. IMO it downplays the seriousness of the pandemic…it makes the seriousness of the situation appear less serious. And their resulting message of “just believe us that it’s everywhere equally” makes people actually pay less attention. I think they have a real messaging problem because they don’t understand how people process information and anxiety. IMO they are blowing it big time…

Just read it on the Times Standard my heart goes out to the staff, residents and their families at Granada. I hope this does not result in more deaths.

Yeah…. remember “everybody is going to know at least two people killed by corona”….”3 percent death rate”….why do you still listen to the techno-fascist media?
They are proven liers! Over and over again!

End section 230!

If this is really just the beginning of the flu season surge, at this rate considering the population density and ruralness of Humboldt Co, we may reach herd immunity in no time. Just kidding of course.

Awhile ago I said it would be interesting to see how this thing spread in a graphic form in this third wave. It initially shot up from the southern states into the upper midwest and then like a wave breaking on a seawall sent another wave heading for the west coast and now its arriving, but just starting. Well, someone has done it here. Check it out. I hope they keep updating it as time progresses.

That graphic is the reason why I follow what happens in other places like the south and midwest. This baby comes in waves, actual waves of spread. If Washington has an outbreak that then moves into Oregon its coming here next. Our ruralness no longer matters.

At the end of the graphic it shows the west coast just starting to light up. That puts almost a month behind the midwest, and that means that there is the potential for a continued and increasing surge. Its important to know. Its also why the mink infestation in Oregon is important to follow. We are no longer talking Europe, but our neighbor. If it makes the jump to humans we need to take extra serious measures to make sure any mutations stay north and don’t get here. We are fighting an invisible enemy that we’ve never had to fight before.

ON EDIT; So far concerning the Oregon mink outbreak, the state is keeping everything secret. (Wisconsin, Utah and Michigan have also had outbreaks on mink farms.) The Center for Biological Diversity has demanded this info be released and stated the following;

“In the nightmare scenario of a mutated form of the virus being transmitted, contact tracers and other public health officials would desperately need information about whether the workers at the mink operation have been in contact with people involved in other workplace outbreaks,” the group wrote.

What we do know is that the farms are under quarantine and testing and it initially spread from humans to mink but that’s it.

Really. Wow only 30 days after the election!! That Rudy fraud hotline must really be paying off. Let me guess all the fraud happened in 6 states only. Still waiting for Powell to release the “kraken”. She better hurry only 11 days till the electoral college meets.

Why did it take so long to figure out 29 seniors in the same facility have COVID-19? Apparently only one showed symptoms, or was it just a precautionary test that turned out positive, I mean negative. No wonder no one knew it was here in December of 2019.

It took so long because we as citizens think it’s news worthy when Granada would rather keep it quite. This was a huge outbreak i think it’s very news worthy. The staff I’m sure are trying to do there best with the short staffing and trying times.

I staff let’s hope no more as the residents are counting on them for their care. Let’s hope the residents are not going to succumb to this virus.

Update the daskboard stats every day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Don’t purposely deny your responsibility and only do it every 7-9 days. This is unacceptable.
