Boom! What was that?
One heck of a loud boom just shook Redway about 7:45 p.m. Multiple readers reported hearing a large explosion. One described it as west of Redway. Another said they heard it near Benbow.
Anyone got an explanation?

“Anyone got an explanation?” Alcohol + people with too much spare time?
That was just the door slamming on our freedoms.
Beer, cigarettes, guns and bombs.
Space X put out a sonic boom warning, but that was down south
Could they be sonic booms? Up here in Oregon, we used to get them when military jets would fly over, along the coast. Haven’t seen them all that much recently though.
The only huge boom I have ever experienced (besides when the dynamite plant exploded 20 miles away from us in Missouri) was what was then (35 or more years ago) a very, very rare thunder clap. It didn’t rumble, it was just a gigantic boom.
The weather has changed enough that thunder isn’t that unusual anymore. But still nothing like that one.
But, I guess they would be accompanied by lightening, though.
The comments are gone for some bullshit reason. Thanks for nothin,’ Loco.https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2014/jun/26/mystery-superboom-rattles-wide-swath-eureka-cutten/
Saw a FULL ON U.F.O four hours before this happened. (see below) Hovering about 500 feet above Myrtle Ave. Myrtle and Lucas. A woman named Lori, traveling with her mother, in a four door, late eighties, early nineties, Honda Accord, pulled over and recorded it with her phone. Wish I could find her! No joke! https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2014/apr/28/oh-our-first-boom-alleged-video-evidence-sure-vide/
This was in 2014?
Yes it was, Kym. I’ll never forget that night, as long as I live!

A good guess, anyway.
I let the Ole one-eyed snake loose. Sorry, it can make a lot of racket when it hits the ground.
Is this a let’s help the cops pin point shit post?
The well-documented “Eureka Kabooms” have migrated south, apparently.
Those of us who have experienced this “phenomenon” already know exactly what is happening – the only question is who is responsible.
(Side note: LoCo decided, in their infinite wisdom, to cease and desist reporting on this “phenomenon” some years ago, despite their prior support and many multiple publications of this story over the last 10+ years.)
I suspect the Eureka boomers started to chill when they accidentally got a detonation near ground level that blew their cover. Word was that people felt a shock wave. Haven’t heard from that crew since.
Spoke too soon. 9:10 PM, BOOM!
In Redway… that sounded like a very large tree falling down by the river, south of the bridge.
🕯🌳Wow know ones reported one of these in a while. 🖖🖖
When Don Genaro de Flores farts, the mountains rumble!
Redway has many local clowns who, while on various drugs, are known to set off explosives in the canyons North of Redway Beach, for a moment’s entertainment…
I heard these over a period of years, usually around the Holidays, but sometimes randomly, while living in Lower Redway.
I hope nobody was injured, and my ears are still ringing, from living in this normally very quiet place.
I agree with Screwed Sideways.. (guess we must be neighbors in lower redway..) I’ve been listening to those clowns for years. They tend to make a series of explosions with audible hails of rock and gravel, and you can also hear them wooping and hollering like morons.
This was different. It was one single, deep, resonant, reverberating kind of boom.
if it wasn’t a very big tree going down, maybe a propane tank exploding?
Always soak your beans overnight before cooking.
That was a big explosion!
Was thinking about this and the fault lines (geologic) came to mind. Was looking it up this morning and came across this:
https://www.wnpr.org/post/loud-booms-caused-microearthquakes-seismologist-says
“The U.S. Geological Survey says it recorded a 2.1 magnitude earthquake in Connecticut last Friday. According to Groton’s Office of Emergency Management, that explains the mysterious loud booms that perplexed several residents over the weekend.
Joe Sastre is the Emergency Management Director for Groton. He says the town fielded a number of 911 calls on Friday with people reporting booming noises. “We were getting, ‘I heard an explosion. Something blew up. But I don’t see any smoke. I don’t see any fires. I don’t see any flames,'” Sastre said…….”
