Two New Cases of COVID-19, State Updates Guidance on Rallies and Protest Gatherings to Require Face Coverings

A young woman listens to speakers while wearing a mask that states, "I can't breathe." Both the dying words of George Floyd and the complaint of many who don't want to follow Public Health Orders to wear masks.

A young woman listens to speakers at a protest in Arcata on June 1 while wearing a mask that states, “I can’t breathe.” Both the dying words of George Floyd and the complaint of many who don’t want to follow Public Health Orders to wear masks.

Press release from Humboldt County COVID19 – Joint Information Center:

Humboldt County’s confirmed COVID-19 case count now stands at 571, after two new cases were reported today.

In related news, the California Department of Public Health updated its Stay Home Q&A website, which reflects state orders. The changes clarify that political rallies are subject to the same rules as political protests, and face coverings are required at both.

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich supported the updated guidance, saying that whenever members of different households are brought together, the risk of COVID-19 transmission increases. “It is incredibly important that we work to keep each other safe in every setting. Use of facial coverings, distancing and all of the prevention measures we have talked about have helped Humboldt County keep its positivity and case rates lower than most areas of the state,” the doctor said.

There are specific requirements for indoor and outdoor protests and rallies which may be found on the Stay Home Q&A site. Anyone organizing or planning on attending an event should review the directives carefully to keep themselves and others safe.

Rules without enforcement are just suggestions. There is no enforcement of any of these health order rules on private citizens, kinda like humboldt does with drug laws and theft. So really, if they’re all just suggestions, maybe they’d get better results if they asked nicely.

For all of you who haven’t got a clue about whats going on, some news. England right now is heading towards national, not regional lockdowns, even though they vowed never to do that again, as they are now past even their worst case scenarios. Infection rates are rising rapidly, with estimates suggesting up to 100,000 people a day may be catching the virus. Across the Channel, France has admitted its regional approach is not working, by announcing a new national lockdown. Germany, to a lesser extent, is also planning one. Numerous other EU countries are in lockdown or close. And its heading this way and getting closer. For a second day Oregon has climbed to new record highs in cases of the coronavirus. Hope some of the narrow minds out there finally get it. All of us are up shit creek if they don’t. We can still save California.

Good article from Vox
https://www.vox.com/21541967/covid-19-record-cases-us-coronavirus-winter-spike-surge

“The United States has reached a new terrible milestone in the Covid-19 pandemic. This past week, the country saw, on average, 75,561 new cases per day — the highest on record in a pandemic full of atrocious records. On Thursday, 89,000 Americans received a positive test result.

From north to south, east to west, the virus is spreading uncontrolled again. This is not a peak. We’re in the midst of a climb. Next week, we can expect yet another record: leaping from more than 9 million total cases to 10 million cases in a matter of a few days. The number of people in hospitals across the country is ascending, too, hitting 46,000 on Thursday. And this will likely be followed by rising numbers of deaths in the coming weeks. Why? Because this is the pattern we’ve seen in every Covid-19 surge during the pandemic. It’s not going to change now. There’s a momentum to this virus.”

While part of the increase in cases can indeed be explained by more testing, that’s far from the whole story. Look no further than the test-positive rate to understand why. The national rate has climbed more than a percentage point over the past two weeks, reaching 6.3 percent. That average obscures far higher test positive rates in states with some of the worst-controlled outbreaks:

This means a growing number of Americans being tested have the virus — and health officials aren’t keeping up with the rising demand for testing, nor are they keeping on top of outbreaks.
Covid-19 hospitalizations are also rising again, following a sharp drop through August and early September. Over the past month, the number of US patients in hospitals with the disease increased by more than 50 percent.”

Thanks for the report! Yes- this is what was predicted months ago so no surprise really. We don’t have a lot to go on as far as predicting but when looking at the last huge killer flu – the Spanish Flu Second Wave- it is intelligent to be concerned. I am expecting full lockdown in a few weeks. Glad I live here!

What are you doing to get prepared? Frankly, in a country where people assault clerks for forgetting to put catsup in the fast food order and are no longer horrified to children dying in crossfire between gangs, it wasn’t going to be anything other than what it already is. Chaotic and wearing.

But on a more cheerful note, it may be like the subsequent waves of flu in 1918. People who got sick in the first waves got sick again but were much less likely to die in subsequent waves.

How can we be expected to contain this virus when we still have both international and domestic flights still occurring in the U.S.? If this is so serious, why aren’t state borders restricted to commercial traffic only? We’re 8-9 months in. Is this an issue or not? I don’t mind, “I don’t know.” How about some intellectual transparency?

Just in case someone hasn’t connected the dots, yesterday both the world and the US hit milestones in the covid fight. Not good milestones. The world hit 544,000, and the US hit almost 100,000. The virus is out of control and here is what the US is doing under the misleadership of trump.

The report; coronavirus.house.gov/sites/democrats.coronavirus.house.gov/files/InterimStaffReport10.30.20.pdf
From the article;
https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/10/30/covid-19-infections-skyrocket-house-report-slams-trumps-pandemic-response-among

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis on Friday denounced President Donald Trump’s disastrous response to the pandemic, describing it as one of the “worst failures of leadership” in the country’s history…… entitled Inefficient, Ineffective, and Inequitable, the panel detailed how the Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus crisis has caused a public health catastrophe, failed to alleviate the ongoing economic hardships endured by millions of U.S. households, and prioritized Wall Street recovery over Main Street relief.

“The virus is a global scourge,” said the report, “but it has been an American fiasco, killing more people in the U.S. than in any other country.”

“The Trump administration’s response to the coronavirus crisis has been a tragic failure.”

In addition, the report noted that the White House failed to protect millions of economically distressed households experiencing material deprivation and financial freefall.

Instead of extending enhanced unemployment insurance benefits and providing housing relief, for instance, the Trump aministration “exacerbated and extended an economic collapse of historic proportions, with tens of millions of Americans losing their jobs and at least six million Americans falling into poverty.”

To the extent that the Trump administration did respond to the economic crisis, the report noted that it intervened in ways that “benefited larger companies and wealthy Americans, while leaving behind many disadvantaged communities and struggling small businesses.”

Trump is definitely responsible for the spread of COVID-19, other countries have handled it much better. Now that it has proven unstoppable, he is to blame, too funny. I never blamed Obama for anything, except for getting health insurance canceled, but that’s ok, if it got a freeloader good health insurance I’m ok with it.

Commie Chinese spread the virus. Commie Chinese were blocked by Trump, Biden and Pelosi called him racist, said he should not stop travel from China. Seen a trump rally? Thousands and thousands of people chanting “we love you, we love you!” The pig governor of Minnesota said only 250 could show up at his rally there, 25 thousand showed up! At a Biden speech, maybe a couple hundred show up, and the idiot kamala is lucky to get 50 people. Biden and Kamala would want to take our guns, we would not let them, so easy to stop anyone from taking them, stop the oil industry, ruin our economy, and hurt so many people. Vote trump, vote freedom, vote prosperity.

Yes indeed. Obama rarely got blamed for anything in the press even those things he was responsible for directly. However Trump was blamed for everything, even things that did not ever happen, before he was sworn in. There is a peculiar mindset among those who really think that blaming is the name of the game. They hate Trump for blaming others while thoroughly out Trumping Trump at it.

Trumps admisnistation is responsible for the corona response or therefor lack of, but if you blame him for not shutting the country down then you cannot simultaneously blame him for the failing economy. It’s an oxymoron. The only positove thing I foresee about Biden getting elected is the pandemic will wane. Wane- have a progressively smaller part of its visible surface illuminated so that it appears to decrease in size.

I completely agree. I said this same thing about Hillary, before trump was elected it was the same three families in charge of this country for what, 7 terms? That’s 28 years? I consider Biden to be part of the same “family” even though his name is different. At this point if you want Biden why not just go ahead and “elect” a king. People that say trumps a dictator don’t take the time to thing that the system has been run by the same people for a long, long time now and it’s not by mistake. I’d sooner elect a dancing monkey than the same people again and again with the same results. You support BLM? Elect someone who isn’t part of this system, you want less separation between the classes? Once again a dancing monkey will more likely achieve that goal than the Same dude that hasn’t done it his entire career. But alas, as some old dude who wrote books one time said, “if voting mattered they wouldn’t let us do it”

Term limits in California are bad news for rural areas. Before limits a representative from a rural district if he or she did a good job and were re elected they built seniority and had a chance to influence outcomes through committee membership and leadership roles, Now its all about cities and suburbs.

People who believe that it takes more than two terms to be ineffective at best and crooked at worst should contemplate the idea a politician who knows he is out in 6 to 8 years will spend his time taking what he can immediately and spend his time in office pleasing those who will provide for him shortly when he’s termed out? There are no magic bullets to fix a poor set of principles or morals. It’s better to have a politician who likes the perks of the office and is at least going to face the voters many times than to have lobbyists or the office staff in Congress running things because a new Congressman hasn’t even learned yet where the toilets are.

Term limits remove choice, making the voters less and less important.

Trump’s responsible for Europe’s skyrocketing infection rate? Or our southern border porosity? Or California and Humboldt Co calling themselves sanctuary places where illegals are protected? Or the state of pot? Or the riots in liberal run cities? Or the prisons opening their doors to protect the prisoners from the disease that requires lockdowns to prevent (oh the irony.) or the wildfires that have run rampant in out State since beforeTrump was elected? Or the failure to create enough doctors while having more lawyers per capita than any other place in the world?

Trump got Cuomo his damned ventilators, kept desperately wanted American made PPE from being shiped overseas. He arranged for field hospitals, emergency declarations for wildfires, for Europeans to increase their share of payments for NATO. Increased employment. On the other hand, his opponents had their accomplishments too- they protested, rioted and looted, tore down statues, complained about everything for the Rose Garden to Trump’s xenophobia that never existed.

Stop the spread. Not happening here. From the article;

https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Stanford-study-Trump-rallies-deaths-super-spreader-15691006.php?IPID=SFGate-HP-CP-Spotlight

“Researchers at Stanford University believe President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign rallies — which are not socially distanced and mask wearing is sporadic — are responsible for 30,000 COVID-19 cases and 700 deaths across the country.

In a paper published Saturday, the four researchers examine infection patterns in 18 separate counties before and after they hosted Trump rallies between June 20 and Sept. 22. The researchers conclude the rallies “ultimately resulted in more than 30,000 incremental confirmed cases of COVID-19” and “likely led to more than 700 deaths.”

To isolate the impact of the rallies, the researchers monitored the trends in counties that did not host rallies that were on “similar trajectories” to the 18 rally counties. They found a clear link between rallies and increased community spread of the virus.”

Broad testing and masking of the healthy!!

It’s asanine.

I know it’s like talking to brick walls-

BUT

IF there are these untold millions of “asymptomatic” individuals, and of course the increasing number of “positive cases” (notice there is no differentiation between actively Ill and simply “positive” by somewhat unreliable testing) do the math.

Just do it.

The actual death rate, (when you factor in the fear/reality everyone is potentially carrying it and all the bogus positives ) is significantly lower! Like way lower.

Like no need to mask and test and lock down our country lower.

Like wake the fuck up lower.

Correct, we just dropped under the 1% percent fatality rate mark, but some people have gone into full lock down stage , too funny. You would think if people follow science so close , they could also do math. Apparently not.

All they care about is what the left feeds them. Scary really. Democratic party has very few FREE THINKERS they are like sheep. Its sad the media as fake and left Biased as it is has so much control.
Crazy to think people are so dumb to beleive the crap when a little research and fact checking would open so many eyes.

Slovakia just did mass testing of half of its population of 5 million . The reports are that about 1% tested as positive for the virus at that time. The idea was that everyone who tested positive or didn’t take a test were to be quarantined. A repeat mass testing will supposedly take place in another two weeks. This was done with the intention of avoiding a total lockdown of the whole country. Turns out that more people would be quarantined under this procedure than not as half would be quarantined because they did not take the test plus the one percent would did test positive. Then there is the little niggle of the people who have the infection but not currently at a high enough level or location for the test to catch them.

It’s like watching a fly repeatedly bang into a window. The fly sees its way clear to getting where it wants to go. But after several attempts and smacking its head into what it can’t see, it moves over to try at a new place. Usually another place on the same window and repeats its activity. Why so many dead flies end up on window sills. Still enough find their way that flies are in no danger of extinction.

Lockdowns are like that- it’s a path to reduced infections but not to eliminating the infections. So, although head smacking is hard on the body, the temptation to repeat is overwhelming as it offers a way forward. Sooner or later some will succeed in getting to where they want to go.

Another article indicated that the level of fatality of covid-19 is in our own genes.
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2020/nov/01/covids-effect-on-health-blamed-on-tiny-genetic-variations Maybe this is the window glass that we keep trying to break through. That who you are is most important. The infection can be reduced to negligible levels but to keep it that way, the lockdown must be followed by the strictest border controls and continual vigilance indefinitely bcause the same vulnerable individuals will be there to be infected as soon as the guard drops. Grabbing the tiger by the tail means never letting go.

Just another billionaire who might realize late in life that there is something more important than selling out the hard working tax payers for foreign goods and services that could be here.

The pathology of his detractors is that of corruption personified.

If there was an analogy, it might be the infection in your left foot that Dr Fauci and his ilk, say will require amputation of both feet and hands, making sure that you are life long ward of the state.

Trumps Doctor will quickly give you zpak and antibiotics so you can get back to making this country work for you and your family.

We are not a racist country, but Obama taught us that your race is irrelevant to doing business with the Chinese.

I’d like to meet Obamas investment team.

3.2 million over 8 years was invested in some good stuff.
