MET Visits Four Parcels and Finds 12,857 Plants, Over 1,828 Pounds of Bud and Over 127 Pounds of Shake, Says HCSO

Greenhouses by HCSOPress release from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:

On Oct. 27, 2020, deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) served one search warrant in the Eureka and Larabee Valley areas to assist the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Cal-Cannabis with an investigation into illegal cannabis cultivation. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife, CDFA Cal-Cannabis, Humboldt County Code Enforcement and the Humboldt County Environmental Health and HazMat Team assisted in the service of the warrant.

Four parcels were investigated during the service of the warrant. The parcels did not possess the required state license to cultivate cannabis commercially.

During the service of the warrant, deputies eradicated approximately 12,857 growing cannabis plants. Deputies seized and destroyed over 1,828 pounds of cannabis bud and over 127 pounds of cannabis shake.

Assisting agencies found the following violations:

  • Water diversion violations (up to $8,000 fine per day, per violation)
  • Water pollution violations (up to $20,000 fine per day, per violation)
  • Depositing trash in or near a waterway violations (up to $20,000 fine per day, per violation)

Additional violations with civil fines are expected to be filed by the assisting agencies.

No arrests were made during the service of the warrant. The case will be forwarded to the DA’s Office for review.

Anyone with information about this case or related criminal activity is encouraged to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip line at (707) 268-2539.

Not really. Unless you have a state license you aren’t legal. Period. End sentence. I don’t mind outdoor but this “greenhouse” bullshit is exactly that. Hoops are already relit around our property, double transfer loads coming in with new mixes. Their on their fourth run and have a “receipt from the county”. How much value has your property lost. We’ve been appraised 300k less. And so yes, this does affect us negatively from these “quasi-legal” grows. We are putting down the loss on our property and will keep doing so. If you wonder how that’s done, get a business license associated with your property. Oh and here’s a good kicker we’ve been told to start a daycare/youth science center on the property. As long as they have temporary permits and not a CA state license, once they apply for the actual license they will be denied because its within 600ft of a daycare. Shouldn’t have constructed all those greenhouses and flipped off the neighbor by saying ” it’s legal” – which my neighbor did to me.

Properties have lost value because the greenrush is over, not because your neighbor grows cannabis.

Neighbors property was 1/2 the value of ours when we purchased. Same size lot, same size house, same zone. We actually have many more barns and shops. Our property is now valued only a 30% higher than the neighbors. With our investment in it. No one wants a house, they just want land. Has nothing to do with greenrush. And if they do want a house, they don’t want it surrounded by greenhouses within 100′ of each parcel line. So yes, value has dropped, and it’s not because of greenrush subsiding. It’s because no one wants to buy a home surrounded by hoops, rvs, drum and bass, randoms, lights all night. And if they do, they want the cheapest home because that’s not their priority.

Look at property values before and after the greenrush. Property values have been massively bloated and will drop even further. This is a good thing for locals as their taxes will go down as well. It’s only a bad thing for people who want to sell. If you wanted to sell, two years ago was the time to make a move. If you still wanna sell do it now before land values go down further. Good luck!

Called a real estate firm from here in Humboldt and was told my property is worth $150k without a permit. Well below what we paid. I’m def getting it appraised and getting my taxes lowered.

Hmm, real estate is booming in Hayfork for houses in town, the pines or anything else. Perhaps the days of crying about property values are almost over?

First the growaholics crashed the price which affected everybody’s bottom line. Then the same crew of greed heads went legit and ponied up tens of thousands per parcel to lock in their right to grow legally and run the small growers out of business which has destroyed the local economy and real estate market. Much harder to recover from that when your only asset has been devalued. For 30 years we looked the other way. “Don’t shit where you live.“ For 30 years we not only ignored that, we embraced it We legitimized all the greed and destruction and have nothing to show for it but a big bowl of frog soup.

Is your property value less because you’re NOT cultivating Cannabis?

The only properties holding or adding value are permitted to grow cannabis.

I do believe john ford said you can have a ag exempt greenhouse with your personal plants in it. John ford is the cannabis director .if you have a hoop and they fly over it would be legal….as long as your hoop is under 5k sq foot is does not need a condition use permit

That information is not correct. The square footage allotment is 200 sq ft. Not 5000 sq ft.
And the permit for a greenhouse OR hoop house is not a conditional use permit. It is an AG exempt permit.
Special use and conditional use permits cover the use of the land parcel , not the structures.

[edit] u need a conditional use permit for over 5ooo sq foot …and a ag permit gets you as many greenhouses as you want. As long as you sign a letter of intent …go down to the building department and get u one ive quite a few…..so tell me that is not correct

Any issues permitting a greenhouse? Did they ask about the other structures or anything?

I have a 10K and it did not require a special use or conditional use permit and on my land I t never will. Zoning clearance certificate trumps both of those permits. Zoning clearance, special use and conditional use refer to the Permitted use of the land. Nothing to do with the structures. And With AG exempt permits you pay the fee per structure regardless of the square footage and regardless if it is used for cannabis or other agricultural uses

You are somewhat right. Its only AG exempt if you live on AG zoned land. And at that point, no one is searching your hoops looking for weed on AG land, they don’t care from personal experience.

Its hard to believe the term shake is still used. That was a 60s term that originated from buying unprocessed Mexican weed with outer leaf intact. You would shake the bag as hard as you could so some of the outer leaves would fall off. At least thats how I first heard it used.

I can’t believe people pay money for it. Back in my day that was part of the green material for our dirt or you’d have to bury it. Now it moves faster than bud, lol

Looks like people are just clear cutting area’s and slapping up hoop houses and going for it and if them #s match for the first grow 13,000÷1,800=7.1 per plant over a half lb per plant looks like he’s doing ok or was doing ok

I think you did your math wrong 1800#’s divided by 13k plants only equals 2 1/4 oz per plant…. pretty sad….

Huh? The plants were still in the dirt. The bud was separate from the growing plants. No calculation can be made.

No no the cops harvest the plants, dry and trim them and then they weigh it to know how much they confiscated. Common practice

I think he was kidding. They run them through a chipper. That’s why there is always a plant count on the raided material and not a weight.
