Humboldt County Probation Department Seeks Proposals for Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Services

Probation badge Humboldt County, CaliforniaPress release from the Humboldt County Probation Department:

With the goal of making a difference for North Coast youth, the Humboldt County Probation Department is pleased to announce a Request For Proposal (RFP) for community based organizations to provide juvenile delinquency prevention services. The Humboldt County Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Grant is up to $150,000 over a 2-year, six-month period beginning January 1, 2021.

The Juvenile Justice Crime Prevention Act (JJCPA) was created by the Crime Prevention Act of 2000 and provides funding for local juvenile programs aimed at curbing crime and delinquency among at risk youth. Juvenile diversion is an intervention strategy that redirects youths away from formal processing in the juvenile system, but are still held accountable for their actions.

In Humboldt County, local officials and stakeholders determine where to direct resources through an interagency planning process guided by the Multi Agency Juvenile Coordinating Counsel (MAJJCC). Earlier this year, the committee reviewed and updated its annual plan to have funds released to community-based organizations to provide juvenile delinquency prevention services. This RFP is meant to solicit proposals from qualified organizations to provide those services.

Submitted applications should focus on factors of resiliency to encourage improved outcomes for youth. The deadline for proposals is November 13 at 5:00 PM and the RFP can be found on the county’s website.

Inquiries regarding the RFP may be made to the Humboldt County Probation Department, 2002 Harrison Avenue, Eureka CA, 95501, or by phone at 707-445-7401.

Think about Andrew Yang’s money for all low income families. Maybe, instead of playing catch up @ juvenile offenders, the money could help struggling families become more stable, thereby making the youngsters less likely to go off track? Society needs a makeover, that’s an undeniable reality. Instability is a major factor in children falling out of step. I’ve always heard that poor, but stable, is a way better plan than poor& unstable. Congregate living,(after the pandemic), could maybe be considered as a more stable lifestyle for lower income residents. Small houses around a group kitchen, bath house& laundry facilities, & a garden? A co-housing community of single parents, mixed with old& young helping each other? What we have now isn’t working!
