About 10:45 a.m., emergency personnel were sent to the homeless encampment near the Sprowel Creek exit in Garberville for a 32-year-old woman in childbirth.

Our best wishes for the new mom and the baby.

UPDATE 2:48 p.m.: Some folks, led by Michelle Bushnell at the SoHum Chamber, are donating to help give this new little life a warm start. If you would like to donate, reach out to Michelle at the Boot Leg in Garberville, (707) 923-2002.

UPDATE 3:26 p.m.: Please hold donations until the situation is resolved. The young mother is currently working out what is going to happen.

Sending so many blessings to mama and baby!!! I have a basket of supplies, clothes, diapers, a carrier, car seat & other needed items for mama and baby that I’d love to get to them. If anyone knows the mother Please have her or a friend send me an email [email protected] so I can get this to her right away. Thank you 🙏

It does make me stop and wonder, how many children have been born along the river? A lot a whole lot. With many more to come.

This new idea of hospitals being birthing factories … doesn’t follow the time honored traditions. A strong baby might catch a bad virus in there. The mother could never leave.

Maybe, but in my family and my husband’s family, there are a number of great-great grandmothers (and one mother/grandmother) who died in childbirth at home, on the river, wherever. The “new idea” of hospitals ain’t all that bad, if you are the one giving birth.

Best wishes to the mother and new baby. Hopes for them to find a warm home for the winter.

Really? You know no information about this situation but you throw that garbage out there about a new precious life?
My mother told me if you don’t have anything nice to say, keep your mouth shut!
You should practice that. Oh yeah, just because a person doesn’t have a roof over their head doesn’t make them an addict.
You need to help your brothers and sisters in your community not spread false information about a situation you know nothing about.

Excuse me I know the Garberville homeless situation very well. Most are Not capable of being Mamas. Hoping baby can stay with mom and get housing!
