Two Charged With Trafficking Heroin After Traffic Stop in SoHum

This is a press release from the Humboldt County Drug Task Force. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:

Michael Wade

Michael Wade

On October 15th, 2020, special agents with the Humboldt County Drug Task Force (HCDTF) made a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 101 at the south end of Benbow Dr. in southern Humboldt. Agents had a signed search warrant for both occupants of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, Michael Wade (27 years old from Rio Dell), and his passenger, Josie Craig (27 years old from Garberville), have been under investigation by HCDTF for several weeks for trafficking heroin from southern California into Humboldt County. Agents were also aware that Wade had two felony warrants for his arrest.

Josie Craig

Josie Craig

When agents attempted contact Wade ran from the vehicle down a short embankment. Wade then realized he was surrounded and he stopped and was taken into custody without incident. Craig was detained at the vehicle.

Agents searched the vehicle and located a digital scale as well as pay/owe sheets. Agents advised Craig they had information that she was concealing drugs on her person. Craig admitted to agents that she had hidden heroin in her body cavities. A female State Parks Ranger arrived on scene and stood by with Craig while Craig removed the evidence from her body. Agents took possession of approx. two ounces of heroin.

Wade had been driving the vehicle and was showing objective signs of being under the influence of heroin. CHP-Garberville Officers were requested to respond to the scene for a DUI evaluation. CHP Officers conducted a DUI investigation which led to Wade’s arrest for driving under the influence of drugs.

Wade was transported to the Humboldt County Jail where he was booked for his felony warrants as well as the following charges:

    • H&S 11379(b) Transportation of heroin across non-contiguous counties
    • VC 23152(f) Driving under the influence of drugs

The following charge will be requested for Craig:

    • H&S 11379(b) Transportation of heroin across non-contiguous counties

HCDTF would like to thank the California Highway Patrol and State Parks for their assistance with this investigation. Anyone with information related to this investigation or other narcotics related crimes are encouraged to call the Humboldt County Drug Task Force at 707-267-9976.Heroin

Not for two ounces, especially given some of the releases they’ve made recently involving pounds. Seems odd to me they travelled to So. California for only two ounces; what’s that, like $40 now?

The maximum weight capacity of the STAA size trucks is 80,000 lbs. 300K can’t be correct.

🕯🌳I haven’t seen the light in a since I still will argue the fact that most of what’s up here is made up here. They will tell you that was a desperation load or a distraction. And it wasn’t at the boarder it was at someone’s warehouse in medical supplies.

Here, even tho cbs sucks: https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/largest-meth-bust-in-dea-history-made-in-california/

2 diff seizures…. with ties to the Sinaloa cartel. One in riverside and one at the border. Yes, sadly over 5k lbs of meth only worth 500k in cash in LA.

And on that note – Recall Newsom! He’s such a greasy skeez that has made too
much money off grapes and migrants aka slave labor. Why not employ all the local tweakers?

Hey Willie since you have seen the light, check out the drones that the cartel is strapping c4 to. Neat

Federal authorities on Wednesday showed off results of Southern California raids early this month that led to the biggest domestic seizure of methamphetamine in U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration history. The 2,224 pounds of meth was seized Oct.. 2 during an investigation of a drug-trafficking organization.

Why did they not take Craig in under probable cause and let her undress in front of 2 women LE officers in a room? This sounds ghoulish.

Hey Kym! I noticed that you did not capitalize the ‘S’ in “southern Humboldt”. So this time the (area of the bust) is considered a sub-region of Hum Co, rather than the Southern Humboldt community/ region. Right?
What’s your criteria for deciding to capitalize the first letter of ‘southern’???
