A motorized bicycle was struck by a black Ford on West 14th between Summer and Pine Streets about 2:05 p.m.

The vehicle was traveling east on West 14th and struck the motorized bicycle. The bicyclist left the scene. But he was tracked down and eventually was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

UPDATE 4 p.m.: According to Eureka Police Department spokesperson Brittany Powell, “The incident was called in to us just after 2 p.m. and was reported as a vehicle vs bicyclist. The bicyclist left on foot and was located at a residence at the 1600 block of Summer Street. The bicyclist was transported to the hospital with moderate injury. Preliminary investigation appears the bicyclist was at fault for the collision. DUI does not appear to be a factor.”

The bicyclist was very likely at fault blowing thru the stop sign intersection never caring if a car was coming. Fortuna has these creeps doing the same irresponsible behavior on their motor driven bikes. Law states no faster than 25mph and a helmet required at all times.

Then again -just maybe………..the car didn’t see the creep and made contact.

Why call him a creep? Because he has a motorized bicycle? I have one. Way to generalize buddy

I never would have seen this coming. You mean to tel me that the GMOBs that cut in and out of traffic on a rig that should have a license plate are getting hit by other vehicles. Wow. Now I been learnt a thing or two but this one is a real surprise.

Was behind an EPD car when a guy on a skateboard ran a stop sign and was almost hit by the cop car. Skateboard guy never looked back and the EPD office just kept going and didn,t look back either.

If the CHP and EPD enforced even half the traffic violations and things like noise ordinance, and pollution device removal on vehicles, we’d have so much money flowing in we could eliminate property taxes and most sales taxes.

Seriously, there are SO many obvious violations that aren’t ticketed that it’s ridiculous. Why have a law on the books if no one is going to enforce it?

Preach on brother Cy. Sounds good… I’d like to see at least 10 cars come to a full stop at a stop sign, or red light crosswalk behind the lines in one day… I’ve tried counting but got bored not seeing any in Eureka.

For this, eight public servants need us to pay them about $30/hr to stand around all afternoon and surmise the scene. Later, we’ll be told that we need to pay more because there aren’t enough people ready to stand around like this.

Let’s mention how most of the pilots of those crank fueled motor bikes are flying at about 26,000 feet when they’re at the helm….
