Early Morning Marijuana Robbery North of Laytonville; Resident Suspects Thieves Using Drones to Case Cannabis Properties

Early this morning at least one armed individual crept onto on a rural cannabis farm 7 miles north of Laytonville west of Highway 101 and stole non-processed cannabis. According to an unnamed resident of the area, this is the fourth robbery of the season with a similar modus operandi in which thieves are using “drones to scope gardens, and stealthily coming in on foot to take what they can carry.”

The resident told us that locals believe a group of 2-3 individuals has been in the area since July surveilling cannabis farms using drones and sleeping overnight in multiple camp spots. “They strike when no one is around,” the resident told us.

The resident said the thieves “fill bags as full as they can carry (about 30 lbs wet weight each) and they hike out.” The resident presumes the robbers are hiking out the stolen marijuana to Highway101 where a vehicle is picking them up.

The resident actually “tracked” these robbers across their property in July where they spent the night “en route to their next ripoff.” Evidence of their presence included empty water and soda bottles, empty boxes of .223 ammunition, toilet paper, and human feces.

Some of the items found after what is believed to have been an earlier incursion onto private property.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patton told us the agency has not been informed of these occurrences. Previous statements from MCSO encourage cannabis growers, legal or illegal, to contact law enforcement if they are victims of theft or any other crimes.

Put the human feces in a bag, find the suspected perp and request they submit a stool sample and then compare the two. Duh!

Exactly what I was thinking. Oh, it’s just .223 so I can take a hit if surprised then it’s my turn, lol. They like them pretty weapons.

If memory serves, 5.56 NATO/223 Rem. are military and civilian versions of each other. Some guns shoot both, some only .223. READ your gun manual. Typical AR-15 format vs. AR-10 based on 7.62 NATO/308 Win. it’s counter-intuitive. Check my geezer memory. Some very fine people own these guns, some are not so fine. The cartridges mentioned are of great utility and are perfect in rural situations where illegal rip-offs roam, hunting is viable, self-reliance is paramount. No surprise to find such ammo in the country.

I sometimes receive catalogs from Georgia-based mail-order outfits that offer a 12-gauge shotgun cartridge that fires a net at drones. A regular load of birdshot could do it as well.

How do they know that back pack setup only weighs 30lb?

And if that is the case, considering dry saleable herb is between 6-7Xs lighter than wet, that dim bulb is literally risking getting shot , or facing taking the life of someone else – considering he’s armed- for a bundle of squashed herb! Cannabis that he still has to dry and clean , which will yield less than 5# , of flattened, abused, bad-karma bud. Stupid.

Ya thieves aren’t the brightest bulbs. Someone stole some of my arcata back yard grow a couple years ago. They snuck in, cut about 4 whole plants out (why not take all the tops?!) that were at least a week early and probably ended up with about 4 oz, assuming they dried and cleaned it up effectively.

I was pissed but also saddened by the presence of such immense dumb assery in the neighborhood

If they took it straight to a drying shed, spread it out, hung it, cured it, trimmed it and sold it, they could end up with anywhere between $3 to 10 thousand dollars. That is a great payday for skulking around for a few hours at night. Tweaks rob gas stations and break into homes for a lot less than that. Very disturbing that they bring a weapon. That takes this to a whole new level in my book, not the firearm, just the fact that they are willing to shoot someone for money.

🕯🌳They can’t dust for prints because there not reporting it and the crime isn’t important enough for DNA. Use there own technology against them start survivalist of your own property with drones and find them. People have been trying to sell these types of services to growers up here for a couple of years to advanced for them now its being used against them. 🖖

If ya see a drone they only have 20 mins flight time so they are close. When you smell shit just unload a clip. If ya think you might not of smelt it at first guaranteed you will then.

Why can’t the prints be lifted from from the water and soda bottles pictured in the article above??
Seems pretty simple unless these “light bulbs” are truly brighter than we think.

Last October 15th 3 heavily armed thieves used same guns. But with white dodge truck and brown trailer loaded out 300 lbs of bud at 2 am. They’re on film no one thank god around. This happened in eastern trinity county on a legal grow. The sheriff has the surveillance and information. Nothing was ever done.

If they’re sophisticated enough to use drones, I wonder if that isn’t a thermal optic on his AR. Looks kinda chunky, though the picture quality may be distorting it.

Thieves are vermin. Parasites. Use whatever methods available to control infestation. I am not promoting or extolling violence, but use carefull humanitarian second ammendment type rights to defend your property, family and just about everyone else from people who steal. Anything, anywhere, anytime. Use good common sense. Protect yourself. It is your right.

That appears to be a semi automatic rifle. One would guess an ar15 which aligns with the empty ammo package.

Who loads their magazine in the woods though, unless they’re reloading while target shooting? Weird stuff.

Keep shotguns on hand with bird shot and if you see one of the drone scoping the garden, take it out. I’m sure police would love the footage of the drone taking off (filming the perps in the process)

I think by now most Humboldt growers are well aware of the dangers of growing a crop that others want. Simply by putting in a garden, you make yourself a target. If not by the rip-offs, the government has now stepped in to rip you off by imposing their permits. Just think, if they defund the police , you can have a social worker not investigate the crimes. Sorry, but if you grow, you create your own problem, being able to defend your decisions is up to you. [edit]

Mexican coke, the stuff with real cane sugar, comes in glass bottles. The taste difference is night and day. This is more likely some ignorant-ass racist[edit] trying to frame Hispanics.

I illegally grew weed for more than 27 years continuously. In that time my greatest challenge to success was rip-offs. I hate ’em.

Time after time, my neighbors’ teenaged sons stole from me. They’re (several) still alive because I valued their lives more than my own success.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

This article fails to say anything about “legal” or actual cannabis cultivators. So I laugh because of course, it’s “legalites” crying into their elbow. Who cares? Insurance anyone?

Please “legalites” grow in the same location again so the rip-offs don’t need to strain.

Game cams. HANGING Door handle alarms, screwed on to trees with fishing line to sound off the door alarm. Any kind of alarm keeps thieves running when they hear the sound battery operated driveway monitors work well to notify you someone is walking up. Lets not forget a couple good watch dogs, an alert dog like a chihuahua, and some bite like a rotty , german sheperd or pitbull. Dont get surprised, stay alert. It is harvest time, Community watch and road associations can be a great help to maintain road security, reach out to your neighbors and devise a plan.

As always, victims need to timely report rip-offs to local law enforcement. We’re reviewing a report as we speak involving a car stop with out-of-towners where many pounds of what appears to be black market marijuana was located. There was also a drone found in the backseat. Tough to connect the dots if all the dots have not been timely reported to law enforcement. Be safe out there!
