Rainbow in heavy rain

Good news for the smoke covered, charred areas of northwestern California that have been battered by record-breaking fires this summer. Rain could be coming as early as Wednesday. (Admittedly, it isn’t predicted to be a lot of rain. And the highest amounts aren’t likely to be over most of the fires, but still… .)

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka,

Rain is forecast for the latter portion of the week and over the weekend. The period of highest rainfall appears to be centered on Saturday and Saturday night. These charts, based on 3 separate ensemble forecast systems, indicate low chances on Wednesday increasing through Saturday. Looking at the chart for Gasquet and vicinity, there is a 63% chance of more than 0.01 of an inch of rain from 5PM Friday to 5PM Saturday. During that same 24 hour period, there is about a 58% chance of more than 0.10in, 54% chance of more than 0.25in, 48% chance of more than 0.50in and a 26% chance of more than 1 inch. The highest probabilities are over Del Norte and Northern Humboldt Counties, and tapper off farther south and east. Stay tuned to our forecast for the latest updates.

Not enough rain for mud slides, yet. But soon enough there will be mud, lots of mud.

Fascinating, no doubt, but this a northwestern Cali site.

Apparently you chose not to look at the site. Storms that come off the Pacific and head into Tahoe happen to come right through here.

I have used open snow site for last 10 years because they do an excellent job of predicting beyond the 7 day window. I ski, yes, but the storms that hit Tahoe also happen to pass directly through this area. They are the only site I have found that combines all the different models, ocean conditions, etc to try and predict beyond the 7 day window and are very thorough,. I highly suggest this site to any weather nerds, skiers, farmers, etc.
