August Complex: In the North, Fire Pushing Towards Zenia and Also Towards Bear Wallow, In the South, Another Critical Fire Danger Day

The fire came up out of the Grizzly Mountain area above Zenia and moved about 100 acres into Cal Fire’s West Zone. Cal Fire said in a statement this morning that there were “spot fires and a significant fire run resulted in fire across containment lines.”
According to the US Forest Service’s Alaska Incident Management Team’s Operations Section Chief Karen Scholl, “We can expect fire growth” in that area over the next few days.
Cal Fire, which is attacking the advancing flame, explained, “Today in the Humboldt Operational Sector, crews will continue work towards controlling the slop-over, provide structure defense around Zenia, build contingency lines, and hold existing fire lines.”
Meanwhile, the fire is also growing to the north where it crossed Hwy 36. The Forest Service is working on structure preparation along Hwy 36 and and north up to the Rowdy Bear area.
There was also some fire activity into the area where the Picket Fire scar is located and above Journey’s End, Scholl said.
The good news is that firefighters are basically guiding the eastern flank of the fire into following their plans. Scholl said there has been no adverse growth towards the multiple homes in the Post Mountain area.
As a whole, the southern part of the fire is holding and much is being mopped up even though firefighters are facing Red Flag Warning conditions again today.
Alaska Incident Management Team’s Operations Section Chief Karen Scholl pointed out, “The thing that is really going to help us the most is a change in the weather and we’re really not anticipating that for at least another week to ten days. We can expect fire growth mostly in the south southwest we can expect fire growth to the north… .”

According to the Alaska Management Team,
Hot and dry conditions prevail again today, with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees at lower elevations. Light winds from the northwest are forecast with potential to increase in the afternoon. Dense smoke persists, particularly in the deeper valleys. While smoke provides shade and moderates fire behavior, it also inhibits aircraft operations.

- Evacuees are encouraged to proceed Hayfork Fairgrounds where a temporary evacuation point has been established. This is not a shelter location, it is a point where evacuees can pick up hotel vouchers and proceed to hotels that have been procured in Lewiston and Weaverville. The previous temporary evacuation point in Humboldt County is no longer in service.

I agree with Kym that Agenda 21 is a far-fetched conspiracy theory and that “Guest” should not be concerned. However, I would like to point out that the Southern Poverty Law Center she referred to in the link above is a leftist organization that has self-assumed the mantle of determining what and what not are hate groups. Although it began as an impartial organization with altruistic goals combating racism, it has since morphed into a tool for the left and cannot be fully trusted anymore. Kym I was informed tonight that the Hayfork fairgrounds were closed to the public today by a resident that has regular use of the facility and lives near by it.
If this is true and the Humboldt facility’s are no longer open, well this would bring even more difficulties to those that are currently going through a major hardship. I just don’t see people from say Kettenpom or Hettenshaw having the wherewithal to commute clear over to Covalo, or Latonville with all their pets and livestock. Ferndale has been the go to for these situations for as long as I can remember. What has changed?
