Press release from the California Highway Patrol:

On 09/30/2020 at approximately 5:30 AM, the Humboldt Area CHP received a request from the Eureka Police Department (EPD) to assist in locating a tan Jeep Cherokee for a welfare check on the driver, Timothy McTague, Sr. At approximately 7:10 AM, the vehicle was located at the scene of a collision in the driveway of a residence on Herrick Ave., east of Pinecrest Ct. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and determined that Mr. McTague had suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The Humboldt County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and subsequently notified next of kin.

A preliminary investigation by CHP has revealed that Mr. McTague was driving his Jeep Cherokee east on Herrick Ave., east of Pinecrest Ct. at a high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, Mr. McTague allowed the Jeep to travel off the south roadway edge and into the driveway of 320 Herrick Ave., where it collided with a parked Dodge Ram pickup and a trailer. The force of the impact pushed the trailer through a fence and partially into the backyard of the residence.

The CHP Humboldt Area Office is continuing to investigate this collision and asks anyone who may have information to contact the office at 707-822-5981 or send an email to [email protected].

We drove by there when all of the CHP & Eureka PD was taking care of the scene. Looked pretty bad and then on the way home a hour or so later, seen the pickup and the other vehicle. So very sad for the driver and the residents of the home.

There are a lot of people that speed on that road. CHP should randomly set up speed trap and catch a few. Then the word will get out that you will eventfully get caught if you speed.

Wow mods, you deleted my comment for telling them to “f**k off” for being political when someone died and you delete it, yet their username and comment that also has the same word is fine? Really showing your political bias

Didn’t realize you were the only mod, apologies Kym. I didn’t think telling someone to F off was insulting them, but I do think calling someone “a piece of shit” is. Should their comment not be deleted?

Sorry for your loss, family of the departed.

No that won’t ‘Fuck Eureka’, but voting democratic this year will. Every vote for a 3rd-4th party takes one away from the top two parties… Please factor that into any decision to vote this year. Please don’t vote Republican or 3rd-4th party this year. Never has it ment so much.

Chas, I agree with you 100% about his political BS. This article about the driver that was killed is no place for his comment. Thank you for letting him know.

So very sorry for the loss of life and pain of loved ones.
Speeding goes unattended while citizens demand cops focus on unsheltered and needles etc. Speeding is something that police can do something about but don’t. H Street is a raceway most weekends and during commute hours and I can be too. Certainly location in article is a known area for speeding.
